They've been charging for bullets longer than we've had the option for paint.

Isn't that AFTER the game is developed?

If no one is paying for it how does the game get developed in the first place?
I'd also like to point out that the state of the game in its entirety right now is already more than what MW4 had in the way of multiplayer and we didn't complain back then about spending $60+ on it.

3. Very strange. Do you have all the drivers, directx, all this stuff updated? Because yeah, performance for me dropped a bit, but not too much since CBT. I have Core i7 2630QM (8 cores w/hyperthreading), 6GB RAM, Radeon HD 6770M.
Also, you may want to turn VSync off. It is glitchy in CryEngine 3 of this version. Oh, and also, delete the shaders cache folder. You probably have shaders from old game version, you need to clear them.

Thanks, I may try some of that later. As soon as there were more than two mechs in view and some weapon fire/effect the framerate dropped below ~20.

But even to change the color of a tiny stripe on my mech? I'm all for exclusive skins, cockpit items, hero mech variants and other stuff that actually feels substantial, but is a simple color change really something you should have to pay for. Just felt really weird and greedy.

There are some colors that only cost C-bills(basically free) and will make you different from others. while some combos might be "ugly" there is enough possible combinations that don't require MC that you can look different from others.

Exactly. If we coughed up money via the Founder's program... we should get access to a reasonable amount of skins/colors... for FREE!

In Mechwarrior 4, for instance, I could pick multiple skins for my mechs, all for the entry price of 60 bucks or so to buy the game.

1. You got MC which is a reasonable amount of Skins/Colors for FREE! ;)

2. It's almost as if PC gaming has changed in the last 10 years and uses a different money making model or something.

F2P's model is that you spend constantly as if you were playing an MMO with a monthly subscription but instead of paying for the right to play the game you pay for perks inside the game.

I realize that but it won't get me to spend money. I never spent a dime more on Team Fortress 2 than the original Orange Box purchase I made when it first came out. Since then, I've logged almost 1600 hours in it.

I loathe MMO subscriptions. I refuse to pay them. Others here do too. If I refuse to pay for cable tv for my family, why the hell should I pay a monthly fee to game for myself?

That's selfish.

Single purchase. Play. Buy an expansion later. That's the only model I will support.

Now how do other MMOs finance a game without microtransactions? A bank loan? A financial backer?

1. Seems fine to me.

2. That is a good thing. They need to make money so let people spend it on stuff that does not make it a pay 2 win game. There will also be colours and patterns you can use for free or purchase with cbills.

3. In closed beta was seeing 11 to 18 fps on my 4 core i7 2.2Ghz, 8GB RAM and crappy Radeon HD 6770M with 2GB RAM. Since open beta I am seeing 30 to 50 fps and better stability than ever. People need try re-install every couple patches, it makes a difference, besides that maybe the problem lies closer to home.

4. Heat vision sucked before and presumable still sucks, wouldn't know as I don't use it. Only complaints I have are the Hunchback Gs right torso hitbox, still the size of a barn and the nigh indestructable Catapults.

1. The ui
It has basic functionality.   It ain't pretty, but it works.  I am annoyed by it as well, but there are MUCH more pressing issues.  Also, read the dev notes.  These changes should be happening in December.

2. Paying for colors?
Vanity. Unless you want "GOLD AMMO" or other PAY2WIN features, vanity options is the fuel that drives F2P games.  The
color of your perty little mech does not affect the gameplay.  Well, some mechs will be easier to see that others, but that is the point.  If you like MWO...super!  I need more targets.  If you want to play for FREE....awesome.  You can do so....and I still need more targets.    But, unless you want this game to go the way of the Dodo....PGI needs to pay its developers and it's ISP bill.   I guess it's only logical people would complain about this. The internet complains about everything.   But, suck it up, little camper.   Don't like it?  Well, there will still be plenty of FREE options in this regard, ala the PC Gamer skin.

3. Performance
I actually have the SAME fps on the new CE 3.4 engine with my BRAND NEW EVGA 670 GTX 4gig card that I did on the OLD 3.1 engine on my crappy ol' 9800GT.   Why?  As they stated before, they would NOT be spending too much dev time optimizing the 3.1 or the 3.4 DX9 code as it would just get thrown out with the new 3.4 DX11 implementation.  Now, some people will only run 3.4 DX9 and they have made improvements, but that engine has only been in place for a couple of cycles.   You must realize this game is being developed IN REAL TIME, practically.  That means you get to see all the warts along the way.  Want it all nice and pretty?  Come back after launch.  Until then...here is your obligatory:
IT'S BETA! ™

4. Other annoyances
One thing people seem to not understand...is heat vision.  This shows things that are hotter or colder than their surroundings.   This is not NIGHT vision where everything is amplified.   So, if you are playing Forest Colony...and it's 75 deg out....EVERYTHING is 75 degrees.  Yeah, the water may be colder, and if anyone is living in the buildings, they may be cooler or warmer, but effectively the entire environment is the SAME temperature.  Now, caustic valley?  Heat plumes are WAY hotter and show up as such.  Otherwise, really only the mechs are going to be different than the environment.

I decided to log in and try some matches today after being away from the game for about month and my experience was horrible.

1. The ui
Buttons and options crammed in everywhere and a really disorienting experience even for me that has played the game a good amount of time during the closed beta.

2. Paying for colors?
Am I seriously not even going to be able to change a basic color without having to pay money for it? Feels like they are trying to rob me of money wherever I go in the menus. I'd be totally fine with paying for a cool mech skin, but just to switch color is taking it way too far.

3. Performance
The game has always run badly for me but this time it was much worse than last time I played. My system is a AMD FX-6100 (6-core), AMD 7950 and 16 GB RAM and my first game became totally unplayable as soon as I got in close to two enemy mechs. I turned everything down to low/medium, no AA and still couldn't get a 30fps+ stable framerate for my next match (both on forest colony). How can this game run so bad, when I can play Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 on high without any problems?

4. Other annoyances
Heat vision was great before but now everything except for the mechs is just dark blue and I can't see anything. Why?

I was targeted by a Catapult that fired streaks and my screen kept going really dark as I took fire. Combine that with crazy shaking and framerate that went below 10 fps and there was really nothing I could do but die.

It's like you're trying your best to make this game even more unaproachable for people. I was hoping that there had been some improvements since i stopped playing, but frankly it just felt way worse ;). Sorry but I had to vent.

It will get better when it becomes a real beta instead of just an alpha in disguise. Sooner or later they'll have to start addressing the numerous gamebreaking bugs that make it so that you're lucky to be able to play four matches out of five you drop for.

Oh I must have missed that (I blame it on bad ui again!), I was trying to change color on my founder's Atlas and everything seemed to be 125 MC or 250 MC for some colors.

(in reference to selling "enhanced" ammunitions.)

Can Yen Lo Wang move its Arms left and right, or mount missiles?

"Enhanced" ammunitions refer to (cash-only) bullets with damage buffs and other features that are not compensated-for in terms of any inherent performance degredations - that is the [stereotyped] epitome of P2W.

Investments that are often in the hundreds of millions of dollars. MMO's are the most expensive types of games to develop short of more movie than game JRPG's.

Nope - the YLW is honestly an inferior Centurion with a CBill bonus.

Very little has been added to the UI in the last month. Its easy to use with a modicum of thought.

So use the c-bill only colours. Its not like anyone has to paint their mech in the colours that cost MC. I found some nice combos just using the basic colours.

Delete the cache folder before you start the game next time. I am having no problems with FPS with a quad core and a GTX650, running at 50FPS.

Because cool objects are blue in heat vision? But this has not changed in the last month.

That was in the game a month ago, nothing has changed there so it is not new. It is being looked at though.

What are they gonna eat when people don't pay for one-change-only stuff? It's a horrible model and IMHO lessens the amout of food on the table.

The 5 "Basic" colours (a red, purple, blue-grey, olive and orange) cost c-bills. That is in effect free as its in game currency.

Hmm it may be longer since I played the game than I thought, but I remember being able to clearly see the terrain in heat vision before (now everything except the mechs seem to have the same shade of blue). Surely they would be have heat-vision that is actually usable in the future.

As for the screen getting darker I don't remember that either and it's really annoying in combination with all the shaking.
