I signed up for the MWO open beta about a week after it went live (missed the announcement), and I've really been having a blast, despite some of the well documented and discussed issues here (I've been lurking the forums for a while). I still hop in game, ready my mech and drop with anticipation. I don't really care if I win or lose, but the thrill of pursuing the victory and hopefully improving my KDR keeps me improving my skills. I haven't played a Mechwarrior game since MW4.
I started when I was a kid with MW3. I loved the hell out of that game and played it as much as I could (among other games), and even did my best playing online over dial-up. MW4 came out, and I absolutely had to have it. I played it frequently and with friends on a regular basis, up until it wouldn't launch on any of the newer hardware. That kept me out of the MW universe for quite a while.
So jumping into MWO, I had the base skills down, and it was like riding a bicycle. Kb/M controls were already configured the same way my MW3/4 controls were configured. The mechs were far more limited than the MW4 mechs were, but I like it more.
I typically play with my buddy "AdmiralBeran," and we occasionally play solo as well. So if you've seen either of us, you've probably seen both of us together. We tend to stick together, and work together. But, we're starting to find that we're somewhat limited in how much fun we can have not working with a full collective team. We're both eagerly awaiting the 8v8 groups to come back! On that note, MWO finally spurred me to replace my broken headset, and it should be here this week, so that we can jump in with other groups for some better group-play.
Also, I'd like thank some of the people that have really made the game enjoyable for me so far: Colddawg, Incenerator, ZoneWolf and Zukin. I have some great memorable games with you guys over the last few weeks.
