Trust me guys, I understand your frustration. When I played my first MechWarrior game online way back, I had to practice to get this down. The only times you need these tips are when the light mech is extremely fast or the light mech has a high ping(200+).

Tip #1: The first step is realizing any MechWarrior game online is not about who can take the most weight. It's about who shows their backside to the enemy the most. So drop that tonnage and add speed.

Tip #2: Your best weapons against skilled, fast Jenners are not LRMs, SRMs, SSRMs, or ballistics. You need lasers. Medium and up.

Tip #3: Lagshooting: With this game, don't expect the point and hit click fest of a FPS. This is a MechWarrior game. In this type of game you need to lag shoot the fast, laggy light mechs.

Quick example: http://www.mechwarri...org/trm/lag.htm

If the mech is moving, try shooting straight at it. Oh you didn't hit it? Try shooting 1 mech ahead, then 2, then 3. This is called lag shooting. If the fast mech is walking backwards, you do not have to lag shoot. If the mech is not moving at all, you don't have to lag shoot.

Dont agree. Best weapons are SSRM2.

Your post is useless and contains no new information.

This isn't 1999. Games aren't supposed to be about lagshooting today, gramps.

I wouldn't dismiss it right away, he's raising the point of lag shooting again for any new players entering the game that might not have seen any of the other threads, and SSRM2 aren't the only weapon good for taking out scouts. Raking lasers across their legs is a winner (and higher entertainment value) or even my personal favourite, plugging them with a guass hit (yes it can be done, I assure you). So I think his post was perfectly valid just misplaced.

EDIT: Correct games aren't suppose to be about lag shooting but unfortunately that is the reality of what we currently have to deal with until things are improved.

All good but you all forgot to mention how to actually tell if you're hitting them.

If your crosshairs turn RED then you're hitting them and doing damage, if they stay orange - you did 0 damage.

Also you can check the enemy armor indicator located at bottom left top right of your HUD. If you are doing damage - it will show a flashing armor section.

Time to fix the lag shooting. It hasn't been a factor in any decent game in years.

I like it. Maybe they do a module to get rid of it for people who dont like it. Imo its oldschool and fits the game.

I look at their portrait that shows the damage. If I hit them, that little picture changes colors.

Just for a bit of fun I did some maths around jenner speeds and latency.

Jenner @ 149 KM/H = 41 m/s or 0.041 m/ms

So going by my average ping of 100 and a pesky friend with jenner and a ping of 150 he is actually 10.25 meters from where I think he is.

so exactly how wide is a jenner? ;o)

I find the entire concept of leading a mech with laser weapons to be laughable at best, unless said mech is approaching lightspeed. I understand it is necessary with this game if you wish to do damage but in no way can it "fit" the game.

yeah it doesn't fit. so new people to the game won't expect to have to lag shoot. I hope my tips help the new players.

You know in what kind of games you have to lag shoot fast laggy enemies?
in a badly coded game.
Like i have posted in another thread, the fact that you had to lag shoot 12 years ago (many people used god.da.mn 56k modems back then) doesn't justify lagshooting in 2012. It doesn't matter if this is a MechWarrior game or any other kind of game. It's simply horribly coded, and has the worst netcode and hitdetection i have seen in any game during the last 5 years.

well luckily we don't have to lag shoot up to 10 mechs in this game, since we all should have decent internet connections. and hopefully our computers now are better than the ones 12 years ago.

i drive a jenner and i can tell u the worst thing to see is heavys and meds in tight formations with lots and lots of large and med lazers. leg strifeing is the best way to take us out and saying in your formation. add in the sneaky double guasscats your not expecting to line u up and bam your dead lol. the guy that said lag leading is old school do some real life shooting if u have a fast target u have to shoot where its going to be not were its at.

Yep he's right.

Lights kill other Lights all the time - It's our #1 priority job.
How do we do it? Easy - with lasers.
In fact, if all you big guys would just let us get on with our job (and not shoot us as you madly scramble to hit the enemy Light) we'd have a much better time of keeping them off you.

Once the enemy Lights are down, and if enough of you didn't kill yourselves with FF trying to hit them, the match is ours.

Against a decent Light pilot (like the kind you used to see in CB but are now rare in comparison to all the awful ones) S-SRMs are ok, but not good enough as they don't pack enough punch unless you completely boat them, and he'll just use your 3-sec lock-on time to hit you, take cover, and repeat.

Streaks seem good right now because of all the abysmal Lights out there, and because if there's only one Light left on his team, and he's fighting multiple opponents all with streaks (as you so often see in Pub matches when your whole team dies), it's relatively easy for you to maintain your lock all the time when you lose LoS, and fire at the opportune moment to cause that final crit.

I wouldn't take a Streak-armed Jenner-D into a fight with a Jenner-F in a 1v1 situation.

We should also fix the screen resolution to 800x600. And limit every player to a 20kb dial-up connection (founders can get 56k).
