Adding a 3rd person view is a HORRIBLE idea; It will make the game unbalanced. The whole point of a single perspective view is to keep the game fair for all players, so as not to give any possible advantages. Allowing 3rd person view option gives a tactical advantage to players, obliging them to use it over 1st person view.

In other words, no one in their right mind is going to purposely "gimp" themselves by using 1st person view when they can use 3rd person view and get a full range of visibility around them.

I implore the devs to think EXTREMELY hard on this, as it will only negatively impact the game, without adding any real benefit. If they add 3rd person view, they might as well just get rid of 1st person view...And doing that would undermine what Mechwarrior is all about.

As long as those in 3rd person view get no advantage (such as the all seeing MW4 pop tart snipers) who cares how someone else pilots their mech. Never played 3rd person and never will actually found it much harder to steer and aim.

If we find that there is a relevant role for an optional 3rd person camera mode, then then would simply be an additional option that, if you don’t want it, won’t affect you. Bryan will be writing a detailed Command Chair post on this (he's currently at 40,000

If the 3rd person view is put in with any game modes that are 1st person it gives them a advantage and all will have to play 3rd person to be competitive witch destroys the game. I have played 1,000's of games that have 3rd person and all of them you had advantages playing in 3rd person as you always do.

Hey, I heard that a "Huge" amount of players are having issues with the Mech Lab. Wouldn't it be great to develop something for them so that the game will fuction as designed?

I also hear there are a "Huge" number of players who have issues with blackscreens, controls on a joystick, and 3FPS once they drop.

Why don't we adress those issues?

Who cares about a few people who suck at video games?

IF they suck at video games, I.E. can't drive a Mech in third person view, then they don't spend money on video games. Ask any of those guys who shelled out 120 bucks if they had trouble driving their mech.

Then ask those whiney kids who want third person if they spent any money. OF course they didn't.

So why are you going to spend time and effort on a player base who doesn't pay to play?

For all the people complaining this is a sim, they can't hve it, yadda yadda yadda, just take this into consideration: 99% of all simulation games EVER released on PC have had multiple view modes, not just first person. From tanks to flight to space to EVERY Mechwarrior game in the past. You people take this **** WAY too seriously. This is not life or death, its a ********* game. Quit if you want, I'll still be playing first person.

Apparently newbies get confused about which way the upper torso of a 'mech is pointing, and hot it's different from the direction the legs are pointing. It's a fair point fellow mechwarriors. So here's an idea to help the newbies, add simple iconography to the hud that idicates which way the torso is pointing in relation to the legs. I know it's technically already there on the "compass" but try looking at what Battlefield BC, BC2, of BF3 do for tank pilots.

It's there in the two arrows on the compass for one, and then there's the big dotted arrow on the mini-map that shows which way your legs are facing while the large view wedge shows which way your torso is facing.

So the real question becomes: "Since they can't figure out the two devilishly simple indicators we've got now, how many more should we add before giving in to the obvious reality that some people just need to move on to a game more suited to their skill sets?"

Having laid down a significant portion of cash towards the development of this game, I feel I should be completely honest here.

Quite simply put, I will be obtaining a full refund of my $120 and dropping MW:O like it's hot, should a 3rd Person Camera become an option in anything more than the planned training environment.

When I paid my money, I was offered a Mech Simulator Game, carrying on the MechWarrior franchise and traditions, while improving it as a multiplayer game. Since I actually handed over my money, I've watched that game be watered down to the point of homeopathy in a greedy attempt to make the game "appeal to a wider audience".

Who's running this show? From the outside looking in, it looks like greedy beancounters are calling the shots. Promised features and hardware support is now being quietly swept under the carpet and the Razer "Artemis" joystick thing is nothing more than a white elephant as joystick support is nothing short of abysmal. Lay off the stupid publicity and hype machine, you're building up to something you can't actually deliver. Instead, focus on what you can get done, build the *** MechWarrior *** game you started out to, and we'll be happy. Stop moving the goalposts around trying to simplify the game, you're fu<king up what makes the game work.

I don't say this lightly, in fact, re-reading this, I'm really very sad about the state MW:O is in, and where it looks like it's going.

PGI, consider this a warning; continue down this path and you will be the final nail in the MechWarrior franchise's coffin.

Every Mechwarrior game (except maybe the first) has had MULTIPLE camera views. Your argument is null and void, and demanding a refund for 3rd person view is just being a little whiny b!tch at thjis point, if I were PGI I would keep your money and laugh at you.

"OMG, they added a feature I dont like, give me back ALL my money."

Grow up.

New players getting repeatedly pugstomped with no opportunity to learn is whats driving away new players, not a 3rd person view, which will ruin the game for those who wish to play it as a simulation like me. I've had quite a few friends try the game and not a single one will continue to play. None of them had problems controlling their mechs, but going against seasoned premades every match while they were trying to learn is why I've lost them as in game companions ;) Much of the potential player base has been driven away by a match making system that puts new potential players/customers at such a disadvantage that they have no opportunity to experience the fun this game can be. Please don't ruin it for your devoted player base also by introducing 3rd person.

I am fully aware of the multiple camera views available in previous MW titles. Since you clearly didn't read the post, I'll explain it to you.

REMOVING THE 3RD PERSON VIEW IN THE UP TO CURRENT INCARNATION WAS "AN IMPROVEMENT TO MULTIPLAYER" FOR MW:O. WASTING TIME WORKING ON IT WOULD DETRACT FROM THAT, GOING AGAINST THEIR OWN WORD UPON WHICH I BASED MY DECISION TO LAY OUT CASH.

Block capitals so maybe it'll get though your skull.

PGI could attempt to laugh all they wanted, under the UK distance selling regulations, I'm fully entitled to a refund at this point.

Just to make sure everyone, well, actually read that and listened to what Russ said, we don't plan to add 3rd person. We're looking at what it would require of us if we did.

And looking into doing it... means you are planning on doing it. You know what would make everyone happy and solve the issue of teaching people how to play? A nice small single play tutorial mode.

You never said that in your previous post. Secondly, how do you know how much time it will waste? Maybe they have an idle programmer who's skills fit the need for the camera coding. Everyone is just freaking out WAY too much about this like it's the end of the world. This community here is THE MOST self entitled I have ever seen in 28 years of gaming. It's right up there with Diablo 3, and that's saying A LOT.

I strongly inferred it with "When I paid my money, I was offered a Mech Simulator Game, carrying on the MechWarrior franchise and traditions, while improving it as a multiplayer game."

Frankly, I *am* entitled in this case, I was described a product, I paid for the product. I'm now being told I'm getting a different product and am rightly a little cheesed off.

This 3rd person camera bullsh!t is just the straw that broke the camel's back, y'know? When I paid out for MW:O I also put together a PC suitable, and bought a bunch of peripherals, not just for MW:O, but it was the primary driving force. Since then peripheral support and the simulation side of things have taken a back seat to pretty much anything that will bring in more money. I'm aware they have a lot of other things to work on, but this debacle shows that they clearly have time to p|ss over a wall on this sh|t.

EDIT-- Further explanation.

Yep, maybe we are. But on the other hand... it is quite clear how to make us happy: give us the SIM that was promised...without any 3rd person view except match replays maybe!

Holy **** people (yeah blank that out).

They've said they're very aware of the ways that 3rd person was used as a cheat in the past and that they will ensure it won't result in an advantage if they put it in.

So WTF does everyone have their panties in a bunch about? This is the most over-dramatic, self-entitled, elitist group of people I've ever seen.

You are a crybaby, a thug, and a fool. You invested money in a cocept, you did not pay for a finished product. The fact that you're cying about 1 feature they're LOOKING at makes you a crybaby, the fact that you're threatening refund if they add it makes you a thug, and they way you present yourself makes you a fool. I for one hope you NEVER get a refund. I can't even imagine what you'd say to the company.

In a nerd voice: "I paid for a realistic ginat robot game, and now they're adding a camera OUTSIDE my big robot, that is not what I paid for better business bureau, now make them give me my money back".

LOL. Pathetic.

Ah yes!

Name calling, personal attacks, and outright bashing of other people's opinions is EXACTLY how you get people to agree with you.

Excellent.

The fact is, I'm playing this game because it's the closest thing to a mech simulator out there. If they make 3rd person an option, I will have to play in 3rd person to maintain equal footing with other pilots that are using 3rd person due to the tactical advantage gained by 3rd person perspective. Because of this, the game will no longer feel like a simulator....and it would not be the game I signed up for.

While other versions of MW had 3rd person and it worked fine in single player campaign games, it did not work in multiplayer games for the exact reason mentioned. There is no way around the inherent problems 3rd person cameras present when dealing with multiplayer games...unless they just intend for the game to become entirely 3rd person.
