I've enjoyed both gametypes for years now, and probably prefer 3rd person as the competition level in those games are EXTREMELY MORE COMPETETIVE than most of the noobrushing 1st person games. Though to be honest, competetive games can be had in the upper echelons of team play regardless of view - its just a simple fact that the better players prefer 3rd person.
3rd person would be a great add.
Don't listen to the FFP'ers whining about quitting the game - they are addicts, much like most of us here, to anything Mech and as long as they can still play in their forced first person matches they will continue to do so. I've spent what must be more than a dozen years arguing this same stupid argument with them - and looky looky, they are all still here shooting away.

PGI has a right to decide what is best for MechWarrior Online, which does not have to meet the expectations certain players from XYZ have for MechWarrior Online.
If they wanted to make XYZ, they wouldn't have made MechWarrior Online at all. They would've reincarnated XYZ the way it was "before it was ruined".
But this is MechWarrior Online. This is not XYZ.
And 91% of the forum-going player-base has the right to choose to not participate, should PGI choose to implement something they do not like.
That must be weighed against all other things.

What? The most successful competitive games are isometric currently. Before that I can't think of a single 3rd person game that topped FPS games in competitiveness. I suggest you actually do your researh before speaking up.

Mechwarrior Online currently has forced first person view so why are YOU in favor of changing it?
It's players like you who ruin good games because you can't accept a game in it's current state or maybe the current state is just too difficult for you.

So I'm guessing people are too dumb to utilize the center torso button or read from the indicators on the HUD compass thing.

I'm thinking about life after MWO just hearing that 3rd person is a possibility.
I could understand using it for all of 30 seconds while a disembodied voice states in a training video, "This is your mech. Note how the torso is able to twist independently of the legs."
<Enable split screen, retaining 3rd person in the first half, with 1st person in the second half>
<Rotate mech upper torso>
<Move forward and backward>
<Move while rotating torso>
<Move forward, turn left/right while rotating torso>
Beyond that 3rd person would completely destroy the feel of combat.

91% of the forum-going player-base right now is weighing in at a mighty 38 logged in users on this thread - you can see the number of people watching this thread below. This entire forum only had 292 logged in users in the last 15 minutes. Even multiplying those numbers 10 fold to account for offline users it's not what I would call a major economic force.

They have the right to implement the game the way they want to, simply because they have control of the IP rights that allow them to do so.
That, however, doesn't mean they can do anything they darn well please with the game and expect everyone to think the game they have made meets the definition of "Mechwarrior."

The best counter-argument you can offer is to call the opposing side "whiney freaks?"

You are mistaking your opinion for a fact. A fact is something that is a given that is not derived from any other idea.
Part of the reason there is SO much backlash vs 3pv is because of posts like this one you've just made.
