Theyre not balanced at all actually. An AC/2 should not be doing the same amount of dps as an AC/10.

Maybe, the AC2 is balanced and the AC10 is out of whack?

Let me get this straight...

...ITT, the op made a statement about the AC2 (The autocannon 2, just in case AC2 was somehow a typo), a 5 ton weapon that deals 2 damage... is too good? So somehow, even an array of them has enraged the op enough to not only create a rage thread about it, but also demand that it be nerfed?

Did I get that correct? Now, bare in mind I have played myself quite a bit of MechWarrior in my day. Now, this I can honestly say that this is the first time someone has claimed the AC2 as being too good, or "OP".

Ladies and gentlemen, I am both skeptical and a bit confused. Someone please clear this up so that I am not horribly misinformed.

Sit down. Are you sitting? Okay.

This is a real event, it actually happened. The AC2 has been declared a weapon achieving the status of, get ready, "over - powered".

Okay, now that you're coherent again, drink this vodka and smoke this cigarette and just don't think for a while. Let it filter in slowly.

The AC/2 is out of whack not the AC10. Somehow I dont think the AC/2 is supposed to do more dps than a Gauss Rifle.

I don't think the AC/2 can do more damage than a gauss rifle - unless the target is stupid enough to stand still. My quad AC2 cicada is usually at the bottom of the damage chart at the end of the game, while my gauss armed hunchback can manage a better performance.

Oh sweet baby jesus, save us from the AC2!

Once I realized this wasn't intended as humor and the OP is vehemently defending his point....

well, I peed a little.

not proud of it. :D

They absolutely can. Because you can have two AC/2s for the same weight as one gauss rifle. I can drill through other assault mechs extremely fast with my dual AC2 Atlas. Even if the target is moving 50kph I can still put most of the shots into his center and side torsos.

I dont think its overpowered really. I just think its dumb that im using AC/2s on an Atlas instead of bigger autocannons... because the whole point of Assault mechs was that they were supposed to be the mechs that used the big guns like the AC/20. Yet im using AC/2s. Its just silly.

If you stand still against an AC/2 mech, then ya it's op..... but not cause of the gun. It's cause of the meat sitting in the tincan taking the hits.

IF they stand still in front of my AC20 cat, its instant death. And more salvage from the headshot :D

I'm more worried about the Jagermech and the Cataphract that will have 4 gauss at 60 damage. 1 shot just about anything short of an atlas without the need to aim for the cockpit.

cant have quad gauss on either of those mechs. the ballistics are all in the arms and 2 gauss wont fit in one arm.

Except for the fact the AC/2 in MWO has absolutely nothing in common with the AC/2 in tabletop other than the name. In fact its not really even an AC/2 anymore because its characteristics are radically different. Instead of being a very low dps/very low heat weapon, its a very high dps/high heat weapon.

lol The Ac2 i think got a ninja NERF! since last patch the cockpit dont shake near as much and the damage seems totally cut down. I use to run a 3 ac2 hunchie for sh*ts and giggles, but since patch and a few dozen drops with it, it seems a bee sting now.

cockpit shake was removed on all weapons. and their damage was not cut down. they still do more dps than any other weapon besides the AC/20.

Uh, DPS isn't the be-all-end-all of statistics, you know?

If all you do in this game is walk up to someone and you just kick each other's shins till one of you dies, then yeah, the AC/2 is going to be fairly competent at making them go poof. You see, the AC/2 is a sandpaper cannon. It wears an opponent down over time. This is fine and dandy in the aforementioned "foot to shin, repeat" scenario on planet bowling ball, but the reality is that the AC/2 is a damage-over-time gun, like a laser. You can't really use the AC/2's full DPS unless you hit with every shot, holding down the trigger.

Besides, autocannons desperately need a buff to be really usable. I'm glad that at least the AC/2 isn't bad in a game for once!

Edit:
I missed this gem:

But my tabletop game!

I am thrilled that MWO is the first Mechwarrior game that has actually made the AC2 useful.

I was actually hoping there might, just might, be a grain of truth to this, just because it would be hilarious.
