Go fast.

What kind of teams do you play with?

Speed is life, friend. The Atlas also has fairly horrendous Alpha striking potential against any decent pilot (read: NOT the guy in the hunchback who throttles down to 0 and stands right in front of an Atlas thinking his AC/20 will save him), and can't horizontally track worth a damn with all of those ballistic and missile weapons.

Is this ***** serious?

I think the point is why would any TEAM take anything less than an Atlas. You're never going to take a medium or a heavy over an assault, except for sentimental value, or if you have a play favorite. A team of Atlas' will own any team of lesser tonnage. Yes, light mechs zip around...until they get cored by 6 Large Lasers, 3 AC/20s, etc., etc. I think there will have to be some kind of tonnage limit, to make medium and heavies a real choice.

I would say serious teams will be bringing a lot of K2s. Maybe with some 4SPs as brawling and anti-light support and a scout of some sort.

But we will see.

For PUGing, the atlas is the best choice though.

'cause I suck with an Atlas and always get cored from behind, whereas I am decent with everything else. just my two cents.

2 LBX-10s, 2 SRM6s shot into the side of the circling centurian or when it runs into terrain. I hope you brought a few friends.

The Atlas is a hammer that you hit people with, it is large and unwieldly but boy does it hurt. The downside is that all it's big guns are stuffed in a large and heavy torso and are of all different weapon types so have different balistic paths.

My Atlas is utterly deverstating if allowed to walk at people and belt the stuffing out of them, but it lack the speed to chase and suffers from rather extreme convergence issues up close because it is so wide. If a target starts fleeing I'll never be able to catch them and in a brawl because of the wide torso messing up convergence and because of how heavy it is, I usually spread damage all over the mech because I can't get repeated precission shots.

Granted the lag shields don't help and the removal of knockdowns also stopped the Atlas from simply squashing people in melee, but the Atlas really needs small, faster escorts to pin the enemy down for it to really stand out, otherwise it can be swarmed and brung down very quickly and easily.

Currently I feel the only reason the Atlas exists is to make the littler mechs run away so your littler mechs get back shots, oh and to weed out the stupid people who try and exchange shots with it.

Let me illustrate my experiences in an Atlas

Alright, let's get this party started, forward march. Am I moving? Sort of... I guess. So... slow... bordom seeping in... oh dear god... molassas moves faster than this... alright halfway there... what? we lost? The base was capped and I didn't get to shoot ANYTHING!!

Screw this I'm going back to a mech with some freaking speed.

Atlas are a big walking barn of stupidity that everything can shoot with near impunity. One on one almost every other Mech can defeat it simply by using speed to circlestrafe it to death. Even the lightest most pitifully armed Mech in the galaxy will humiliatingly defeat an Atlas in MWO. The only thing they threaten are other assaults, really, or slow heavies that can't just walk away from them.

LOL, that would spread the damage out quite a bit, especially when you hit my left arm with it. The LBX and SRM do decent damage, but pinpoint targeting is not their forte'

I drive a 25 ton Assault mech. I agree with the OP. He can't spell Commando right, however.

Heh, ya in a Jenner not a proper medium unless you went xl390 and really gimped your weapons more than I did. Also 133 is fast enough for a centurion.

You must enjoy losing. Fast mechs benefit most in 1v1 situations where they can run circles on the heavies. Trying to do that vs a group of heavies will get your mech splattered on the ground.
