Have been noticing a lot of hate towards Ravens lately.

I'm not entirely sure as to why a lot of games I've been in have been giving me a lot of flak for driving the 3L model. (Most assume that any raven is the trial mech) But with 97.2 land speed, 45 Firepower, and able to strike and severely cripple most mechs, wheres the bad thing about that?

Some would clarify that a Jenner is better, but with the up coming patches with implications of the ECM Jammer and Beagle Probe system, that would only make the Raven more fun to Pilot.

Since the open beta I have been sitting pretty steady at about 2.0 K:D and thats helping teammates, scattering and getting targets for the missle boats, etc.

Surely, anyone can say, play what's fun for you! and I certainly do. I guess I'd like to hear what others opinion on the matter is =)

It would, except that apparently all the mechs will be able to have these things. The jenner is just a more capable mech in all aspects right now.

However, player skill > mech choice. Rock what you like and kick *** doing it.

I hope they make a lot more of the equipment chassis limited, so that the Raven can shine like it should. It would also put emphasis on mech roles like they claim they want.

Yeah, it's a mistake to allow any chassis to equip ECM and BAP. Really should be limited to the Raven and eventually clan scouts.

I understand that the average build for a Jenner that I have seen most of the time has either been 4 medium lasers and 2 Streak SRM 2's or SRM 4's and 2 medium pulses. I guess depending on the circumstances some mech's shine over others.

I guess I overly enjoy my 3 medium laser, 2 SRM 6 build.

One thing I dont understand about the new equipment they are implementing is that it doesn't allow for total immersion to the mech you are piloting. Its acting as a "shiny" replacement to the issues and balancing that some other mechs and variants need tweeking for.

Still tho, thanks for the comment :)

The problem is that that doesn't make a ton of sense, given that we're given an ability to mod our mechs comparable to the canon "hero" mechs. If you can swap out machine guns for gauss rifles, change a frame to endosteel, and shove a 390XL into a centurion, why can't you slot in some ECM while you're at it?

They could make ECM a hardpoint that only some mechs have, but it seems to me like they tipped their hand with AMS.

Others have suggested that Targeting Computers, BAP, GECM, etc... should go into an "EWAR" hardpoint, and while every mech would have 1, certain mechs would have more... it would be much more interesting like this...

the max a centurion can take is the 260 (xl or standard)

also why the jenner is better, it can go faster.

Just barely faster than my Raven 3L which mounts a 295XL

Not that much faster, honestly. The 3L is nearly as fast. The 3L is pretty solid and depending how they implement BAP and ECM, etc... may be the better choice. Frankly anyone who gives a pilot crap about the mech they drive needs to remember this is a game and people are playing it to have fun, not to min/max all the time.

I think a lot of people are hating on Ravens because of the frequent occurance of "Suicide Ravens" in games. Just saying.

As far as builds go, I am not a big Raven player I like my cicada for scouting.

So far the raven is my favorite mech in game followed by the commando. Both generally have flexible hardpoint options across all the variants and make extremely easy use of defilade, also they are much more fun than running a zombie wang.

Dont know about "hate" but RVN in any variant are frowned upon in premades - low speed, compared to others light mechs, and absence of advanced electronics make him useless in any competition.
And he will reamin useless, if there will be no restriction's on BAP\ECM kind equipment.

Jenner is superior in about EVERYTHING!
So letting ECM, BAP, ........ fit on every mech means that people will start the real flame. Everyone who isnt in a "well-known" uber-chassis is considered noob.

Team loosing with 2 Raven vs a Team with 2 jenners...... guess what flames will come?
Ìts allready flamed in game if people join with a trial awesome. Because it sucks so hard for 80 tons its a pure joke.

PLS TAKE THE CHANCE AND GIVE DIFFERENT MECHS A UNIQUE ADVANTAGE.

That would be a decent compromise. Just like the Atlas K has 2 AMS hardpoints, the Raven would get 2 EWAR points, while everyone else gets just 1.

Still, I can't help but feel this is one instance where exclusivity is pretty important to a mech ever being used again. Its already extremely difficult (if not impossible) to justify taking a Raven over a Jenner. If a Jenner had the same access to ECM and BAP as a Raven, well, I don't think we'd ever see the poor critter get used.

The inferior engine speed to the jenner is the biggest problem.

As far as the modules go, there should be a couple of mechs in each weight class that can utilize them, but not everything. Its not special anymore if any mech can equip it.

IMO, the jenner should be considered a brawling light, and the raven a scouting and electronics light. Pretty much anything that is inferior in engine size or hardpoints should have capabilities to mount special equipment.

Unless you want to mount a gauss rifle.

Or a couple autocannons.

Or want three mechs with totally distinct hardpoint layouts to get get to elite skills and not have two of them be basically identical, 4energy2missile, 4energy1missile. Yawn.

That beign said I love jenners, and played them primarily in Closed... but since open I've been toying with commandos and Ravens for me lights and loving it so far.

I personally run a 3 medium laser streak SRM 2 Commando and love it more then I have any right too. I find myself playing a real hit and run striker.
