I was killed early in a game and when watching from a team mates cockpit I noticed the slowdown was completely gone!
Could a few of you guys who are suffering with unplayable frame rate drops test this next time your get killed early game, just stick around and watch from a team mates perspective in a fire fight and see if the slowdown sticks around...
Hopefully this should narrow down the list of possible causes for the PGI team so they can get a fix out sooner!

From other threads about this, it seems that several other people have seen this too.

Another behavior I noticed is that the framerate is going back to normal by simply pressing tab, even in the worst scenarios.
Maybe there is something wrong with the HUD?

It is not untypical for memory leaks to create eventual slowdowns of a software the longer it runs - memory leaks will also be typically identifiable by the applications memory needs to be steadily growing.
If it only occurs when you play the game in your mech, then it may be a memory leak regarding something you can do only while in the mech. Not sure what that could be, admittedly, since you also say the spectacted players UI - maybe something input related?
[/wild speculation]
