I have an idea make machine guns 1/3 hard point so you can mount up to 3 per hard point slot. It would fix there dps and it would be cool.

Somehow I'm thinking that being able to to do 18 DPS with 4.5 tons of weaponry might be a little broken...

Maybe 1/2, but not 1/3.

I'd say wait to see how much they get buffed damage-wise. If it's only up to .6 dps or something, you'll have a point, though I think half a hardpoint would be more balanced.

If they get buffed up to around .8 dps, I don't think this would be needed.

This wouldn't fix much, they would still be very much not worth their weight. There's a damage change to come soon according to the devs, let's see how it works out.

They're buffing MG's, and effectively we have MG arrays due to convergence (ie; all bullets from MG's in the same body location hit the same part of the target rather than each MG hitting a different part or missing on its own).

Actually, it's not. There's two canon mech designs that mount a dozen MGs. The Juggernaut (http://www.sarna.net...28BattleMech%29) which uses them in an anti-mech role to make up for it's lack of melee ability due to missing hands, and the Piranha (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Piranha) which uses them as it's primary weapon, and is focused toward taking out infantry and small vehicles, though anyone who's ever played with/against them in tabletop can tell you that they're a right pain to deal with using other light mechs as well, and a few of them can strip most of the armor off a medium in just a couple turns.
