XML via a web API would really be awesome.

I could incorporate it in MWOBattleLog:
http://mwomercs.com/...313-battle-log/

THIS!

Would love to have a series of battles posted, this is all after the battle has been completed.

Real time reporting for Tournaments etc would be cool but outside of that not sure it's useful.

This will lead to people insisting that only certain DPS weapons are viable and they have enough problems dealing with little boys who like to TK right now.

This....

Yeah. This isn't wow. The need for DPS meters doesn't exist. Plus, it would be easily exploited in regards to confirming hits outside of LOS and such. a Hit/Miss ratio per weapon type post encounter would be excellent, though.

And the first part of this.....

DPS meter's aren't needed. Weapon information is available out there, for people who are interested. Also, the red-yellow-green coloring for targeted mech's makes it more fun not knowing. How would a pilot know the precise amount of armor left on a specific area of a mech, in the middle of combat?

If the e-peen with K/D ratios seems bad, wait till a DPS meter is added. I can't think of a game that it turned into nothing more than an e-peen waver once introduced.

A combat log like this sounds like it would overflow the chat box with spam. Fast firing weapons (ac2) and weapons that hit multiple locations (all missiles/lasers that hit across the entire mech) would just flood the screen, making it even more difficult for pugs to communicate with others they are not grouped with (since the in-game voice chat is also only for premade groups as they implemented). This is a very bad idea.

A post-game combat log would not be so bad, but the victory/defeat screen already does a breakdown of most of the important contributions.

Yeah, None.If it will be a log file you can open up after your match, sort of like how EvE Online works, I see it would be fine. If it would be something along the lines of Borderlands.... No, I don't want to think of that.

I really like the idea of log files! :)

In case this is being realized, it would be great if the log entries could also be sent to a server of one's choice. Squads could gather their member's data with this and provide detailed statistics to their members. BTW I love statistics :)

The log itself should contain at least these events with actor, target, timestamp and map location:
* kills
* damaging + weapon that dealt the damage
* component destructions
* capping efforts
* match outcome

A very good idea, I just had the thought that I would like to see my hit/miss ratio and how much dmg I did with my uac5 going a bit over max range , what parts of me got hit and for how much.

It is simply useful information, It can tell you over a number of games which parts are being targeted and hit, if you do more damage a game with dps or burst and wich nets you more kills, get a better idea of what damage does your Lrms do... the analytical potential is LIMITLESS! :lol: .

I was in a match yesterday where it developed soon into a baserush and i did waiting hidden at our base to interrupt the enemy countdown.
I Spider finally found me and stepped up in front of me and i did place an Alpha of Laserlight worth 25 points of damage into its center a second b4 we won the caprace - it was the only weapon fire in all the game.
The endscreen said i did make 1 point of damage out of 25 possible.

A Combat Log would increase the forum-rage ten times... :(

A few people from my Corp recently discussed this and it would be awesone to have an after battle log to reconstruct exactly what happened to your mech during a battle. This would be perfect to calculate the optimum distribution of Armor, Case and Munitions.

This was actually something I always got a kick over looking at in World of Tanks. I didn't care if they were good or bad. I never shared them wiht anyone else really. I just liked seeing what I had done wiht a certain tank and what medals I had earned with it. It was all part of what I liked about the game.

I'd love to have the game dump a combat log of each match into a text file in the game folder.

Preferably with a time stamp of the match time, and detailed info on the weapons.

Example:

02-31-2013-05-43pm.txt

12:15 - Your Medium Laser (RT) hits WhatTheDerp HBK-4SP for 3.3 damage.
12:15 - Your Medium Laser (RT) hits WhatTheDerp HBK-4SP for 3.1 damage.
12:15 - Your Medium Laser (HD) hits WhatTheDerp HBK-4SP for 2.2 damage.
12:16 - Your HBK-4P takes 7.5 damage from the SRM6 of WhatTheDerp HBK-4SP.
12:16 - Your HBK-4P takes 5.0 damage from the SRM6 of WhatTheDerp HBK-4SP.
12:16 - Your HBK-4P takes 2.3 damage from the Medium Laser of WhatTheDerp HBK-4SP.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p takes 15.0 damage from the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p takes 15.0 damage from the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p takes 15.0 damage from the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p takes 15.0 damage from the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p takes 15.0 damage from the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p takes 15.0 damage from the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1.
12:17 - Your HBK-4p was destroyed by the SRM6 of FuzzyKittenLOL CAT-A1 (Engine CT crit)

I say yes, but only to after-combat logs... Infact, they would actually be in line with canon since we know that all mechs come with battle-recorder and ability to upload battle-roms for later viewing...

During combat a pilot's eyes should be up & out of the windscreen. Anything not displayed on the HUD is an unecessary distraction from that.

After a match as finished I'd love to be able to visit this site (since almost everything in MWO is server-side) and see as much detailed statistics as are possible. Some random things I'd like to be able to quantify:
  • Weapon hit percentage on a per-weapon basis.
  • Locations hit with my weapons on a per-weapon and per-chassis / variant basis.
  • Damage received on a per-weapon and per-chassis / variant basis.
  • Damage received on a per-location basis.
  • Heat curve throughout the match as percentage of maximum and absolute values.
  • Reason for my mech's death including weapon responsible for the kill.
These statistics would be very helpful to see where I'm doing well and where I need to improve my skills, with what weapons I should practice more etc. etc. K/D ratio is absolutely irrelevant, though a total of kills and deaths could be included for interest's sake. Win / loss by game type would also be very useful.

I also think that as they are now these statistics should be private. I don't give a crap about anyone else's numbers - I need to see where I need to improve. I can discuss my team mate's stats with them.

When PGI implements a log system I hope it's a very detailed one...

I'd like to see detailed after-match combat logs showing how much damage each weapon caused / section endured through the course of the map.

If it could be done with a real-time recording of the map and everyone's statuses it would be even better.

I want Battletech Center / Virtual World style after-action mission reports, possibly with xml / api access to the full log of the fight for processing purposes. But, we'll see what the after mission screen has, and how much more we really need to get this functionality.

Yes post combat and not available to anyone other than the pilot in question

Do not want the stupid RPGMMO DPS kiddies using it as an excuse to reject people etc

But to check over our own weapon configurations and what killed you great

I would love to have a combat log, but not something that shows up in game. The next step after that is to have little damage scores pop up over the head of your target. . . .

But a text document that keep track of damage you have done, and damage done to you per match would be nice. It would also help to track down cheaters and possible hacks if it was recorded properly. I.E not a simple "UberMechJock hits your CT with his Gauss Rifle for 26 damage. UberMechJock killed you".
Something more like "UberMechJock hits your RT with his Gauss Rifle for 15 damage. AC20 ammo explodes for 40 damage. Your RT takes 55 damage. UberMechJock killed you."

This way if people think they way they died was fishy, they could check their logs (and send them to PGI if they look fishy too).
If you see Player A hits you with his MLAS for 25 damage, you can say WTF? PGI take a look at this!

After combat not a problem, but in combat there is bound to be some serious information overload, particularly for new players. Rookies have enough on their screen already with the game's fairly steep learning curve.
