Now I do not know if this has been talked about yet but I have a concern about the Merc Corps, Clans and other groups. I bet that once the game st5arts people like SJR are going to make the clan right off the bat.
Now clans weren't even formed in the current timeline we are in. Now me and my clan have adrressed this situation as we have a merc corp made that was created in this era. Then once we hit the date that Clan Coyote was created we'll go ahead and change the name. The only real impact that this could cause is ruining the timeline itself and not making the current era your feel real at all. Who seconds that clans should actually wait till they're creation date matches up with he timeline. Just my two c-bills.

Well chances are the clans will be factions we join and not player controlled. They will be made available to the player population by the devs when the time is right. Just how important merc units will be controlled so that they do not veer from lore, the clans will also be managed so they don't damage the fiction backdrop. Probably

I suppose people become attached to things that don't belong to them.

All in canon names and all variations of them are being protected by the devs and we will not be able to create merc corps based on them. See this thread for details: http://mwomercs.com/...s-and-is-units/

However, the devs are looking to open up the bigger merc corps as new factions that you have to earn your way into, but will never be player run. Also, we should be able to put what we actually wanted to call ourselves into the details section of our merc pages.

well i think people should be able to use variants like kell dogs and stuff... i'm not that much into that and that thread is so long to read all.
but if there are many that want to claim same unit name then because of fairness its cool to block them all, but i dont think we need more factions at this moment i bet we dont have enough people to fill existing ones.

Well here's the thing we've been running clan coyote for nearly a decade now i think we deserve the right to run it, when it comes into being, We kept it alive.

SJR hasn't actually decided whether we will go clan yet; although roots are very much with the clans and it defines much of how we do stuff the decision of whether we want to switch from a merc corps to clan will be decided at the time and will most likely be influenced by what the majority of team members want to do and how much fun it is being a merc corps and having the greater freedom associated with that.. Glory and Methos have an action plan so that even if we do stay merc it won't affect our 'clan' type roleplay for those who engage in it.

Mainly SJR is about strong competitive play, a strong sense of community and making our own legend, all of which at this stage seems easier to manage in a Merc Corps. You may find that more clanners than you think like the freedom and tools afforded them by being mercs.

If people put half the creative energy into creating a new unit that they put in to justifying and pretending to be the canon unit they wanted they'd have something just as interesting and even more personal... my two c-bills.

I do not think any of the factions will ever be player run. It would put too much variability and deviance in a game that has promised to stick to the history and timeline of the battletech universe. Besides, who would decide who is in charge?

It wasn't really the Clans themselves, it was the huge leap in Tech from level 1 to 2 that ruined the game (of which Clans were obviously a part, but the distinction is a fine one to make). It was like power creep on Venom.
