What are you guy's overall tought on the Hunchback 4sp? I own the G with a ac/20 and the P mastered and I'm doing pretty descent in those, But I cant get the 4sp to work well for me, it feels like im not doing any damage with the SRM's what so ever.

I know they spread out the damage etc etc but sometimes when im point blank behind em it barely even scratches them..
just wondering what im doing wrong in the darn thing.
So I'm asking how do you guys play the sp? and how are you'r success with them?

Edit: I'm a legendary founder but I basicly just started playing recently, got 300games with different mechs

If you search the forums, you will find that SRMS have a wonky hit detection mechanic. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not. It is better if you consistently have a low ping I believe.

The SP is actually my worst hunchback (even worse than the 4J) mostly because of said reasons. So, I tend to view the SRMS as "backup" weapons- only fire if I need to/have a good shot. Some drops I only drop with 1 ton of ammo for an SRM12 volley.
HOWEVER, it does have strengths
-you can use streaks. These things do not currently have the problems with hit detection, and are pretty good
-fully articulated arms+insane hunchback torso twist+fairly fast+more guns on arms than any other hunchback variants
--with your basic efficiencies doubled, you can quite literally shoot behind yourself with your arm guns. It is not much, but with a big engine, you can make a very good harasser (and incidentally, a very good city fighter, which is possibly supposed to be one of the hunchbacks strengths or something? ;) )

I revised my earlier HBK-4SP LRM build to this, and I must say, I like it so far. Sure, 2xLRM10 isn't exactly a lot of DPS, but you can grind enemies down and force them back to cover, and, with the speed, you are like a horse archer, when it comes to assault mechs...circle and spam them to death. The 4SLs work well enough against single lights.

IMO the tube buff for the 4SP makes it the better LRM platform than the 4J.

The 4J does let you corner shoot any missiles that the 4SP cannot do.
How good is the XL working for you? I hardly try XLs except once on the 4H due to the hunch effect.

I often die from side torso loss. But it's an LRM platform, so the goal is to be never in a situation in which you could actually lose one.

About the corner shoot thing: true, but it's not really relevant for an LRM build imo. There are a few situations in which it could be useful, but the smaller hunches and the dual energy hardpoints on the arms make me prefer the 4SP. It's really a very weak preference, though, the 4J should work just as well.

It's really interesting that my K/D keeps rising since I switched from SRMs to LRMs on this mech.

-For Double Heat Sinks, any heat sinks internally in the engine (and added to engine if your engine rating is 275 or higher), are "true" double heat sinks- I.E. they dissipate heat at twice the rate of a standard heat sink. Any external double heat sinks dissipate heat at 1.4 times the rate of standard heat sinks.

Thats not enterily true. Only Heatsinks that come with the engine are true Double Heatsinks (max 10), every DHS added is only 1.4 no matter were you put them in. This was stated by the Devs and tested (if i am not mistaken) by a few members of the forum (its a pretty old one though can't find it now).

Helmstif -

I'm playing with the 4SP now. I think the medium lasers need to be small - your build is way too screaming hot. Here's what I have right now - been digging it:

Stats:
45 Alpha (can alpha appx 6x without overheating)
6.0 Max sustained DPS (versus appx 4.5 in your build)
6 double heatsinks (vs. 3 on your build)

Upgrades:
Standard Armor
Endo-Steel
Double Heat Sink
Artemis (does this do ANYTHING with SRM6's? I haven't noticed a difference)

Armor:
Full armor everywhere, except -1 on each leg (using your spread for the rear torso's)

Head:
Small laser

Center Torso:
STD Engine 245
2x SRM Ammo +Artemis (only 2 opposed to your 3)

Right Torso:
2x double heatsink
Srm6 + Artemis

Left Torso:
Double Heatsink
SRM6
AMS
AMS Ammo

Right Arm
2x Double Heatsink
2x Small Laser

Left Arm
Double Heatsink
2x Small laser

Legs:
Nada

So I guess the main question is... Were you sacrificing *HUGE* heat problems simply for the 55 alpha?

Edit:
I might be overcooled now, but I cannot think of anything to swap out two of the double heatsinks with - except maybe a size 260 engine (which I won't do because I don't want to spend the cbills)

Why dont you put amoo in legs because huchies get hit mostly at torsos

He's probably just been playing for a week or so and has no idea what's going on for the most part. I mean, he called my build "hot"....

UPDATE: For Grid Iron loadout please refer to 4G loadouts. The single SRM hardpoint is hardly ever useful in anything, might just as well ignore that. Also, with the new dynamic appearance and a 10-silo launcher cap, 4SP now completely outclass 4J in almost every way. Will edit the guide accordingly later on.

Hello fellow HBK pilots.
First of all I want thank all the people here sharing their knowledge here because its been incredible helpful and interesting to read  And I especially thank Helmstif for posting this Hunchback Guide. It's great!

I've been playing MWO for about 3 wks now. I started with the HBK-4G(F) and after "learning" HBK tactics (hit & RUN & then come back and hit em again, preferably in the back of the head) I think I really like this mech despite the glaring weaknesses of large hunch and light-armor-even-at-max.
My 2nd HBK is the SP (chosen because of this very guide!) and I'm kinda getting used to the SRMs but find I like the 4G's AC20 better though I love the SPs no-large-right-chest target profile.

So here's my dilemma:
I was thinking of getting the Grid Iron because it can carry an AC20 and I think it might be good because I can also throw an SSRM6 in there for lights who harass me.
My aim with lasers is sadly, mediocre, which explains my problem with light harassers who take me out more often than I'd like to admit. And also why I'm not so thrilled about trying out a 4P.
Of course I'm ok to hit my chosen targets (usually mediums and bigger) with the AC20 because it's range is better than ML's (for those targets who are far and standing still) and also great for when I'm Hit-and-Running my big, slow targets.

Opinions anyone? What do you think?
I've only got day to decide if I'm going to get one of those Grid Irons so I can unlock the Elite pilot tree.

Thanks to anyone who leaves some guidance before the 2/4/2014 deadline!!

First, there's no SSRM6, only SRM6 or SSRM2. Second, you don't have the necessary weight capacity to house any missile launcher - you can get one in there, at the severe expense of your engine level, as well as your speed and agility. Not mentioning another slow-projectile weapon would only draw your attention away from controlling your main gun.

{Scrap}... I didn't even notice this because I haven't looked at missiles at all until now  Thanks for pointing that out.
I keep thinking (wishing?) MWO has all the weapons MW3 had. :)

A single SSRM2 is probably near useless esp against lights with AMS, which defeats the purpose of even having a missile hard point on a HBK-4G, which is basically what Grid Iron is, right?

Precisely why I run my Griddle with the classic AC20+3ML loadout. Again, if it ain't broke don't change it.

I retired my fully mastered HBK's almost a year ago to master STK's, and eliting my Phracts & Spiders. I also have only played sparingly the past 3 months after a 75% index finger severing.

As I work on my rehab, I plan to revisit my slower Stalkers until flexibility and strength return....and doctors be damned, I've proven them wrong before. (crosses fingers, pun intended).

However, since jump jets are less viable considering my limitations now, postponing the Griffons I wanted to pilot one day, I'm greatly anticipating my return to the battlefield in this "P" now that I'm allowed to use my S Hawk 275 motor! :)

98kph, zoom zoom!

I used to clock 300-750 damage in 4 man drops, 200+ solo work in the old 260 engine, 1 more DHS. I'll have to remap some keys to accomodate my left hand, and spend buku hours in the Testing Grounds, but Gawd I'm hoping this old friend will be a fun and joyous Hellride once again!

It was my very first owned Mech and it taught me a life's lessons in situational awareness, heat management, and component targeting.

My baby gurl. There are many like it, but this one is mine!

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2a863cbbbda084f

And mine still had it's Cobra pattern, ever see an old man Squee?

*** Edit: By the way, Helmstif, thanks for this guide and your Youtube videos, pilots can learn a great deal from you. Any chance you'll release any more videos of this or other HBK builds?

Cheers,

Primate.

Why does everyone put a 275 in their 4P? A 270 lets you fit 1 more DHS, which is much more useful IMO.

Even though I never ever stop moving and with max armor it seems like my right torso gets taken out by the first hit I take every God damned time...

Solved.

Most people just shoot center mass on this at 500m:

Thanks for the info, DPD, I've already got one of those SPs but I'm piloting a HBK-4G (essentially) because I've already unlocked all the Basic Skills on the SP and need to unlock this chassis' Basic Skills so I can access the Elite ones.

Anyhow I'm pretty sure this is a "DOH!" moment but I finally figured out that (esp. with PuGs) I have to either: a) use left-angled hills for cover and shoot from cover, and/or :P stay within 200m of the largest group of Assaults or Heavies at all times and use them for shields while I both cover their back and shoot the enemy team from behind them.

It seems to be working for the most part for survivability of my AC20

What's your opinion on a Flamer in the head? Believe it or not I've been getting more "Component Destroyed" bonuses since I installed one but TBH I only use it as harrassment after someone's taken out my AC20. I have it mapped to a toggle so I can just run circles around the target with the flame spraying all over it the whole time... until they eventually take me out.

Also, what are the recommended modules for HBKs whose main gun is an AC20? Cool Shot's only good for 4P style loadouts.

I kinda like the idea of Early Warning detection with Seismic Sensors. Airstrike and Artillery seem the most blatantly obvious choices for offense.

Opinion?
