Games are meant to be fun and this could have added to the enjoyment of the game by owning colours and patterns and being able to deploy them with some flexibility. I will get little enjoyment out of the current camo setup and it could have been much more with a little balance between revenue and the service offered.

Also, the available basic colors are ridiculously little, and ugly.

Charging c-bills to swap them out doesn't make sense, if Dev's are going to charge c-bills for that then you might as well charge for every time you swap out something in your loadout. (I'd imagine it would be easier to paint a mech than hook up another large laser.)

Buy a skin and use it at will, interchangeably on any single mech AND get the color unlocks for that skin to use. Along with that allow colors to be unlocked for MC, not single use.
The system as it stands is only going to be pain once House/Company warfare gets going. People are going to want to swap their mechs back and forth depending on the match, and no one sane is going to spend cash to make that happen, at least not often.
I'd be much more tempted to invest in 3 to 10 colors and some skins if the system worked like the PC gamer skin and colors. As it stands I will not be spending MC on coloring or skinning my mechs. I'll live with the PC gamer skin and its few extra colors for now until the system changes, and if that goes away I'll do without under the current system.
Finally, the cbill color choices are a joke with the default skin, mostly dark colors that do not look good together and/or don't look very different on a mech.

For ex I redid my cataphract 1x with black/red/black (pc gamer colors) and looks great in mech lab but in game I am still green.
I got them to show once but next match gone again. (And of course you cannot tell unless someone tells you).
I dont know whether this is an issue with the pc gamer colors specifically but if I were to actually pay for colors and not have them stick Id be a tad annoyed.
Will experiment further...
And after further experimentaion problem appears intermittent.

If they ask me to pay MCs for a skin, even for a pattern I'm fine with it. I'm even fine if they charge me cbills for changing them or for colouring them (although reaching 1 million Cbills for changing colors is rather ridiculous, you can buy any "big" weapon with much less cbills than that). But..
..but once I've paid for a texture and pattern (even colors) they should be available for ALL the owned and future mechs. With the current business, I'm never ever going to buy anything, since right now I already own 10 mechs and I'm not certainly wasting money to personalize each of them, and this system incetivates me to NEVER do this for any mech.
With another, less strict model, I'd probably waste off MCs on multiple skins/camos. With this I really feel joked.

Why? I totally understand that PGI has to make money in order to keep the game up and running. But having to pay ~750 MC isnt a "micro"transaction anymore. Hell, you can get a COMMANDO for less. (680 MC)
A lot of people WANT to give you money for your efforts, PGI..but for a simple paint job, the actual prices are to much. Think of students e.g. who simply can´t afford ~3,50 fur such a simple thing.
Again: The magic word is MICRO transactions....50 Cent per Paint Job would be totally ok..even for every time you want to change the mechs color. (No...not per color...per total color change)
On the other hand, all the people who arent willing (not because they can´t) to pay a dime on that game at all...well, I just can say: happy grinding! Thats the reason I dont mind higher CBill Prices.

Or at least apply your saved patterns / schemes to another mech for a handful of CBills (like, 25k or something.)
I'm all for money sinks. This is not a money sink. This is a money dump.

MC to unlock paterns / color on specific mech/variant.
CBill to apply/repaint.
money will flow for PGI if they release new paterns from time to time, instead of hoping on people to switch patern and pay over and over for the same paterns / colors...

I have to pay $2 to $4 dollars every time I want to change colors?
Between a Founders account for myself, my son, and extra MC purchased I have already invested over $300 in your game. I don't regret that and obviously I am not afraid to spend money on what has the potential to be a great game. But I have not and will not spend a dime on a one time paint job for a virtual robot.
If we spend real dollars to unlock a paint, we should not have to pay for it every time we want to use it.
I am so disappointed with this system.

If you want all 5 Mechs painted white, you should pay for 5 white paints, but when swapping paint to something else - it should remain in the inventory.
This would be a nice compromise between Piranha earning cbills, and people not being frustrated.
Current system is the worst one I could ever imagine.
(and to make it even more fun - free colors are horrible)

I also do not see the logic behind tying colors to mechs. It's a color, every mech should be able to be painted any color (for a c-bills cost most likely). I can better justify patterns being tied to chassis since the mesh/stencil would need to be different for every chassis, but it still is a little money-grubbing to me.
Also, thank you for this well done and thought out poll.
