If the Tamar Tigers ever stop hanging out with Elvis and Hoffa and come back, then them.

Otherwise the 4th Skye Rangers. They have the best whisky.

I don't think it's laughable at all. The LCAF could use more units like the 19th Arcturan. Concentrate all the well-connected but incompetent officers there and put them way away from anywhere with combat. They'd all network with each other and whatever, and we give them their own special ranking system that starts at "One-star general" and goes all the way up to "27-star general" and we don't explain ranking equivalencies to them. They'd be so happy and we'd solve our one major problem.

4th Lyran Regulars (Tropic Lightning)
The only Lyran Mech unit that had more Light and Medium mechs than heavy and assault.. In fact, the regiment only had one company of assault/heavy mechs.

The 2nd and 4th Donegal Guards as well as the 4th Skye Rangers are also composed skewing medium/light too, actually. Also there's a bunch of units that used to run along those lines (like the 2nd Lyran Guards, who were a regiment of nothing but lights) but they pretty much all got wiped out in the Succession Wars except for the four regiments I mentioned.

I've recently taken a liking to the Coventry Coventry Province Militia, which in 3049 was apparently still called Coventry Donegal March Militia. I like the idea of being geographically linked to something, which I don't think a line unit could really do. It seems to have formed as a result of Federated Sun influence as the FedCom grew together. Considering there's no FedCom in this game, should I even bother with the militias?

3rd Royal Guards, naturally. Why wouldn't you want to be the one royal guard regiment that can go anywhere and do anything for the Archon? We're the only royal guard regiment not bound to defense of Tharkad. We're the Archon's clean-up crew, so to speak. Our aerotech and mobile infantry battalions kick ***, not to forget the battlemech battalions.

Going with the Earthquakers here. Hoping the Community Warfare will let me join in the dev controlled unit and then see how high I can rise in the ranks, even eventually having some influence on their planetary warfare.

It is looking like people will need to be creative if they want ties to canon units.

Maybe just have a little patience... (relevant info bolded)

The Naming Convention; http://mwomercs.com/...378#entry227378

"Players will NOT be able to claim canon units as their own. When it comes to Mercenary Units/Corps/Companies, these names will not be available during MC creation. Trying to circumvent the naming system will result in the Merc Corp being renamed/denied.

Faction units are being handled slightly different. When a player aligns themselves with one of the major factions, say House Kurita, they will have the opportunity to join famous house units as the rank up by earning loyalty points. Some house units will require additional feats of excellence and challenges to achieve before membership is granted. Since these units are not run by the players, and we can reserve/restrict access to very active/famous units for sake of preserving the BattleTech timeline.

Our general stance on player run merc units is simple - create your own legacy! It's very unfair for players to stake ownership over a canon unit, and creates a host of politic and pr issues. So we're avoiding the complexities and edge cases associate with players assuming the role of these units by encouraging you to forge your own destiny.

This is our launch POV. As always, we listen to your feedback and ways to improve the system."

---

So we just have to wait a bit and see if we can join a prestigious House unit such as the 3rd Royal Guards that will be dev controlled but may come with perks that a Merc Corp that fights as if they were the 3RG does not get.

Patience has nothing to do with this. I am fully aware of their take on the matter. You may not have been around since the early days of newsgroups, but many elements of the battletech story were created by fans and later incorporated into canon. While I am not closing the door to the idea, I have no interest in being in an NPC unit with a bunch of pick-up-group players. We shall see how they implement that concept.

Many people have close ties with one canon unit or another. I chose to maintain that connection through creativity. Is it circumventing the system? I don't believe so. Will anything I do break the timeline? That's actually quite laughable. There is not much information on 3rd royals during this time period. I'm making history, if anything. Maybe they will incorporate some new player lore, so long as it doesn't interfere with key events. Other MMOs have done that.

Anyway, this thread is about waving the banner for our units, so let's get back to that.

I was in the Apache Division as well, back in the AOL days. Don't remember my game name, but I also used the name Disgruntled Bear when I played with a little group called the Farm Animals. If someone could rattle off some old Apache names, maybe it could jog my memory.

6RCT - Apache Division! Brings back so much memories and good times.
