Sticking to the Timeline.

Now clans weren't even formed in the current timeline we are in. Now me and my clan have adrressed this situation as we have a merc corp made that was created in this era. Then once we hit the date that Clan Coyote was created we'll go ahead and change the name. The only real impact that this could cause is ruining the timeline itself and not making the current era your feel real at all. Who seconds that clans should actually wait till they're creation date matches up with he timeline. Just my two c-bills.

However, the devs are looking to open up the bigger merc corps as new factions that you have to earn your way into, but will never be player run. Also, we should be able to put what we actually wanted to call ourselves into the details section of our merc pages.

well i think people should be able to use variants like kell dogs and stuff... i'm not that much into that and that thread is so long to read all.
but if there are many that want to claim same unit name then because of fairness its cool to block them all, but i dont think we need more factions at this moment i bet we dont have enough people to fill existing ones.

Mainly SJR is about strong competitive play, a strong sense of community and making our own legend, all of which at this stage seems easier to manage in a Merc Corps. You may find that more clanners than you think like the freedom and tools afforded them by being mercs.

I do not think any of the factions will ever be player run. It would put too much variability and deviance in a game that has promised to stick to the history and timeline of the battletech universe. Besides, who would decide who is in charge?

It wasn't really the Clans themselves, it was the huge leap in Tech from level 1 to 2 that ruined the game (of which Clans were obviously a part, but the distinction is a fine one to make). It was like power creep on Venom.
