Bottom line, the game is broken....

Many of us paid money for a game that right now has about a 50/50 chance the guy your shooting at won't take any damage.

Like those above me I've "searched" for the hitbox on the laggers and found nothing.

HEY, whats canadian law say about paying for a service, "functioning game" and not recieving it ? the law doesn't stipulate beta, or not finished yet. Judges apply the law exactly as written, there are no BETA cars, or BETA toasters. You pay money for something and it doesnt work... IF the game is broken and can be demonstrated to be broken, YOUR GUILTY.

We don't want new super high res maps when ON that map all we can do is make lots of pretty sparks DOUBLE GAUSSING the armor of runners and DO NO DAMAGE.

I just played a game where i alphastiked a jenner in my atlas. His ping was 83ms mine was 67ms. He was shutdown overheated, i was stopped not moving AT ALL 23 meters from him.

I hit him dead center torso with a 65 damage alpha.

It registered ZERO damage.

WTF

when ever a mech is going full speed and over heats, he rollerskates forward about 2 mech spaces. however, YOU don't see this. YOU see the last place where he shut down. And thus, you aim there, but he won't actually be there. I think you might recall that when he powered up, he teleported a mech or two foward and ran off. If you see this happen again, aim a mech or two lengths infront of the direction he was traveling and you'll nail him.

No chance for hit. Anybody see this?
My ping is 200-300 and 200-300 of that lights... wrong way mr programmer!

To be honest. I have not played as much I'd like to MWO lately, just because it seems more like dice casting simulator than skill based mech simulator because of all the warping and hits that are not registered.

And frankly I am starting to get pissed of because the game is in Open Beta, where game should be playable and representing the final product and not a dice casting simulator. I am a fan boy and I have been very patient, but this issue have been know far to long to be forgiven on the basis that "they are working on it"!

My only idea would be farm it out, contract more programmers. They have 5 mil from founders alone they have some money to invest in programming of thats what it takes to get the job done.

And honestly since the netcode in DNF is total crap i think waiting for PGI to fix it themselves might take years, so farming it out might be a good idea.

You mean something like this: https://home.eease.c...?id=1416771&t=1 perhaps?

Third person view and netcode should both be programming tasks, one would think they are both done by programmers, therefor the same personnel could do either/both.

Pssst, excuse me. Your ignorance is showing ...

A Network Engineer primarily works with networking hardware, and the configuration, planning and support of such.

Oh, nevermind. I thought it was obvious that software engineers were the topic of this thread. Or did you think Jun was really talking about a cable plugger?!

The only thing funnier than someone threatening legal action is when it turns out that person is crying cus he cant hit things in his gausscat.

Normally I wouldn't add anything, but this evening for the first time I got so annoyed at emptying shot after shot into light mechs who weren't even moving across my field of view (eg, they were coming straight at me or running straight away) with no discernible effect. I gave up and fitted out my Jenner, now I'm a horrible person too, I hope you're happy *sniff*.

Well, technically you did not.
You invested in a game with the full knowledge it is a beta with the HOPE it will be good. It's always a risk.
You also paid for a mech with a cash bonus built in, a pile of MC and a badge - That was all.

The engine NEEDS fixing but the big "welcome to the BETA" is rather clear that they are not finished.

When that message is removed and the game is still broken then I'll complain.

yea I've started to dislike playing myself lately. Tonight I've been hitting fast movers with shots that sail over their heads or far ahead of where i actually aimed and had to watch an atlas rake a cicada with 4 lpls about 4 times all landing center/left torso the cicada killed him and walked off then his arm exploded... I stood off against a gauss cat in my troll k2 4 erppc we both fire nothing happens so we head towards cover and we both die from eachothers headshot (we both had a big laugh over that XD) its a little out of control right now and i have ~60ms ping it doesnt happen all the time but i'd like to have more consistency lol

all i know is im taking a vacation till tuesday i hope they fix atleast some of the problems by then

yeah .. you have 60ms ping and you have lag .... think how we are here in europe with our 150-200ms ping ..

but the rest is right, that's need to be fix asap before all other patch add content.

They have a job offer open for a network engineer.

So obviously the have massive problems fixing it at the moment. I don't expect a timely solution to this problem.

When I imagine PGI's network programming "team", I imagine one overworked, inexperienced guy straight out of college, out of his depth with an incredibly annoying and difficult task who was told that he just the first hire for that section of the company and that new, more experienced folks to fill out that section were coming in the next month or so to help him out. Twelve months later, his task hasn't gotten any easier and those new hires are still nowhere to be seen.

I'm probably way off the mark, but this is picture my mind conjures up whenever I think of the netcode in this game ;)

lol no see its the opposite I hit people AHEAD of where i fire and i hit people who I'm 100% sure Ive missed my point is even with low ping weird stuff happens

Game can be completely unplayable. If you don't black screen or crash to desktop you can shoot a Jenner running circles around you in the cockpit time and time again and no damage gets done. If you then over heat some times you power back up with the red overlay still on top and can't aim. Then you die and your observing screen gets the motion blur stuck on so you can't see anything.

These bugs are nothing new, why is it taking so long to get them addressed. I don't give a damn about new stuff as long as the old stuff works first!

A network engineer is not a cable plugger. You have no freakin idea...

I disagree, I believe the netcode was better before the mid sept patch when they added the new engine. Both firing delay and hit detection was alot better pre new engine patch.

I actually think the netcode has got worse since then.

I believe reverting to the old engine till they sort out the netcode would not be a bad idea.

Except we don't know what else might get broken or affected by reverting to the old engine.

I'm assuming they changed engines for more reasons than just the net code. We just have to be patient that the guys working on it can catch up and fix it.

If anything, we on this side of the globe need it more. Lead fire at 600 ms is insane.

Really? What's the difference?

In any case, if you go to the actual application, it says "Software Engineer - Lead Network Programmer". What now?!

Theirs a massive difference between a coder and a networker. The fact you don't know the difference proves that you lack sufficient knowledge to actually enter this debate.

They have been saying that for 3 months at least, i have no doubt they are working on it but think they need to move it up the priority list. The rest of the game and content is irrelevant if we cant play it due to crap netcode.

true words...

but i think they cant fix it. either lack of skills or they cant take it to the top because they need to invent more mechs for more money.. no clue.. soon i dont care anymore.. everyday i play less matches because i just getting angry with this crap game ( not the content or gameplay.. just the damn net and programcode )

Why don't all the ArmChair Network Engineers\Programmers around here write up some Solid Code and send it in to PGI. Take you y'all, what?, a couple days and then we can move the f$&* on. ;)

hell if it was a dice casting simulator it would be infintely better than what we have at the moment.
