AM I THE ONLY ONE HERE WHO GIVES A @#$% ABOUT THE RULES? :)

*sigh*

Even Bowling has rules lawyers.

Does Solitaire have 130+ page forum threads debating every minute detail? No? Sounds relaxing...

I just don't know why PGI does not have a poll themselves upon log in to the game. Its not rocket science, if you get a small sampling here because not many come here, surely you would get a more accurate sampling upon log in. Right?

They have gotten their opinion from somewhere that 3rd person is what is keeping a large number of people away, just curious where that opinion was formed from is all. I am sure they had exit polls or took random polls from people at trade shows.

They don't need to, because the feature is being added whether we like it or not. Having a poll would be bad, because, as Pando pointed out, a majority of the players do not post on this forum, so their opinion is unknown, so a poll at launch may not generate the result that would support PGI's rationale for adding 3PV.

I agree, however its the people not playing PGI is trying to get. The poll should state at launch..."Would you continue to play MWO if 3PV was implemented in the following manner xxxx" That would give them an idea how much net gain they will get over the loss of current players. That is the number we all need to look at is the gain going to be higher than the loss. Also is there really going to be a loss in players? Players will still be there but the loss is going to be in micro transactions. People like myself will continue to play the game even if 3pv comes in but I will not set aside any money for it. Although this damn project phoenix is a tempting offer, who knows.

I still say that in order to activate 3PV you must type into all chat "I suck at this game and cannot find my legs" at the beginning of every match.

Then they can use the 3PV and I won't complain. :(

This has been beaten to death. Because it would either provide those using it with an unfair advantage over those not using it, or it would split the already dwindling community. Take your pick. I take it you didn't read the 130 pages of discussion on this topic.

You're free to do it if you want to. We're not going to stop you. :P

But, I myself would like 3PV for the eye candy it offers, especially when taking pictures and videos. And if it's going to help new players, then so much the better.

Then why not have it restricted to the training ground if all you want it for is pictures? Then they could have a totally free moving camera and it wouldn't bother anyone.

Everyone knows why people don't want it. Why do you need it to be in the real game vs other real players unless you're trying to get some kind of advantage form it. Again, if all you want is screenshots, why not wait until they implement replays, or have it restricted to TG?

Read all 130+ pages? HELL NO! I stopped at 30 (or 50, I seriously can't remember) or so and that was a long time ago.

Also, I wanted HIS specific reason, not the FORUM MOB's ( :(). Is that clear enough for you?

As for that unfair advantage you mentioned, are you one of those "MW4 3PV == MWO 3PV" folks? Because, as I said in another post:

MWO is not MW4.

MWO is not MW4.

MWO is not MW4.

MWO is not MW4.

Does it have to be MW4 for me to see a tag laser hitting my back from 3PV and know to turn around exactly to where its coming from?

Does it have to be MW4 for me to be able to see that light mech hiding just under my right arm from 3PV, and thus know exactly how to twist and turn to pull him into view?

Does it have to be MW4 for me to stand next to a wall, turn sideways, and see around the corner using 3PV?

Does it have to be MW4 for me to see enemies to my right and left in 3PV that would not be visible even using max FOV in FPV?

Does it have to be MW4 for me to be able to identify the weapon, and number of weapons, and the direction they hit me in the back from in 3PV?

Simple, I want videos of my Mechs in action.

I am really amazed at people who keep repeating the "unfair advantage" line even though no one other than the developers know the implementation details.

Do you want to know how to avoid these "unfair advantages" people keep harping about? Go find my posts that give an example of how it can be done.

Looked on your profile, I found no topics or posts addressing how 3pv will not provide an unfair vantage point compared to 1pv. I am apparently a lesser peasant with no imagination because I can't figure out for the life of me how a view outside of the cockpit will have the same tactical implications of a view inside the cockpit, though it could be mitigated for the most part by having the camera very, very close behind the mech over the shoulder while the player is near hills/structures taking cover, as I believe the devs said. Personally, the camera movement from an open field to being in cover would get on my nerves, possibly giving me vertigo in a fast mech, but as long as it provides no advantage i don't care if others use it.

And, again, we already see MWO going the route of MW:4 - Coolant Flush, Jump Snipers, Big-Alpha or Go Home, and - with 3PV - the chance of it going further down that path.

You may not agree with me, that's fine. I may even be wrong. But I'm going to keep posting about it to try and do what tiny bit I can to prevent that.

Nope. Besides, in other games (e.g. Shogun 2: Total War) match replays have their own issues (e.g. "replays" in Shogun 2 were not exact representations of the game that was "recorded"). Not that I am saying that MWO will have the same issues (see what I did there? :().

And if 3PV will also actually help new/current players learn/enjoy MWO, as PGI claims it would, then who am I to stand in the way?

I can't blame you as I myself can't find my own posts on this issue. The forum's search abilities "leave much to be desired", to put it every so mildly. But the gist is this:

3PV should be implemented as the UNION of your visual and sensor information.

If that basic principle is followed, 3PV will have no advantages over 1PV.

(And no I am not repeating all I have written in my other posts. But if I somehow stumble upon them, I will make a new post or update this one).
