As a more or less dedicated scout, one of the main tactics I use is to run in and cap the base until it makes a couple peel off the main fight. Works like a champ. You either come stop me in which case my team tells me and I disappear before you get there, or I cap your base. Only other alternatives is counter cap or kill my team. Some people refer to it as a distraction.

It is not the fault of your enemy that you dislike having to defend. That is your choice. Just as exploiting that fact (it wouldn't get used as often if it didn't work regularly) is the other teams choice. Noting works all the time however otherwise everyone would do that.

If you refuse to use a readily available tactic that is your call. People will continue to use that to their advantage. No amount of petulant whining will change that.

Dislike a tactic? Counter it.

It's a horrible broken gamemode that we just have to deal with until the new one comes along. Either you hang back and get circled by lagshield lights all day or you move out and get your base sniped. It heavily favors faster mechs and for some reason since they implemented the giant base beacons it has become more difficult (is it even still possible?) to stop someone from capping your base by being inside of it. It was a test gamemode that has taken on a life of its own because the developers haven't had time to do anything about it.

Any gamemode that discourages combat in a mechwarrior game is a pretty terrible gamemode as I see it, particularly since that's the strength of the engine right now.

meh i find the arrogance of the pubstomper worse.. they know they are goin out like a pack of 8 wolves into a heard of headless chickens..

They know very well that they are hugely overpowered in a full 2 lance team.. In fact that why theyd do it.. so that they could go on to get 15:1 K/D ratios..... but now they've been put on thier knees a bit..

yet they can come in here and whine like they are going to be getting it back in it's previous iteration.. they try and defend being premade and being able to run amok like a gang of school yard bullies with comments like "How dare we have friends"..

heck even the 4 man lance can be devastating to another team.. I know this from dropping into the shorthand side of a 6 vs 8 mismatch. said in chat Oh this dont look good plz dont say ur premade over there. over team chat came.. we have a group of 4 here we should be able put up a fight... working together with that lance we won.. i think our team lost one mech and the other team went down 8 to 1....

Will they get thier 8 man teams back yes.. but they wont be able to go pubstomping.. It will be fighting other premade teams..

This interim system in place is just a bit of a stopgap measure to curb the pubstomping... notice how theres less complaints about pubstomping.. but more complaints disguised about not being able to...

so i have no love for the 8 man premades that were.. they can get what i decide to throw out.. and when they get them back they'll have to do some work for thier wins..

i have no love for the arrogance of the, and pub sounds wrong to me, guess its the wow vet in me, so, i use PUGstomp instead. Anyway, the pugstompers drive me crazy to be sure, but, to be fair, your pancake baby thing was over the top nasty. It will eventually get back to where a 12 man team when we finally drop as a 12 on 12 with the right coordination will always have the edge over the 12 man pug just the way it is. But, ya, always the chance to stomp the premades, always fun when you do that too.

Complaints like this just sound absurd to me. If someone wants a fight, the capping mechanic is a great way to make sure they get one. Defend your base, the opposing team is bound to show up eventually and then you'll get all the combat you want. Problem solved.

Your right, 8 man pre-mades ruined the game. Now there is no excuse for the bad players of 'Oh, it must have been a pre-made, that is why I did 100 damage.' Oh wait, it is because they sucked and dragged you guys down that you lost, not because of a pre-made. Know why I know this? Because I get stuck with 4 pugs and have to fight 8 vs 4 90% of the time. They suck and still suck. Dragging everyone else down to their level doesn't make them suck less or make the game better. With such small numbers and the way matchmaker is set up, it hurts any team that has a AFK or DC, but /NOTHING/ can make up for a craptastic player, much less multiple of them. Least in WoT, there are 15 other tanks. One to three bad players can be overcome, but not in 8 vs 8.

Why were LRMs 'OP'? Because of 4 man pre-made. Now, buy a stock Dragon or Centurion with it's LRM 10. That weapon is a worthless weapon unless they have TAG or has someone in their lance with TAG or Artemis. To overcome terrible pugs that are not smart enough to stick with the group or are terrible players, pre-mades were forced to not depend on them. They can't tell you where the enemy is, they can't be depended to watch an area or fire intelligently on a target, so you over-compensate that with 3 Missile boats and a spotter or pray the Pug can hit 'R'. The Tuesday the patch went into effect, I had a LRM boat with 50 LRMs, but no Tag or Artemis. You know how much damage I was doing? 2-3% of their health per volley, at 2 damage a missile. Holy jumping Pogo-sticks Batman! LRMs were OPed! But if someone Tagged them, well, the damage went up. But naked, they were /fine/. Now? I scrapped the mech. Thanks.

There are a ton of pugs out there who are good players, there are just way more who are bad players, specially with the start of Open Beta. And that is not fair to anyone.

Best salavage values I've seen are around 40-50k. That's for 8 destroyed mechs.

Let's be generous and do 50k / 8 = 6,25k per mech. The 5/7,5k you get for capping isn't that bad.

What ever gets me the win faster is a good way. Faster matches = more moeny. I sure as hell won't be bothered to hunt down some lone jenner the last 3 minutes of the match when I could do guaranteed victory with capping.

well technically you would be the noob since the games objective is to cap the enemy base and you should be helping them but continue to qq away because you dont get your way.

Actually scrub would be someone that is not playing to win.

Capping is legitimate part of the game. End of story. If I see the enemy leaving his base uncovered I will always take the chance.

Anyhow this is a porblem only because the whole post match rewards are chosen stupidly in their weighting.

Doing useful things towards winning should be valued higher than the pure fact of your team winning or losing.

That said: The pure bonus for winning/losing needs to be lowered while the boni for kills, dmg, capping and salvage need to be put higher.

Will bad pilots that constantly lose or do no damage lose money that way? Certainly yes. And I say rightly so. This is a team game. If you fail to be of use you do not deserve to profit from the effort your 7 teammates had to put in in order to win despite being effectively put at a 1 man down disadvantage by your poor performance.

I wonder if the op played WoT. I'd wager he was a "kill all don't cap" type.

I was, because it gave more money for the whole team in WoT, not to mention it also gave repair bills to every enemy which was good too. Because in WoT, it's you, 14 people who generally don't shoot you and 15 people who generally do shoot you. You want to be the only guy who profits.

Do people know that you only get 7500 extra cbills (2.500 for assist, 5.000 for cap) for capping? You get up to 30000 cbills for Salvage bonus. Stop capping and GET SOME KILLS. I'm getting tired of having to be stuck with 2-3 Capwarriors since they cried so much to eliminate 8 man premades which forces my team to make separate groups instead of being able to play together.

Feel free to unistall or defend/return to your base.

I prefer to kill everyone in a match, but at the same time I use the base capture as a tactical option to split enemy forces and/or put the enemy in a situation to make a choice and force the combat. Victory usually goes to the aggressor in MWO, learn to use that or don't I could care less.

LOL the funny thing is you guys all like capping like it takes some kind of skill. Keep capping it up guys, I'll keep wrecking you every game all until it gets completely boring, and its getting pretty close. No more challenging team-fight battles, just noobs who waddle in and try to cap from behind. Hopefully PGI can do something to help this nonsense before the game sinks completely.

You give off so much attitude and brag so much I can only believe that the opposite you present is happening. You wade out into the middle of the field with no targets available. Then you stomp around a bit before you look up and notice the big red flashy sign, and then cry yourself to sleep at how "Noobs" are cheating because they are supposed to line up and let you shoot them.
