I`ve been reading about all the NERF STREAKS threads since last week, and i think complaints are off the target.

The only thing that should be nerfed is the Catapult A-1 Streak Boat.
(For non-catapult users thats the 6 missile hardpoint Catapult that only packs 6 SSRM2)

I dont see people complaining about how a Centurion or a Commando Streak them to dead. Not even Awesome's who might also run as Streak-boats. People asking for Nerfs to SSRM2 are thinking about Streakapults, and thats what should be adressed, not the overall weapon.

Yes i've played against them and is tough, but fi you want to make a serious contribution, say if what killed you is a A-1 Streak Boat or any other Streaking mech.

Nerfing the Streaks in general will mostly make them useless for people who uses 2-3 of them. Nerfing the use of 4-6 of them makes much more sense to me, since thats where the problem has surfaced.

Similar situation happened with the Quad-AC Catapthact 4X, many people complaining about how OP they are.

Dont get me wrong, some weapons can be OP if boated, but on a smaller scale they work just fine. Those special cases should be fixed, but its very different to state that one chassis boating a specific weapon is OP than saying the Weapon is OP.

Different solutions have been proposed around streaks and some of them are quite close to what i think should be implemented, but most of the Nerf Threads seem to focus on general stuff, rather than specific problems.

My fav solution so far is the increase in Lock-on time for 3+ SSRM as proposed on this thread:
http://mwomercs.com/...streak-control/

I think laser, missile and ballistic boats have a place in the game, specially on premades and group play, where specific roles are required and supported, so i dont think they should be punished.

But balacing weapon systems around boats-only approaches will make the game drift toward that alone, making Support roles (those who tend to use 2 or more types of weapons) inferior in performance.

If the problem is a specific weapon being boated then punish That Weapon Boating, not the weapon or the boating alone.

We should make the bad guns comparable to the good guns, so people don't see a reason to boat the few weapons worth using.

less nerfing, more buffing.

that said, all streaks need is less of a rocking effect (all weapons need a heavy balance pass on this) and less/no smoke effect on target.

They SHOULD be messing up light mechs, and if anything the prevalence of streak A1's is mostly down to some mechs being otherwise overpowered because of current lag/convergence mechanics.

Heavier targets however should have a much easier time of returning fire. Medium/Heavy let alone Assault mechs can often heavily damage or outright kill a streak-boat if they don't panic and keep firing - 6xSSRM2 is an awfully low amount of DPS (even with its LT/CT/RT spread) for a heavy to kick out.

The current problem with the Streaks is that they all land directly on your center torso, meaning zero spread of damage, unlike any other weapon in the game, which relies either on aiming, or lrms which spread damage across the mech.

Streaks are getting nerfed. It's in the stickies.

The pure number statistics on the streaks are just right. The real issue is the ridiculous amount of screen shake they cause a long with the actually explosion which blocks vision almost completely. It's like a rapid fire flash bang launcher with a movement impairing effect.

If they reduce the silly effects they'll be fine.

It doesn't matter that its in the stickies. Nerfing streaks is a mistake. They are not all-powerful. I easily defeat streak cats. The problem is the lights. Without knockdown, and with their lag warp shields, they are currently the most difficult mech on the battlefield to defeat. This has brought out a bazillion light pilots.

Lights are the 'flavor of the month'! We are seeing an upsurge in streaks specifically because they properly counter the over-popular lights. If you nerf lights, then streaks will be used less.

I know they are, i just hope they nerf using them in big numbers, and maybe the shake effects, rest of them look good to me

Well, since really fast mechs [100+km/h] dodge most other things, I think it's appropriate that mechs have a counter for them since tripping is out. That is streaks. In terms of them being OP, it's kind of silly to say they are, they spread their damage around now, unlike how they used to hit CT every time. I 'do' think that the rocking and the smoke and the haze and so on is silly as they are doing at most 4 points of damage. There are builds that counter them pretty well, probably the only one worth it's weight is the SRM-Cat close, though LRMs, and Gauss[phract/cat] can do the job pretty well at range. Overall I just think that the haze and major rocking need a nerf to just a little rocking and maybe a touch of haze.

The netcode should be fixed or knockdowns added back in, so I can kill lights w/o having to resort to streaks.

If they just adjust the DMG numbers or the A-1 I am going to laugh.

Why? Because SSRM6 will arrive sooner or latter.

The boating choice made me chuckle - in TT there is not even any hardpoints.

The SSRM should only go on lights and Medium Mechs and no more than 2 on any build.
Its not a prob with SSRM, its how many get put on a Mech.
Right now 6 SSRM blurs the Mech pilot sight that is getting attack and if you survive the attack the Blur dos not go away and you cant see and need to go IR to see to shot again.
Can you say exploiting a BUG.

With a atlas i got wiped out by a streak catapult, i know i'm not that good, but i was unable to do anything besides hitting him a few times. The fact is it's too light, it always hit center torso(back or forward), has low heat generation... leaving a catapult with 6 of these with relatively fast movment AND the jetpacks. While "he fly" you will be unable to target him with the strongest weapons while he is able to continue to dish out his dps. Also you need to watch your heat, alternate weapons, keep cursor over body parts ecc...while he need just to keep the target and keep the Mouse 1 button pressed :S
Maybe nerfing the heavy usage of Streak(let's say 3+) will make things better, but atm catapult + streak is a serious issue. Mostly becouse it's a totally nobrain. On the other hands, streak is VERY helpfull vs little mechs, and without them ATM with the lag issue they would become too much overpowered(and a bit they already are).
So nerf 3+streak srm!

Easy fix, remove shaking and smoke from all weapons. It's not needed in MWO...

If someone wants to boat then I say let them boat. I personally use a varied design to try and cover all ranges but I would never tell someone to stop boating if that is what they like.

many stock canon 'mechs are boats, and streakcats aren't that bad also ECM should be operational by mid December (should work like angel I say, completely jam streaks and force dumbfiring them)

or stay outside of 270m?

Man this game is dead before it had a chance. If you are in support missiles you are not into having fun in games. Games are fun because they require skill. People are quitting this game in droves, its very sad that every mechwarrior is ruined by missile boats. Grab a clue people, this is not hard. They came out with crappy AMS systems in Mechwarrior 2 Ghost Bear Expansion for a reason. There were lame players then and there are lame players now.
