If they are going to add a 3rd person cheat mode and not work on things that actually need attention then i'm going to not be very happy. It seems these devs just CAVE to whiners, and not the ones who have legitimate complaints like people not wanting 3rd person mode. If this goes through I will never touch another PGI product again. It's simply a terrible idea.

I say NO.

I really dont care too much about the 3rd person camera issue, my issue is this:

If you are going to do something as large as add in a new camera mode and then split the playerbase between 1st person and 3rd person all for something as simple as new player retention ....

What next?

You dont go adding in something this big because a few people cant be bothered to just jump in the pool and try to swim. You add in OTHER things first.

Smaller things. Everyone else has already posted them but they are all valid.

An option to unlock your torso from your feet by default enabled.
A 3d representation of your mech in the cockpit.
Clean up the small minimap in the bottom right corner to clearly show feet/torso.
A tutorial (which EVERYONE agrees that this game NEEDS)

Not, HURR DURR LETS ADD A NEW CAMERA ANGLE.

What next? Newbies are gonna start crying that fast mechs are too hard to hit? Are we going to get an auto aim to help them out too? What about no heat mgmt? Lets kill jump jets too, cause looking up at 45 degrees is a bit much for new players to grasp! What other reactionary decisions are you going to make with your game?

Is this what we have to look forward with your future development?

Some people are going to complain or state they cant be bothered to learn small nuances in your game so you will basically add a mode/feature that negates that mechanic and then divide your player base again. Is that what we have to look forward to?

Cause if thats the case let me get a refund for my 120 dollars now. I understand this is your first mmo you are developing and all but for Gods sake, you DONT make large changes to your game just because a few players cant pick up and learn simple stuff. What happens at your personal residences when your cable TV goes out? Do you immediately go out and buy a few hundred thousand dollars worth of solar panels because cable TV out always means that the national power grid is down amirite?

No of course not. You start small. Check cable in the other rooms, are they out too? Yes? Ok. Does the rest of the house have power? Yes? Ok not the power. Call the cable company. Did you pay your bill on time? Yes? Ok maybe they are just having an outage in your area.

You dont immediately run for bomb shelters cause "skynet has started its war against humans omfg RUN RUN FOR THE HILLS!"

Whats wrong with you people?

None of the issues given as reasons for adding a 3rd person view wouldn't be solved (and solved far better) by adding in a tutorial and training area.

The quote that sent a chill down my spine was, "The first version of MechWarrior up to Open Beta was really for the core fan."
Was for the core fan? PGI, do we really mean that little to you now?

Oh my god! Do we really need to help people understand a concept that my eight year old is even going "They can't be that dumb daddy"...

I'm just gona go ram my head against the wall for a bit. Maybe I'll understand then.

MechWarrior Online is being designed to put you the player in the seat of the pilot. It is 100% first person view only. Being the pilot is one of our key design pillars and 3rd person breaks that pillar on multiple levels as seen in many of the other 3rd Person discussions.

We will investigate 3rd person in the far off distance for special game settings, but this is very far off in the distance.

While we appreciate those who enjoy 3rd person, MWO will be 1st person out of the gate and in the near future.

Seriously??? That's a huge part of this game not having 3rd person! Why don't we just turn this game into every other first person shooter game in existence. I personally have a hard time with the movement also but that's also what makes this game fun is the fact it is different....

Did anyone asking for 3rd person ever play the original simulation games?

I don't have a lot of time for games anymore and am not all that good, but from a novice player I would like to say that not having the 3rd person view has made this game a lot of fun.

I would be more supportive of a separation of the community by joystick/mouse for play/competition.

I voted no. I do not think it is wanted or needed for gameplay purposes. It would however be cool for machinima purposes.

No that is Center Torso to Legs. What is missing is the Center Legs to Torso.

So if your torso is looking out to an open area, but your legs are up against a wall, you could hit a button and your legs rotate to center to where you are looking.

The current "C" command would torso twist so you are now looking at the wall.

I think there just needs to be a prominent training level for new players. Try to get them in the mindset that the torso of a 'Mech is equal to a tank's turret instead of a 'Mech moving like a guy from Halo or Call of Duty.

Also, no way to 3rd person! I won't quit, but I won't be thrilled.

Is this battletech or transformers. It needs to feel as though you are sitting in the bloody cockpit not bouncing around as though you are the giant stompy death robot.

100% against 3rd person.
