Yes. We can actually use Google Cloud to push ISN updates to your phone, just like real news feeds.

I'm not certain it would benefit you as app developers, but you could lump sum monetize it by selling it directly to PGI so as to not have to deal with liscensing issues for artwork, maintaining the updates, and they could subsequently turn a profit by incoporating it into MC purchase packages or "getting started" offers down the road.

Effectively they would be outsourcing a project that is on their to do list at a time when they have a lot on their plate.

That's unlikely to happen. Besides, we're more interested in getting the app out there than finding ways to get rich off it ;).

This sound excellent. Would definitely use all of those features and I for one cannot wait to get it on my phone. Good luck getting it off the ground!

If you plan on making an ios app as well as an andriod app you should check out phonegap. I am in the process of making a similar app for my merc corp, but I am making it a web app so it will be usable every where.

We don't like using web apps for mobile devices. We understand it can be much easier to develop for all platforms, but there are many features built into those devices that we want to use. This can't be done with web apps, though what we do is a kind of hybrid between the two, so it shouldn't be difficult to port to IOS or Windows 8.

Here is a quick update. We're currently loaded data from the mech and working on the UI. I have some icons I put together in a relatively short time (couple of hours). Here is the process for those who are interested. However, please remember - THIS IS NOT THE FINISHED UI OR END PRODUCT! This is just a sample:

First I build a 3d model. I'm not putting much detail into it because it ends up as a 100 x 100 px image. I use a 3d image so we can quickly re-position them however we like for the next image, or use a rotating 3d animation (think MW 2: Mercs ).

Then I import it into gimp and strip out the background

Then I add the color shading and bring out the dark outlines

Finally I shrink them down for the Android app

And imported into the app:

Stay tuned :P

Updated the first post. We're still working on the paper doll for the mech loadouts and formatting data, but we have most of the info loading up now. We're hoping to have something to have out by Thursday morning, but don't quote me on that.

+1 for idea. There 'is' that Java program already, he wasn't as smooth with Android, perhaps a collaboration?
