If this game ever has a 3rd person view then I will be one of them
If someone is so bad that they NEED 3rd person to play this game then do you think they are ever going to actualy PAY you any money???

You're missing that around 90% (not a made up.. there was a poll done) of the players don't 3rd person. Honestly its more of an issue of 3rd person phasing out 1st person due to inherent advantages. 3rd person dumbs down the game... and most online games suffer horribly if you keep dumbing them down.
and you're missing that those votes make up about 1% or less of the registered voters and the fact that in MW4:Mercs the vast majority of players played in 3rd Person servers when it was just as easy to create 1st Person Only servers and when when there actually was a 1st Person server it was empty...if in MWO they pit 1st Person only against 1st Person Only and 3rd against 3rd there is no advantage...
But, all these points have been hashed over and over again, and will be hashed over and over again until we find out exactly what PGI is planning...ultimately we should wait and see, but rational minds don't seem to post here...

MW4 as merc was dead, as were most of the servers in 3PV, UDN with unlimited ammo and no heat because the big leagues were dead and most were changed because of all the noob servers to MWLL or completely tasks
splitting the Community is the dead of MWO

One of the best parts of MWO is that it is a 1st-person simulation type game. I hope that doesn't change!

Please don't listen to the console kids, that is where most of these requests likely come from. All they want is mindless run and gun with no actual strategy, teamwork, and communication. 3rd person encourages mindless run 'n gun by allowing for unrealistic views (looking around cover without leaving it, seeing behind you, ect.)

stop making contradictions please. first you say your considering 3rd person, then you say mwo will always be 1st person? you cant have both in this type of game. you either are going to keep 1st person only, or implement 3rd person. no need to beat aroud the bush with politician style doublespeak.

MechWarrior Online is being designed to put you the player in the seat of the pilot. It is 100% first person view only. Being the pilot is one of our key design pillars and 3rd person breaks that pillar on multiple levels as seen in many of the other 3rd Person discussions.
We will investigate 3rd person in the far off distance for special game settings, but this is very far off in the distance.
While we appreciate those who enjoy 3rd person, MWO will be 1st person out of the gate and in the near future.

If you can't work out torso twisting, then tough. Yes, a tutorial will help, but seriously? If you can't work out what the arrows on the HUD, and the markings on the Mini-Map mean without help, then you may be beyond it...

The Devs will no doubt be careful about how its implemented, meaning it wont be abuseable, and will test the snot out of it to ensure it is fair to first persons. Pro pilots will never use it in combat: your own mech would likely block your view. It wont be mech 4, and they've said that, but it will open up MWO to a bigger base.
So here's me saying don't knock it before you try it.
Playing mech 4 does not mean you've tried it.
No one here listened to the podcast apparently. It wont rain Armageddon, and if you don't like 3rd person, you'll never have to play in it. You say it will break the game. Well maybe it broke mech 4, but this isn't mech 4, its a new team with new improved ideas. Why not give them a chance to draw in those mech assault/commander players who arn't playing now? I bet they can do it without breaking MWO. Why on earth would you want to alienate tabletop and tactics players? We should make every effort to draw them into our world.
Everyone here listen in at about minute 47-50.

it will rain death to MWO because the moment they break first the promise that this game will forever be 1st person, that harms the company image and our trust, THEN, it will break the game play because it changes things on a fundamental level, and adds in tactical advantages to those who use it, advantages such as jump jetting up, firing a salvo of missiles, then landing. time in enemy fire risk = minimal like that. also you can see above hills, around corners all w/out risk to your mech. there is no positive way they can spin it. You want to teach the people who failed to learn how this stuff works? build a mother fracking tutorial and FORCE them to play it and LEARN this game as it was SOLD TO US. Not change it for the console crowd who, lets face it, wont be here long anyway, because of just how sharp the learning curve is.

3rd person in spectator view? This too, could be abused by fallen teammates. So it leaves us with the option of recorded battles and there the possibility of 3rd person view.
Just make a ******* tutorial to silence the whiners. Teach them how to play step by step, showing them (via external camera) how torso twisting works. But keep it out of the battles itself.
Although to be honest, how stupid you must be to NOT to figure it out after a few battles? I played MW, yeah. Dozen years ago, when I had no idea what a *mech* is. That is, I was a kid and found the game stupid. This time I'm a lil' bit older and find the game(s) awesome.

You responded without even reading what he wrote because of your emotions. He said, and paraphrasing Russ from the interview, "It wont rain Armageddon, and if you don't like 3rd person, you'll never have to play in it..."
How does what you wrote and I'm quoting, "and adds in tactical advantages to those who use it, advantages such as jump jetting up, firing a salvo of missiles, then landing. time in enemy fire risk = minimal like that. also you can see above hills, around corners all w/out risk to your mech." coincide with you will play in 1st person only maps with others that are playing first person only if you choose to do so, which, btw, is what Russ says they are looking at. No really, looking for your response...if you can answer how if you choose to play 1st person only against other 1st person only players how any of what your emotional outburst makes sense...
