So you lose combat power for information which is always a trade off.
Need big maps for this sort of info war, very big maps.

- I played MW4 single player in 1st person but online i was forced to use 3rd there too it was an option (yeaa right..)
- First time playing MWO I didn't like the first person at first. 1hr in and it was a none issue.
- I love how FFP adds to game play 3rd will always become a waiting mans game.
- Change my Field of view to 75degrees. WOW felt like in was sat back in the chair vs nose to the view port and I bloody love it (imo this should be default setting). For those that want to try this add "cl_fov = 75" to your user.cfg default is 60 pick any number you like just odd things happen past 80. PGI approves of this (they were the ones who told users how to do it)
Interestingly I've seen speculation as to why they want this and 1 great solution to the noobie 3rd person request.
- Esports, Russ and Bryan made a big deal about wanting to be an Esport. SO much so i reckon it was part of there business mode which the investors signed off on. Except one of our guys(sorry forgot your name) suggest Esports turned them down because of FFP doesn't make for good viewing... Queue the choice between breaking a promise to players vs upseting the investors.
- The suggestion 3rd be given to trial mechs is 100% brilliant (if indeed its true what they said about new players wanting it). As long as trial mechs can't be taken in 8vs8 premades.

Also, I'm angry because it was promised that 3rd person would not be implemented. When someone on either end of a business agreement makes an emphatic promise, it is expected to be kept.
Garth, you've got a lot of players who've followed Battletech for the better part of their whole lives and don't want you to screw this up in return for a perceived SHORT TERM profit by turning a pretty decent simulator into an over the shoulder shoot-em-up Xbox game for kids. The over-simplification and focus on immediate gratification somehow leads me to believe that's exactly where this is headed anyway.

Forgot to do this part before you posted mate, May want to try that again.
In any case, It would not affect as you (in playing in 1st person view) would never encounter a person using 3rd person in a match.
I think the issue here is people hear (and/or see) 3rd person and hop on the next bandwagon of misinformation.
this...but the real problem i see with it is splitting the playerbase...so in effect there will be 2 que's of players...one with third person and the rest...im afraid third person will be the majority and first person que's will take 10 minutes to find a game

Unless you're in their PR department, I fail to see how you know how many emails/feedback forms they've received. This forum does not the MW fanbase equal. not even close.
It may not give an overall view of the MWO fanbase BUT if over 3100 people vote NO and less than 160 vote YES I reckon this gives a fair representation of the feeling towards this.
Personally I don't see how 3rd person, while in control of the Battlemech, can be anything but detracting from the "simulation" core of the game. It was not pedalled as an arcade mech stomper, which playing as over the shoulder 3rd person will make it. The HUD's / minimap have all the information on torso/leg orientation needed to play the game. The player simply has to look. In the heat of battle it is easy to get twisted around but a quick look at the displays is all that is needed to get straightened out. I don't see how a full new display mode is required to make this easier.
Now having the Beagle system linked to control through the main map and viewed through a secondary display screen in the cockpit. That would ADD to the Battlemech experience. By this I mean, bring up main map. Designate area/waypoints for the Beagle to scout, using a range limit to stop scouting the entire map from base. The image from the Beagle's camera can be viewed with a pull up screen in screen view or (preferably) by freeviewing a display in the cockpit.
Just my thoughts.

How blisteringly stupid do you have to be to not grasp the idea that WADS moves you and Mouse Turns your view? I mean has this not been around since DOOM? Or is it really that even the younger generation of video gamers are so slow that it is actually a chore to use two hands?
And to all the Other Idiots who keep saying "it's only 91% of 'the people who voted', that's too small of a sample"... You Know Nothing of Statistics! NOTHING. Yes, the sample base is biased, I'd say less than one standard deviation, and that still gives a VERY high probability of the poll being accurate. The sample size is very good. Very Good.
And on a Personal note, I was getting ready to lay out some cash for some new mech bays in anticiaption of the new mechs that will be released... Right now, I'm not going to drop a dime until I see how this unfolds. If it turns out that PGI has lied to us and chooses to include 3rd Person, then I will not be buying mech bays. Or anything. Betray my trust, lose my business.

That being said...
If the dev's can wake up the morning of the final launch, look themselves in the mirror and say, "No, this game doesn't have the same broke mechanics MW4 had.", then I plan on still giving it a shot. If it resembles (insert random MW4 snipe fest video) in any way, then I wasted another $120.
But I firmly believe a 3rd view of any kind will destroy any chance at this game having long standing leagues associated with it.

As for the huge request about 3rd person:
It's not about an easy introduction,
or about immersion,
or about some vague of realistic views and what not.
It's about a huge community that as actually outnumbered the cbt sim "purest" in every previous MW title and likely would again.
They like piloting big mechy thingies with big guns and explosions over a beer and laugh as chunks fly off their friend's big robot thingies.....they don't want to worry about wearing blinders, nor often ammunition or heat. To get those bigs guns they either have a play a lot! Or help support both sides of our community.
Our mech fantasy isn't any better than theirs is--it is after all a game. I think many of us, myself includes at times, forget how small the purest side of our community really is. And we can be rather elitist. We are in part as least one of the reasons why it's taken ten years to get the next version.
it's amazing how few know the 3PV, for the majority what they want and find good, and whoever is not their opinion that is a minority in the face of a fictitious majority in the Back behind her, waiting there like a big Brother ... Maybe tens of thousands but would switch to MWO, when I got around that there finally is a game with only FPV, who are tired to gamble Consolelike Games, Maybe we need a Chris Roberts.

most previous games were designed to MW4 on to single player , only MW3 and MW4 has MP Modus, so how they come to that conclusion? there were many servers, especially from the big leagues at MW4 were designed only on FPV, they have any evidence for this claim, if it is nothing more than a manipulative lie demagogic.
see how many 3PV great, so you can see on BF3 and their Noob 3VP servers, where there playing most?

We are all frustrated at the lack of communication. But constantly screaming "LALALA I'M RIGHT!" just to pass the time is ridiculous. Seriously, be constructive, or be quiet. If your post is just calling someone else a name, or saying that they are wrong, or don't know anything, and it's unqualified with a constructive follow up...don't waste peoples time with it. It serves nothing except maybe giving you an internet chubby from self satisfaction.
