Step 1: don't retaliate
Step 2: file support ticket with their name and time of the match
Step 3: hope they enjoy their temporary ban.

ohh, I just wish they wouldn't all go to different points on the map. I never heard anyone say 'spread out' in a Mechwarrior game.

If you're going to retaliate against a more than likely accidental weapons firing, that's the risk you're going to take.

It wasn't the ideal response, to speak the least of it.
I've at times been pushed into critical condition by friendly fire, but I've never actually responded to it with aggression; you should have simply alerted the responsible team mate through the chatterbox - we all make mistakes, whatever you might think.

if you're gonna retaliate, might wanna make sure you can back it up, lol

when I get 'stupid' FF, I just damage them the same way they damaged me. If they grazed my leg, I graze theirs, etc.

I think the whole "tattle on accidental friendly fire to support@mwomercs" is way overboard. fix your own problems when you're able to instead of relying on a nanny.

Like everyone has said, don't respond. I've accidentally misfired before, but apologized afterward...at the same time, i've had trigger happies hit my poor COM in the back. Not fun.

Best thing you can do is tell them to watch their fire, and if it persists, or if they say the equivalent of go climb a tree, then report them, and have fun ;)

Hah I think this should be posted under the idea section. What you need is a car horn instead of a laser to vent your displeasure.

Meh, not sure the guy in the Atlas was any more an ***** that the OP. He may not have even realized he shot you then you turn around and shoot him for what seems to him as no reason. You gotta think in these situations. The vast majority of people out there are not going to deliberately shoot you if they're on your team. It's like in hockey... never retaliate because you'll be the one getting the penalty.

So... he may or may not have fired accidentally yet you shot him on propose? While it's an understandable reaction, you called doom upon yourself willingly with a very bad decision. And against an atlas too... Next time warn them verbally (we have a chat, although a poor one) or stay silent and report him if you so wish to. Shooting back always ends up badly for everyone.

Protip: With lag bullets, a lot of friendly fire is never even registered on the offending party's screen. While they register a clear miss (lasers flying off into the sunset and looking pretty), the server may record damage to you and they'll never even know.

This is one reason why I don't throw space laser disco parties at the beginnings of matches any more.

What is with all the people recommending that another player gets reported for a single (very likely accidental) friendly fire incident? Poor MWO support must feel like babysitters.

Heh, somehow these friendly fire issues avoid me almost completely. ;) Over the course of several thousand games (since the start of the CB) it happened less than a dozen times.

I wait for the apology. If none is forthcoming I'll fire a volley into his leg. if he shoots back I'll proceed to blow the whole leg off.

1st - we never know if it's an accident
2nd - we never know if it's the 1st time
3rd - it's up to the would-be reporter
4th - it's up to the support to, perhaps, keep an eye at the player.

There's 2 solution:
- ignore (most likely and perhaps wiser)
- report

People merely pointed out the possibilities of action.
What's up with all the people commenting that others should not list what can be done to "solve" an issue... in this case, an incident/accident?

Edit: Ohh! New comic... awesome! XD

FF isn't the answer to your problems unless, as that Atlas did, it is returning intentional FF. OP's just mad because he got slagged after doing something stupid. I see only one dumb pilot in this scenario and he isn't in the Atlas.
