Prioritize The Highlander (Screw The Flea...for Now)

Jenner
Commando
Raven
vs
Atlas
Awesome
The game would have 4 light mechs vs 2 Assault mechs. I think we need another assault mech first to keep up the variety.

1. No i'm not saying that...I'm saying that the majority of the player base is probably already here, or is coming soon...so while ya new people will continue to come in a cannon fodder mech isn't going to be as badly needed then as it might be now.
2. Trial grind can be more easily fixed, and fixed much sooner in a lot of other ways then adding the flea. The poll shows that 60% want the highlander before other mechs on the list....there is no real argument against that. If more of your people want that then what you are offering they'll be happier if you give them what they want. It is basically like the LRM hot fix...there was a mass QQ event and they got on the ball and fixed it...but there were people saying LRMs were not OP even then. So should they have ignored the majority and ruined the game for 80% of the people?
If 60% at least, think your schedule is jacked, that is worth tweaking if you can to appease your customer base.
A month? Hey a lot of people can leave a game in a month....and the faster they can get stuff into the game that the most people want the more people we will attract and keep...a month could mean a lot more money for PGI. The first 8 mechs weren't terrible choices...but the rest of the order has been so-so at best. Getting the prime content into the game ASAP helps ensure the commercial viability of the product. Don't save the stuff the most people want for after everyone has gotten fed up and left the game.
The flea may help out the noobs...but much more efficient ways exist for dealing with that problem then wasting another month on a mech most don't seem all that interested in....and if that is their solution to trial mech grind it will be far to little...far to late.

Oh shut up. You talk about others being selfish but are selfish yourself. Waht WE need is better netcode and EU servers. Rest can follow in like 8 months.. i dont care so WE dont need that piece of junk yet.

The window is they likely still have time to alter the order to better suit the desires of the players....especially if it takes 3 months after starting a mech to finally see it in game like it did with the cataphract.
It isn't just me...60% voted in favor of the Highlander before other mechs scheduled. Only slightly more the 20% voted the current schedule is fine....that is pretty crappy anticipation of what the players want on PGI's end.
I've also stated that while the Highlander may be my priority...there are other mechs that deserve to be in before the flea... arguably every other mech on the list...as out of all the flea is probably the least popular.
Even if I don't get the Highlander any sooner...in fact even if it gets pushed back further, they need to rework the release order to get the most desired mechs in game asap...because clearly the majority are not happy with their release order

Yes, there is. One that's been used over and over and over again by just about every game developer: Less than 10% of a game's population ever visit the forums, and most of those who do, do so to complain about something.
Either way, since making a 'mech is such a complicated process, I don't think the schedule will change much.

I think stating that other mechs should be priority before the flea...frankly ones that I don't really care about is kinda the opposite of selfish....unless you count wanting the most people to be the most happy they can be so the game I want to play does well as selfish...then yep...you got me.
And the fix bugs bla bla argument is just unrealistic. They are not going to shut down content production, at least not for more then a weak or 2 to do all that....Different employees do different jobs. It is very possible that would ultiimately hurt the game as much if not more then those problems currently are even if it was realistic for them to do it.They may take some time to shift more focus towards that...in fact they just posted somewhere they are in a "hardening" period where those things are the focus....but completely unrealistic to expect them to abandon content production.
But hey if they wanna devote more time to fixing that crap...and the highlander gets pushed back even further because of that then so be it...that is what is better for the game so I'll be ok with it.
The Highlander may coincide with my personal desire...but it is also the unselfish choice because the majority want it sooner then most of the other mechs yet to be released.

I'll concede that is valid...but chances are if you polled the entire player base you'd get a similar result..... Thankfully they didn't go with your argument when we had the mass QQ event about super OP LRMs.... They could have just assumed the 90% not on the forums would probably be fine with how things were....somehow I doubt that would have turned out well.
As for the release order...you might be right, but I'd love to get official word on that. If it isn't possible...it isn't possible...but if it is, and considering how few seem to be happy with their release order they ought to do what they can to make the player base happier.

The majority of the players - the backbone of every f2p game - are the ones that just start playing. Thats the guys who grind trial mechs. Those "hardened bittervets" who already have millions on their accounts and can afford everything are not paying any more money to get started.
So actually you and all the guys you call "WE" are bored and want assaults. You have everything the others are striving for. The flea ist the logical next step. A cheap weak mech for those guys who cant afford anything else but want to gain exp and customize stuff. Thats the only logical step to get ppl addicted.
oh and please lets stop talking about what the majority wants. The majority is not reading forums anyway...

Works for me, but again...
I doubt they can/would pull everyone responsible for mech creation/implementation off of it just to focus on those issues....at least for very long without causing and/or exacerbating other problems.

The Flea will just make them frustrated with the game when they're piloting a terrible light mech that was a waste of money.
There are better solutions for a better new player experience than just giving them a cheap mech that's outclassed by the other lights in pretty much every way at the moment. This isn't the thread for that, though. Just saying I don't think this is going to solve anyone's problems. The Commando's already very cheap, and yet there's just regret after buying it after the initial excitement of "oh boy I can customize a mech now! Too bad I had to buy one I didn't really want and it's not very good and..."

Like i said in another post, I agree the trial mech/grind is an issue but the flea is so far down the road that if that is their plan to fix those issues...those people are all already screwed.
Also note that a large portion of current players are founders....people who have already demonstrated a willingness to spend time and money on this game.
There is little evidence, if any to suggest that the general forum sentiment does't overall reflect the sentiments of the player base as a whole...Possible the 2 populations may differ? Sure...but how do we know? I'm dealing with what I see/hear...and of those who are bothering to speak/vote the majority favor the other mechs before the flea...that is worth fighting for if it is possible IMO.
Kinda sounds like you might be of the position "Screw the 60%...I want a cheap mech because I'm not willing to invest the time/money in this f2p game that others are". If that is the case....sounds way more selfish then my basic argument of "Hey the majority want the highlander and/or aren't happy with the release order...can we fix this?"
stjobe, on 24 November 2012 - 04:00 AM, said:
That may be...heck you may even be right...and if 60% of the people agreed with you i'd say, Ok... "Well i think the Highlander, or other mechs would be better...but if that is what the majority wants, chances are that is what is best for the game...do it devs!"
Just is not the case though.

If your QQing about that boxy, unwieldy, wack-looking Scottsman-wannabe mech gets the Stalker bumped until the NEXT assault is put into the game, I'm going to go on a ******* tirade. The Stalker is the coolest mech in the game! Chickenwalkers RULE - unlike their Gundam-wannabe counterparts. We've already got enough of those humaforms for each weight class; I personally demand that they stick to the schedule and give us the back-canted-leg mobile Assault weapons platform in December.
And fie on all of you for suggesting otherwise.
