3rd PV is going to BREAK the game, that simple. cannot be added to achieve what Garth or Russ would suggest and NOT break the game. cannot be done.

That TUNNELVISON™ isn't really an option, since it wouldn't change anything about the problem, which (according to the podcast) new players allegedly might face and thereby become discouraged - namely maneuvering the Mech.
That means, PGI wants/wanted to bring in 3rd person view just because they want these new players to see more of their surroundings, and thus feel more comfortable while steering their Mech.
So you see, TUNNELVISION® doesn't make much sense in this matter.
Imho, there is absolutely no need to reinvent the wheel. The solution is already ingame - Minimap™

I did say compromise did I not? It is as best as they can get without giving them advantage. Did you even read through my whole post btw?

R01D5: there is 0, zero, goose egg, nada, zilch, NO way to add in a third person view that does NOT provide any chance at tactical advantage.

I beg to differ, brother. Pardon my optimism, but there is always a way. Always. Let's not give up before even trying shall we? Or do you all so prefer the easy way you forgot how to solve problems... Now stop telling yourselves and the world how it CAN'T be done and show the devs, how it CAN be done.

as long as its not the over the shoulder or above 3rd person view. i remeber soooo many people cheating..... using it to see around corners and above hills. i think the mechwarrior experience is about piloting a mech, not remote controlling the mech. so for me this is something that should be done much much much later. perhaps after all the mechs and gear are in the game, if at all.

there is not. UNLESS: you pin the camera to the mech's cockpit, INSIDE IT, above/behind the pilot, so no external view is given, which, if you believe Russ, is NOT in line with this phantom group whining about not knowing how to pilot the mechs.

Facts: The camera will be out side of the mech, as per ALL 3rd Person View camera styles, this is above and behind the avatar in question, or offset to the right as in the game version of the Movie AVATAR by James Cameron. This gives the player who opts for this camera style/angle an advantage that the player who, opts to remain TRUE to what this game was advertised as, inside the cockpit will not have. Such as being able to see above a hill that would other wise block the view, or around said hill OR building for that matter at 0 risk to the mech in our case here.
Further, if you have any experience in MW4's multi player then you know the poptarting nonsense that became the ONLY way to be competitive, which, will happen here, no way to avoid it.

Of course I did. All I'm saying is, your idea of a 3rd person view can't be an acceptable compromise for what the 3rd person view is actually about. And I'm afraid that's not only my point of view, but also PGIs. I wonder if you did read my whole post as well btw. :)
I'm not your enemy, fella. Reality is.

Hey, its an idea. Well done. As for cheating, people will find a way to cheat with or without 3rd person view, regretably honorable behaviour is lacking these days, but I do see your point, solution perhaps: lower the camera as to again limit the view but still have a pretty good look upon your Mech.

there is an easy solution, and it comes from 20 years ago, courtesy of MW2!!!! Take a look:

Posted Image

specifically, look at the lower LEFT corner, the Falcon Hellbringer as targeted by the Stormcrow. That image, moves, showing the facing and health of the mech in question. The BEST solution, that does not break a KEY DESIGN PILLAR, is to implement this exact thing, a simple wireframe mech that moves in a black box. Only, to update for MWO, instead of being your TARGET, it is now YOU. It's back is ALWAYS facing you, similar to a THIRD PERSON view. It changes colors as the mech/armor take damage, but, it moves as you do. Its torso twists with YOUR torso. You can see the direction your legs are going in relation to the torso, and we ALL are happy, and the 1st person pillar remains happily intact!

Reality? Damn me for being a fool i thought we would offer some solutions or compromises again I am stunned by your inablitiy to adapt, and some of you wonder why the community is in decline... and yes I did read through it, It sounds like, all critique and no solutions, again. Not that I do not value constructive criticism, oh far from it, but so far you have, most of you, only given just that, more critique and, or arrogant dismissals. Please...cant we all just...get along. And lets make all sides content., and yes there is a way. There's my reality right there.

Ah yeah, the fact that they are even toying with the idea of 3rd person view makes me feel all the better about refunding my legendary founders package. Thanks team, I'll probably never regret that decision now!

Brother
Rejarial Galatan

You have earned my respect. This seems like an excellent idea.
This is the way men! Show the devs that the Mw community can adapt and think outside the damn box.
Let's show them that we can bring in some fresh meat for the grinder without acting like grumpy old gits!

<S> R01D5 <S> See, there are ways to help out that phantom group who apparently cannot figure this whole torso thing out, that do not, ya know, break the game! XD

Of course there are ways, I am conviced of the fact, yet there are those who see it easier, (of course it is) to mock and dismiss than give fresh new ideas in a, already, >back against the wall< community. We need more meat and if we sell half our soul in the process of doing, just so, so be it as long as the legacy of MechWarrior continues, so bloddy be it, and if we find the way to placate each side, even better.

I will give a pound of flesh, a gallon of blood to help make sure this game lives to what it SHOULD be. Blood and soul, flesh and time, if its worthy, it is yours.

So you did not read my post. Or else you should have seen my solution. :)
You also might (not) read this if you care: mwomercs.com/forums/topic/73569-sugg-alternatives-for-3rd-person-view/
Hell, you think behavior like mine makes the community decline? I get fu**ing insulted on the battlefields for not being a founder/premium, I got killed by "team mates", saying I wasn't needed anyway, they talk about open beta newcomers as "NPCs" and don't give a **** about our opinion, still I'm here in the forum making an effort to be conducive. And now I get insulted by a forum troll...
But well, it's my bad for feeding a troll like you. Chow's out for you. :D

Pardon me brother, there is not a single word in there that i point fingers to you I merely stated the obvious, you gave critique I accepted it, I gave critique to the community in general, not you. Do not let your frustrations get the better of you, endure with stoicism. As you can see from brother Rejarial ideas are possible, great ideas even. Now, shall we start over? Clean sheet. Btw i forgive you for the Troll part if you will forgive me if you feel insulted, however indirectly. as you can see I have 14 posts, this is probably, surely even, the only forum topic i will ever post because it affects me in a way which i am sure affects all other MW enthusiasts, After this you will have to endure my presence no longer on the forums, in any case. So you may feel better even for that, if you so wish. Thank you for reading I have reached my limit as I do not wish to be involved in this any longer, those of you who can bring ideas and placate both sides please do just so. Those of you who can't... well you have my pity. This is my last post, I will be seeing you all on the fields or even meeting you in real life I hope. Good hunting to you all.

There is nothing wrong with an optional (as in you can opt out and not play against it) 3rd person view as they described. I don't care if I'm up against someone using 3rd or 1st person the difference it makes is minimal if you know what you’re doing. BUT it is good for people learning to control the mech and learning the relative gun positions on the mech.

To all those saying 90% is against, you are completely wrong, you only have at best 90% of the active forum population, who from what I have gathered so far are very over reactive and significantly opposed to any changes to any system regardless of how broken the current system is in most cases. Hell, you have people arguing against elo matchmaking, wtf.

I have to say, the possibility of a 3rd person view seriously deflates my enthusiasm for this game, honestly. It seems to immediately compromise a lot of the strategic enjoyment, regardless of how it might be implemented.

If the issue is visual feedback/user interaction, that's a reflection of a need for UI overlay changes, more than anything else.
