Why would you even bother to use your laptop for gaming if you have another desktop that blows it outta the water? ;)

I don't understand why we needed our system specs for the beta signup.

Enlightenment?

Because if you have a 1Ghz Atom machine they don't want to waste a beta key on you?

but also because they can use that info to get as varied a sample set of testers as possible with respect to hardware variations

So they can find out how it runs on different machine configurations. They'll need to tweak certain things based on certain drivers most likely.

They want a variety of machines both top mid and low level to test with. Just because you have a super screaming machine does not mean you will get it. They need to make sure that different scenarios are tested.

That, and most betas want to have a mix of specs from lowest to highest. Better to see the complaints about various graphic card issues and frame rates before launch.

Ok, this makes sense.

I'm not familiar with PC gaming so I wasn't sure.

Will we be notified if our machines can't run the game? Or will we just have to figure that out the hard and painful way?

I think at some point we'll get a minimum system requirements and that's when you'll find out. However even though there's no official min requirements put out you can do yourself a favor and look up the Crysis 2 requirements and educated guess that it will be similar.

Most invites are sent out (usually) to test the game, itself, and generate bug reports and such, so the majority of invites will *probably* go out to systems that can unquestionably handle the game with manageable framerates (30+?).

When it comes to hardware testing, however, it seems likely that mid to low-range systems will get some level of priority in order to test extremes. Invites related to system stress testing and hardware requirements may even constitute a beta invite phase on its own, but that information is obviously not public.

I have a few comps I want to try it on. But for there spec sheet I went with my 2nd dairy comp as it is more on line with what my other friends that are interested in playing computer. So I registered with.

Operating System Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
RAM: 8,191 MB
CPU Name/Type: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+
CPU Speed: 2,392 MHz
CPU(s): Physical: 1 - Virtual: 2
Video Card Brand: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Video Card Memory: 1,024 MB
Primary Display Size: 1280x960
Multi-Display Size: 1280x960
Microphone Enabled: Yes
Language Setting: English (United States)
Harddrive Space Free: 92,188 MB
Harddrive Space Total: 190,771 MB

but have another rig much better

Operating System Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64bit
RAM: 16,384 MB
CPU Name/Type: Intel Core i7-3820
CPU Speed: 4300 MHz
CPU(s): Physical: 1 - Virtual: 8
Video Card Brand: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
Video Card Memory: 1024 MB
Primary Display Size: 1920x1080
Multi-Display Size: 1920x1080
Microphone Enabled: Yes
Language Setting: English (United States)
Harddrive Space Free: 1,045,000 MB
Harddrive Space Total: 1,596,000 MB

Then there is my laptop as well but I don't remember all the specs on it and its not with me right now. I really want to know if it will run on the lower spec comp alright though as If not allot of my freinds will not play as they can not afford new comps.

Im not the type that can run out an buy a new rig for the latest game lol I havent worked for 6 months due to shattering my elbow 2 times and having to have bones removed from it

What are the minimums?

You should be able to run it on at least low. Probably be able to play at medium with light to moderate frame rate drops.
