Because that's how it is in every single f2p game ever.

You want more character slots? Make a new account, or buy more with cash.

Or, like in WoT, you get free ones every year. Everytime a new nation is added and everytime there's a tree rework and tech splits you can get new garage slots. I got like 5-6 free ones. Never spent a cent on the game.

Because MC is acquired by paying cash, wich means MWO keeps running. They're not a necessity, but they are nice to have, so it is justifiable to pay for them.

And it's justifiable to keep the game afloat, they dont get money for click ads you know. and i sure hope they don't have to resort to this kind of revenue.

Because they figured something that costs the same as a soda at a gas station wouldn't be a financial hardship on anyone and would allow them to make some money.

Silly them.

Seriously I probably drop more change in a year than a couple of lousy mechbays cost.

I would allow buying slots for C-Bills, just so damn expensive nobody in their right mind would pay for it. I'm talking 100 million kind of expensive.

I have no doubt there are *people* out there who would rather grind 100h than pay 1.5$ for that one mech bay.

It's only $1.50 give or take a dime depending on how much MC you buy at once. Some things in the game will (and need to) be for cash only, or PGI won't be able to afford to keep the servers up for us to play.

If you really would rather grind C-bills, then why not just sell off some of your Mechs, and re-buy them later?

You do realize they're not just giving away free garage slots for the sake of giving away garage slots right? They have to do that during the tree splits/additions or people would've abandoned their game faster than that Italian captain abandoned his ship due to being forced a tank they may have not have wanted while losing one they already have.

This is not possible in MWO as the mechs aren't connected in some tech tree where you have to grind from the bottom up. Now could they add free mech slots, yes. Will they, I hope not. Free to play games aren't free to run, they cost money and need it to maintain and grow. Depending on the MC pack you get, a new mech bay is barely over a dollar which is worth it considering how long it takes to grind the CBills to buy a mech in the first place.

I think a problem with having only 4 mechbays on free account is that you can only skill up up to two mechs. Later when they fix up matchmaking and we can see higher skilled battles, we can expect the metagame to shift every now and your "two" skilled up mechs might not match the meta-game making the game require paying 2 win(only in higher up matchs, for most of us it won't matter so much).

Although not the perfect example, imagine if League of Legends you had to level up for each of your characters, but you could only do this for two characters.... It wouldn't have made nearly the esports success it has today because the pay2win would cancel some of their legitimacy as a free2play game.

Now the answer I think is to scrap their terrible skill system rather than making additional mechbays free. But as a free player, I think being able to buy mechbays with CBs as an excellent idea. It lengthens the extent of grindable gameplay by letting you grind for more mechs. Players having more reason to play longer gives PGI more chances at 1) converting that player to a paying player, and 2) attracting and keeping potential payers connected in rl to that player.

I think the real issue with MC is that they don't have the cosmetic attractions yet that would attract MC payers(akin to skins in LoL). Because of that, paying players are clutching with a vice every bit of advantage they can get out of paying to justify their having shelled out money..... even at the expense of free players and any gameplay advantages that shouldn't be there(if metagame shifts to atlases, only paying players would be able to afford it every game hence pay2win).

Or you sell your old Catapult and put the Atlas in that bay. Derp.

And yet they could grind 100 million C-Bills for 100+h? no wonder they don't have a job.

To write it in a more polite way - it should be a free player honey trap. Anyone can figure out that for 15$ you get 10 mech bays which will last you a long time. Free players would start to grind and come to that conclusion sooner or later.

Then they would get those 1.5$, preferably earned doing honest work, and buy that one mech bay. Or 10, or a premium mech, or premium time.

Mech Bays are a source of revenue for PGI - I have no problems with this. Mech Bays do not fall into the Pay to Win Category and in many cases will only be bought by players who really get into the game long term. Works well for players as well as PGI.

Cheers!

Cry babies with no jobs. You can buy a 20 oz. soda for the price of one mechbay. Good lord shutup.

I thought 4 free mech bays was pretty generous, it lets you max out your pilot tree in every mech class, while keeping an old favorite mech in storage (instead of selling).

I would also like to point out that collecting aluminum cans (as I did as a youth), can can earn about .02 per can, so 75 cans, about an hours work will buy you a mech bay, clean up your neighborhood, and save the enviornment.

Exactly, MC prices for stuff in game are trivial.
