It is basically useless. It reduces the weight of your armor and it is expensive as hell to maintain.
Get Endo Steel first and basically forget about FF.

You may have to click off and back on to your mech to see the changes.

It is more useful for Lights who have the crit room and need to eke our more tonnage.

It shows up as floating dynamic structural slots and that is it. You will only notice some weight being freed up.

Be sure you left enough free Crit Slots to equip it. If you didn't, the game removes the Ferro even though you bought it. It will put it back I believe if you free up the necessary slots.

You will have to save the changes and load it for editing to see the changes applied. Its the least effective way to free up ton/gain armor.. but it does work. Most useful on light designs and almost worthless or worse than worthless on heavies+

See this post for the best advice. You get more tonnage for ENDO than for Ferro. So use/try it first... always.

More or less, the weight reduction provided by endo steel is by far better on any mech for the criticals it takes up, and once you have endo steel you don't have room for ferro-fibrous anyway.

It's useless and doesn't serve a purpose since endo does basically what it does more efficiently for the same critical cost.

Only time to use Ferro is when it's use will cover the tonnage you need to complete your build. And that is only if you don't have tonnage to use Endo!!!

FF armor is not useless, but it is the least useful weight saving option available. Always ALWAYS take Endo Steel before you take FF. If, after installing ES, you still have 14 slots, all your weapons, all (or nearly all) your heatsinks and all (or most) of the armor you want, then think about FF. It is only going to save you a little bit of weight though, so even if you *can* fit it, it might not be worth the cost.

You will usually only see FF on light mechs.

Clan FF is a different story. it only takes 7 crit spaces (Clan ES is only 7 as well), so many more mechs could use cES+cFF.

I think that a lot of new people have the misconception that Ferro will increase their maximum armor due to the wording and this is not the case. You cannot have more armor than the maximum allowed for your weight class even if you upgrade to Ferro.

You should always get Endo Steel first and Ferro almost never unless you really need that extra bit more weight.

I never use FF on my commandos. It frees up about .5 tons, and consts too much to repair.

I think it's safe to say that FF armor is useless. The number of builds that actually benefit from it is very small.
