It turns every game into tedious snipefest, because you can see the enemy without exposing yourself to fire.
It's one of the things that killed MW4 for a lot of players, because the game devolved into one tactic, that was called 'pop-tarting'. You hide behind some cover you can see over, put your reticule on the enemy, hit the jump jets and pop up just enough to expose your weapons, fire, then drop back down behind cover before the enemy can return fire - and that's just one issue.
The whole thing is just a huge can of worms that creates a ton of problems, splits the community, and divides units - and it's one of those things you can't take back. It's like playing with a joystick or playing with a mouse. Once you've gotten used to playing in 3rd-person, you simply can't go back to being a 1st-person player. It creates a permanent rift.

And for all those that say it "kills the simulator aspect hErP dErP!", I'm pretty sure Flight Simulator and others had a 3rd person view (and I'm sorry, Flight Simulator was about as raw simulator as I experienced). HOWEVER, there was a serious drawback --> you can't see your controls. This is the ONLY WAY I see where 3rd person MIGHT work. If you want the over the shoulder cam, then you lose a lot of your cockpit feedback. Simple.
I still say no please.

Some wanted 3rd person view WAAAAY back before the start of the Closed Beta, they were a relatively minor or not so vocal part of the community. They were chased away back then, either they adapted and play MWO as it is now or simply went to find another game suited for them.
Yeah. The difference being back then, Russ still had some balls to stick to what he knew the game should be doing. It was that attitude of NOT caving into the console crowd that actually persuaded me to part with my $120.
These days he's just caving in to every opportunity to try and turn a quick buck instead of sticking to what the vision of MWO was going to be.
So very sad to see.

Because it offers the (ENORMOUS) advantage of letting you see around a corner or over a hill or behind a rock without exposing yourself. You can line up your shot or plan your strategy without having to take any kind of actual risk. It needs to be removed from the game entirely on any competitive level.

As far as my opinion...I say take it out back of the woodshed and have done with it.

This I have to agree with most of the community that this is a singularly bad idea, and only a band-aid to a hatchet wound. What would be a far superior area to develop, is one that the community has been petitioning for since June.
Create a training ground. Take the maps you currently have, allow both individuals and groups drop in it, and make it so that no experience or Cbills can be gained. No need for new material. During the drop, ask the player for a tutorial, and if they click yes, then ******* betty will guide you through a tutorial of the game. Or, you could even separate that further, and have a tutorial playthrough and a training ground separate. No time limit necessary, and people exit by quitting the match.
This is something Bravo Whisky Charlie has been petitioning for, and I know my group's not the only one. 3PV isn't going to make the game easier to play. Experienced players will utilize it to far greater effect than new players, it won't help new players work together, and it will actually hurt the client base when hardcore fans who would be sticking out the game because of loyalty now get MW4 flashbacks.
MW4 I've heard was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back years ago, and to implement the most controversial part of that game into MWO won't help bring in loyal customers who will actually pay for the premium time and the cool mech skins and the cockpit objects.

Yeah, I'm the one on the soap box. Right. Simply stating that each person has a right to stand on the soap box and give their opinion, regardless of whether or not they think spending X amount of RL money or being around longer gives them a right to a taller soap box or more time to stand on it. Everybody has a right to state their opinions, and simply dismissing new opinions "because it was discussed before" is, again, asinine. Money spent or time testing does not validate ones opinion at the expense of others. Get a grip.
Yeah, okay. You have fun with your strawman, I'll sit over here with the people that are actually reading responses. Good luck with that, I'm out.

Geez, you turned your back on this guy in like what... 4 months? It's not like he's fallen into mountains of money since then. The game isn't even a success yet. Just because he doesn't hit the forums like he used to doesn't mean he's become a greedy douchbag. I don't agree with some of Piranha's choices right now either, but I'm not giving up hope just yet.

2)Immersion. 3rd person view will ruin it.
3)Implementing it trough community warfare will split the player base, which isn't very large as it is.
4)1st person only ISN'T the biggest issue that scares the new players away. There are a lot more pressing concerns which cripple this game badly(stability, performance, weapon balance, lack of content and game modes, no ingame tutorial/tips, awful UI) than just ´difficulty to pilot mechs´ for new players who come from FPS. Have you tried to TEACH them how to pilot a mech? And no, training grounds and youtube video tutorial aren't enough.

If someone can give me one argument against a 3pv being implemented like this, I'd love to hear it.
Here, I'll give you one:
Why bother at all fiddling with it when PGI have MUCH MUCH more important things to implement and fix. Good enough reason ?
