A drone would be ok. you can equip it with a modul or Command Console to get a view of the battlefield. However you just can move the drone and not your mech. If the drone is empty, dead or is cancelled by the user, steering of the mech is possible again.
NO 3rd Person View!

I would actually rather have a fully functional replay feature as apposed to 3rd person. That would be worth its weight in c-bills to those who like to review fights, figure out where they went wrong or right and perhaps at the same time save said replays and or snag screenshots at the same time.
Im talking multi camera angles + free floating camera..... you must have something already working as you have some fairly impressive trailer videos already floating around the interwebs

......people keep talking about spectator mode which I find to be as bad if not worse than 3rd person view if your concerned with abuse....although Im not against spectator view in games, it just seems that people are really worried about abuse of situational awareness.

- 3rd view must only use on training ground .
- 3rd view must only use with trial .
- 3rd view cant be switched ingame , and you have a 3rd view as in "wot" for aim ( no zoom aim ) .
Players using 3rd view can meet people using 1 person view ingame .
With all my kick azz idea , both are balanced and have a good advantage even for role.

Which, based on their practices thus far, doesn't rule out their having made this statement (which was accurate when made) then assigned half the staff to work on 3rd person from that point forward so they can trot out "That was our position at the time."

Overall I think it is a waste of resources that has the potential to dumb down the game.
