I would like to see them implement a training room similar to what World of Tanks has, that would be my sweet spot.

The fact that this is not in game already concerns me far more then any other bug, problem or decisions made by PGI so far

It's badly needed, and soon. It's something that can make or break the game. There's already advertisements out on various news sites and such to come and play this for free, but if the New Player experience doesn't get a lot better, then retention of players will be low - and lots of people who try it won't come back to try it again when things improve.

An in-game tutorial of some sort needs to be a major priority.

An in game tutorial makes sense for many, many obvious reasons, and would add instant value to a new player's experience.


And a practice arena also would add value both to new players and to folks that have been there from day 1 of CB.
As a member of a merc corp, having a practice field for us would be of immeasurable value.

Even as a lone wolf or a small group player, being able to drop into a map and test fire weapons, test mech loadout/designs, and basically experiment with stuff so your don't get your face shot off while you're fiddling with something makes a ton of sense.


Please spend development cycles on an in-game tutorial and a practice ground instead of developing a 3rd person view that no real fan of this lore or of these games would actually want.

AWESOME IDEA!

A live tutorial, so easy to do! And training grounds, so pre-mades dont stomp the new players trying to have some fun!

Creating a training ground would be no more code intensive than when they need to code larger maps for the planned community warfare and the larger 12V12 matches. Training would simply be another "mode" of combat where either everyone is on the same team, the drop lead can assign sides as needed, or everyone is considered independent.

I play a game called World War II Online. It is a MMOG WWII simulator. The game has been around for a long time and from day one of release, they have had an offline training area where you could spawn in as a vehicle or infantry and setup your controls, practice on static targets, and generally just practice moving around. They also had a training server for groups to log in and practice (damage turned off.)

I don't claim to be a programmer, but how hard would it be to have an offline option, even using one of the maps, that people could load in to and play around with their mechs? That would at least give new players a place to figure out the basics, map weapons, figure out heat concerns etc.

As far as online training area, let's hope that once community warfare goes in and players have options on where to play, that a training area will be an option.

offline practice mode would be awesome, even if it's just a range with targets and a course to run.

I don't care even if it's just an empty map with nothing to do, just let me practice without buying the mechs AND screwing other peoples games (multiplayer is no place to test stuff out, it impacts other peoples playing experience)

My view is give a training grounds area, with a course a new player can use to learn how to pilot, aim and target in 1st person. We can also use this area to test new builds.

This would be a much better option than having 3rd person and 90% of community dont want

The real question is about priority. To me, 3rd person view should be much less urgent than an in-game tutorial or a practice mode.

Both are needed. The stop gap right now of the you tube videos doesn't accomplish the need for in game training that you can drop into with a large number of your closest friends, or alone if you want, to train and test without affecting your stats. 30 to 60 minute time limits.

I'd rather them spend time on developing the game further than adding this for new players who are to damn lazy to read through the command list and the tons of user guides already in place. Not to mention the video the devs put up.

WWIIOnline is a great game, I first played that game on my K62-550 with a TNT32 card......that's how long it's been around.

The offline mode from WWIIonline was exactly what I was thinking in my post

A REAL set of in-game tutorials and a practice area have been asked for many times. Instead we're going to be getting 3RD-person camera because the other stuff would have been too hard.

With all the work they'll end up having to do for this "secondary game mode". They might as well just give us the tutorials and practice area.

Arena means fighting more then one person, not NPCs.

I want an arena like Solaris.

I do want a series of maneuver courses with some static targets for people to practice. This being no cash and xp from doing the courses. It only being to help people learn to drive their mech. You want to practice shooting real targets, get in a game and play.

I do! I'm tired of the new players fired at my back in the starting area. My poor Centurion isn't that armed like the heavier mechs such as in Atlas! :)

I could understand the lack of ingame tutorial during closed beta, where the player base knew what they were getting into and were very likely to be veteran players from previous mechwarrior games, but not anymore.

Backshooters are getting really tiring, first thing I do nowadays is getting as far as possible from any team member I have, but too often the shot comes in first seconds of the match. Yesterday we had a team member who died around 30 seconds to the match from overheating while trying to kill me. Top that.

The tutorial should not just be in the game, it should be MANDATORY to pass before letting new players into game with others.
