I'm looking for upgrade for my Phenom 9950 atm - what's about Phenom II heat management? Is it so hot as Phenom I was? Could you tell me, which cooler (and case) do you use and what's average temp on processor?

I see the same 120W in specs for Phenom I and Phenom II, but want to be sure. My PC case doesn't allow me to use really big cooler, so I have 50C in idle mode.

I ran a Phenom II 940 Black x4 for a long time and it did fine on temps. It's mostly about what cooler you have and what case you have. Proper airflow makes a /major/ difference even with stock cooler.

That said the Phenom II's are /still/ quite capable processors. Will they beat an I3-2100, I5-2400 or I7-2600? No, but they don't need to either. In the TOR Beta I was running a 480 GTX with my Phenom II and it handled everything like a champ, 100+ fps average etc.

The biggest difference I've seen with my I7-2600K is that when FPS does dip (And it will with any CPU/Video Card) the hit is less noticeable. So if you can slot a Phenom II x4 965 Black or better, go for it, money well spent imho even still.

Oh yeah and it worked decently well for Photoshop and such etc as well. The AMD processors are very good performers for the money, it's only E-Peen really or heavy 3D Rendering where it makes a large difference.

Beta testing earns you the right to try the game in advance of others, possibly helping contribute to its improvement via feedback and bug reports. If that isn't enough for you, send your key my way and I'll do the horribly unrewarding test. ;-)

Contrary to some opinions, most closed beta's and very few open beta's actually carry over stuff from beta into live. Being that this game is F2P however I expect open beta will essentially be 'release' unless they keep the cash shop closed at that point. Once the cash shop goes live however...

Would I expect all my work in closed beta to carry over? No. Open Beta? Could go either way.

As for beta giving you a founder/premium mech? Doubt it. Maybe a title.

I believe I would take a free key as well. It is an honor to dive in to a game early, even if it is very hush hush.

You got your freebie money wiped in WOT. You did not buy it, you where given 200g per day to test out the Gold shops and items. That was the only reason you got 200g per day.

As for Closed Testers getting a tank, that was great for us. I spent almost a year before the game even entered OBT testing WOT. I had over 20,000 battles by the time OBT started. (that includes wipes I kept a tally)

Anyways, like others have said, MOST games do not let CBT experience, equipment, or chars carry over into OBT and final release. That would be a very large unfair advantage. Since CBT is a very small % it would not be far to allow that lucky smaller group a vast edge over others just as eager to play. Now during OBT we might see a save.

Try the game before. Get some equipment in advance. Get good at this game.

I don't see a reason to give them mechs, they will already rule the field. :o

I'm looking to Phemon X4 980 Black Box (can't imagine if I'll need more then 4 cores and when software will be really optimized for 6-8), it should have more or less same performance rating as i5 2300. Btw my Phenom 9950 was quite good in SW:TOR - about 40-45 fps with Radeon 6970 onboard.

I am really curious to see what the premium mech is. But whatever it is the $60 package is well worth it.

A badge that was displayable on your Mechs would rock.

I'd honestly stay away from AMD for right now. I had a AMD 965BE @ 4.2Ghz and it was still a massive bottleneck when I was running a SLI 470 setup last year. So I upgraded to a i5 2500k OC'd to 4.8Ghz my SLI 680's never get bottlenecked and I'll never look back at AMD till they stop letting Computer build computers.

If your worried about temps then have a look at the Corsair Hydrocoolers. They are selft contained water coolers of which I am running an H60 with my Phenom II x3 2.9 chip clocked to 3.1. At full tilt running Rise of Flight or Cliffs of Dover it never goes above 62 degrees centigrade. Well worth the cost .

That's a matter of scale - while I'm not gonna use two SLI'ed high-end graphic card, I guess CPU wouldn't become a bottleneck :o

Btw. What you PC is made for? Something specific or just a reserve for future?

Yeah, someone already told me about corsair solution - guess I'll look close on this one.

Battlefield 3 was what I built this for. But since DICE has said the 2013 releases will require 64bit OS I guess I'm future proofing my rig..haha
