If you're struggling consistently, it's far less likely that every round you're being paired with bad players than it is likely you are the primary factor in your losses.

In other words, you're bad. Get good.

I would be leaning towards agreement here except....

I just logged off from playing about 50% losses with a team on comms.

The reason for the losses was the 4 other guys who couldn't be satified with simply sucking.Oh no they had to actually be a detriment to winning.

If at the end of a match and the score board has all kills attributed to your 4 man.You lowest damage in your 4 man is more than tripple any puggie and you see a puggie with negative XP (yep -50 xp was the score) it's not you being bad it is due to being stuck with stupid and his three moron friends.

The last match was 5-8 on kills (my 4 man premade made all 5) we had one puggie kill another puggie with "friendly fire" we lost this match because dispite killing 5 of the enemy the rest of our team was hard at work killing eachother. The score board listed our 4 puggies with.

35 damage 0 kills
125 damage 0 kills (and -50xp)
78 damage 0 kills
98 damage 0 kills

if this isn't proof of incompitence I don't know what possibly could be used to quantify the idiocy.

Matchmaker phase 1 is enforced interaction with the moron lottery system that I opted out of when I joined a merc corp.

I've had similar experiences. Quite frequently actually when I pug solo. People aren't even smart enough to press R, so they can get proper long range support. Let alone actually move against the most threatening targets. They're content to just get picked to pieces by the dangerous mechs on the field, waltz merrily into murder holes, chase enemy jenners (while rolling in Atlases no less), in fully open terrain and other stupid shenanigans. As I said before, it's like people think they have bullet time to protect them.

I want 8 man teaming back. It'll be fun instead of being unintentionally hilarious.

The funny thing about the "Stick together!" meme is that there is no further comms from the same guy down the line when it comes to making decisions only a couple of minutes into the match -- so naturally, people start doing their own thing what seems to be the right choice at the time.

Me, I try to be a good wingman to another Atlas, but 99% of the time there's no comms either and eventually we get separated.

So, to the OP, this is the way it is until you decide to go with a) voice comms and :P a dedicated group/team.

Not ture. They usualy say one more thing. "Another stupid team." as his or her side loses.

I think what should be universally accepted rule of thumb is follow the heaviest mech... period...

the heaviest is the atlas, then folow the atlas..., the heaviest is the jenner, you follow the jenners, the heaviest is catapult, you follow catapult... i cant think of a situation where this basic advice would get you into trouble... and even if it somehow did, you would still all be together...

Why would you want your lights to stick with the unit? Maybe that's part of the problem. They should be scouting and relaying enemy position back to you.

The irony is that since phase 1 matchmaking, i am seeing lots of 4 man premades who think they are total badasses and can solo the enemy team.

Typically this is what happens :

4 mechs start going one way completely seperate from the rest of the enemy team. Either ignores the rest of the team or insists they don't need help. The enemy team either spots them and wipes them out, or charges the rest of the team, wipes them out, and caps, all the while 4 man premade is in the middle of nowhere.

Usually seen in the forest caves or the frozen tunnel/ravine.

Wait, so...

Premades are OP and wreaking the game AND they are idiots who can't play right....

I want a skin implements that is the im with stupid tshirt, however it has seven arrows, on for each of my teammate

how many times do i have to say it, STAY TOGETHER!!!!!! you too lights!!!

This is a result of the Match system. If you could play more than 1 round with each of these 'stupid' guys, then you would be able to make improvements and come up with better plans. Right now the match system dumps you with 7 randoms every game when you pub. It just isn't fun....

Mmmm... dunno about lights tho.
Lights should be a fair bit fowards doing recon, harassment and TAGing/NARCing for the LRM support-boats.
They can move off (JUST STICK TO COVER)

Other then that, there is never enough t-shirts, bumper-stickers or mech-camos to try and rectify every act of stupidity commonly encountered in a PUG :D
They learn though...

Perhaps a mech camo that says: 'THERE IS HOPE!'
But i personally recon thats far too cheerful to be on the side of a BattleMech

The Flying Column sounds so good, and it worked for Napolian, so long as you have enough cannon fodder to soak up the enemys fire until you reach melee and win by waight of numbers.

I pug 100% and in 1 out of 25 launches (and I'm being generous here) someone says something remotely strategic or tactical at the beginning of the match let alone use the battle grid which I've only seen used once in 400+ launches. Don't put all the blame on PUGs or newbies.

Since this is a blame thread (it is right?), how about the disconnects, afk'ers and farmers?

I feel your pain OP but the lack of a lobby, tutorial, in-game text chat shortcuts (even basic ones) and inability to chat after match ends are probably a big reason for your pain.

The occasional match where everything comes together is extremely satisfying especially when its an 8-0 or 8-1 with no premade on our side. Wouldn't it be great it to play with these guys again? Oops, no chat after completion ... wait let me get a screenshot of the results .... huh? PrtSc gives me a big blank black square?

Sigh ... if I didn't already like BT / MW games, I'd have stopped playing this after the 10th launch.

Edit: grammar

i dont know where this comes from, what is the point of knowing exactly where all 8 enemy mechs are when they are 1500 meters away, that is useless information. the maps are so small that all a scout running off alone is doing, is taking needless damage. the best use for a scout, is to wait for the main force to make contact, then and only then make a move, either hit rear gauss cats, or lrm boats, or just deal with the enemy scouts doing the same.

this is almsot as bad as a team chasing a single jenner, that is for the scout, or scout hunter, not the main battle line.

so to all scouts, stick with the group, if base is under attack, stop whatever your doing, nothing is more important and deal with the base, you are likely the only one fast enough to make it, while running for cap, call for help, make sure someone is coming, sometimes you have to hit "B" and see who is closest and ask them by name to come help. its part of the game, do it.

tldr: scouts shouldnt run off alone, that information is useless.

No, it isn't. They should pinpoint the main enemy force before the assaults (and slow heavies) commit. Assaults can't be everywhere in the blink of an eye and don't have LOS to the entire map for the entire match. Knowledge of enemy positions gets them in play as fast as possible with minimal chance of being left out while the rest of the team gets hammered.

Scouts should report positions then either fall back to the group, hit and fade, or spot for LRMs.

I seem to have teammates that persistently run out into the open and get 300 LRMS dumped on their head simultaneously. It's particularly aggravating since I like close-range variants so I have to stay back early game and watch them throw away the match for us.

Although I had this weird phase a couple weeks ago where I was constantly getting awesome teams and winning every match. Of course it didn't last.

Its pretty bad when, in my personal experience, I have games were my damage is almost (usually only 10 or 20 points away) as much as my entire team put together.

Yeah sure! And while we lights stay with your slow hunk of junk, making ourself easy targets, the enemy can go wherever he wants, without us knowing. Knowledge is half way to victory. We provide it for you.

While I fully agree with you some tips for people doing that (not saying you don't, just in general):

-Please communicate that you are of scouting (and if teammembers acknowledge, that is in general a good sign)
-If you see multiple mechs, retreat and message it to your team. (I have actually ran over to help a scouting mech and it turns out he is not fighting one enemy scout but 5 enemy mechs)
-Basically, keep communicating, also if you don't see anyone.

Absolutely.Without relaying any information scouting has 0 use. Information and communication are way to sparse in PUGs as is..

<Light pilot> I'll go scouting.
<Assault pilot nods in silence>
*Light speeds off into the sunset*
*Everyone else kind of loosely moves forward to a random location*
*Scout comes back, circles and jumps around everyone like crazy*
<Assault pilot> So what did you see?
*Silence*
