The view put it in third person only, when you are in spectator mode

Sure as long as team chat is disabled.

And what will disable Teamspeak, Mumble, etc?

Useless topic. Fix the rest of the game and then come to us about this nonsense.

LoL I pop into the game after months to see this..

As a person who wants to play mechwarrior based games, and hasn't bothered to use my premium status yet, I'll tell you whats needed what I liked and what I hated..

Pro's

It was a new mechwarrior game..

ok thats it for the pro's

Con's

The guy that stole the manga mech's causing the 'hidden' mechs was stil involved

**** poor Graphics engine/lag/ stagger...

The only complex, and not so complex shooter game that had zero joystick support I've been involved with in a closed beta

The seriously broken company inclusion, where newbs would get slaughtered by organised Lances, made it impossible to get a handle on the game (I'm guessing this is fixed now..as my other major con's...hopes) These two caused my ability to play and learn the game a curve that wasn't steep it was near vertical and made of glass (I'm predominantly left handed,is why joystick support is much needed by myself, working mouse and wasd isn't an option)

NOT the fact it was FIRST PERSON only

Putting third person in the game won't make learning this game any easier, putting in a PvE training ground where there are no leet companies blowing away the new girl/guy, so they have half a chance when they go to PvP ...WILL...your current idea of a 'Training ground' is laughable btw, watching video's is not going to help hand to eye co-ordination at all, This is why Mechwarrior 3 was so great, and this well..coughs..isn't

This move to third view option about making it easier for the newbie, is crock, you have close to the maximum level of players your likely to get, this is about increasing mech skin sales.

CEO ok guys, the sale of skins has really sucked, far less than we thought they would bring in..

MARKETING Well I did say they had no place as none can see them while fighting so pointless to create them, this isn't World of tanks or War Thunder.........

CEO Ok we change the game so they can see them..$$$$ caching !

Marketing Ermm ok..boss, community will umm..love that...

The sales of camoflage/paint is an interesting theory,... but as I recall, the 3PV idea got floated via the podcast prior to very much being available in the way of camo. That's not to say your cynicism is completely unwarranted... but it doesn't seem to match up too well with the time line.

I am against third person view... even in collisions. I hated when due to collisions, the camera would switch to 3rd person view. It was an immersion breaker. I'd rather watch my cockpit warning lights switch on while an alarm roars and a "IMMINENT COLLISION" message flashes in my screen as my onboard computer takes control of the mech legs to minimize damage while I see the ground approach through the glass, while trying not to fall from my seat in the inside of my cockpit.

If MWO is aiming to be a "simulator", I think 3rd person view should be avoided at all costs, even in circumstances such as collisions, when they are implemented.

FYI Word of Lowtax AKA GoonSquad and other Goons fully support 3rd person and apparently some of the MWO staff like GoonSqaud.

I do not support 3rd person.

If MWO need to make more funds just lower the MC cost by 75% on all MC prices or give more MC per $$.

Perhaps product placement/commercials in game.

More Content i.e maps, community warfare.

Who cares if the new real content is not ready/balanced or broken let us BETA test it so you can fix it.

My faith is limited as I understand it takes about a month just to put out a mech so keeping up with the canon time line will probably not happen.

Why am I not surpised to learn the Goon Squad supports something so easily exploitable. I mean we talking about a group of people whos entire purpose is to find, and make extensive use of, expolits in whatever game they chose to play.

Hi Mechwarriors,

So Russ let slip in an interview with No Guts No Galaxy we are looking into a 3rd person view option. It seems a lot of people are unhappy with this, so we’d like to explain our thought process here.

Cheers,
The MechWarrior Online Team

I don't want a straight forward 3rd person view... I want some sort of "Active device" that I could launch into the air such as a drone... that would gimme a 360° bird view. (Could be some sort of module)
The way I see it work goes like this:
You launch the drone, it goes up in the air and give you a nice view of your location from up high.
The 3rd person view would then appear on your screen in a little scare (think of the advanced zoom)
-
Seems possible.

Nice idea.
Like in the first official gameplay video!

Thanks!
I also forgot to say the thing should also be on Cooldown.
So that it can be used as a strategic advantage.
(Thing could either be used in pair with ECM or be blocked by it... but it would require ECM to actually behave like a true ECM instead of being what it is now.)

Keep in mind... the 'separate servers' solution/concept is something that some players have suggested... it's not something that PGI has indicated that they will do... as far as I know.

Nope, the devs used "We'll separate the queues so 1pv and 3pv won't play against each other" as one of their first conciliatory measures against the pitchfork-and-torch-carrying hordes. This then backed them into the corner of having to reconcile their claims that splitting the playerbase was bad in calls for Premades and PuGs to have separate queues, while apparently saying splitting the playerbase was fine for dealing with third-person view.

Quote

For all we know, they could be looking at trying to work it into the current 1PV games... and THAT possibility is what is generating a lot of the bile.

Indeed it is, and their "we'll separate first and third person" only fueled the furor, as people like myself pointed out all their claims about MWO being "all about first-person play," and third person breaking one of the "sacrosanct pillars of their design" then wondered if their assurances that first and third person players would never meet in battle was more of the same "say we won't do it to shut them up, then later we'll do it anyway" tactic.

I like this too. As long as it can be recognized and shot down. Or have some other counter mechanism. This would not technically be third person, but it would appease some of those who think they need it.

2 slots, 1.5t - 3t & 1t ammo for 6? 8? with a duration/range limit. Interesting. It has to cost.
