technically, windows 7 is just vista with lipstick....after they fixed all the crappy parts. vista got a bad rap for being such a POS at launch, but after all the updates and service packs it wasn't too bad of an OS...but, due to the bad rap, they reworked it, made it a little better, gave it some lipstick and called it windows 7.

Wow lots of recommendations and opinions in here. Pretty much all say win7 x64, which really is the right choice. Win8 is contoversial to say the least. Does anyone even know if this game is being developed with win8 in mind? It didn't really occur to me but now I'm going to see what happens in win8 if/when I get into the beta.

So much misinformation and so many people passing judgement on Windows 8 without actually knowing much about it. It's really unfortunate. D:

The fact of the matter is that for gaming, Windows 8 will be a better OS as it has performance optimizations that Windows 7 does not have. And it's not just about the boot time--various benchmarks have shown Windows 8 to have a lead. And it's not even a complete product yet. Windows 8 also has a code cleanup with regards to APIs, which is something that was planned for Vista under the Longhorn project, but never made it.

Granted, the real-world differences in performance won't be exactly earth-shattering, but Windows 8 will be a good step forward as far as performance is concerned.

The UI on the other hand I am not a fan of. But then again, I also hated the Vista/7 UI change over XP (and to be honest, I used my XP with the classic Win2k style before that). But just as I have learned to accept the Windows 7 UI, I will get used to the Windows 8 one.

In the end, I probably wouldn't pay for an upgrade to Windows 8. If I can get it free from MSDN, then I will use it. Otherwise, Win 7 Pro x64 works nicely.

I am looking forwards to Win 7 64bit. I suffered Vista for many years and I still think it should burn in hell.

All the odd Windows are good, all the even Windows are bad. 98 was great. ME was crap. XP is great. Vista is crap. Win7 is great. Win8 is crap.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. You just got to remember to disable search indexing, because that'll eat 10% of your memory.

Just upgrade to windows 7.. 7 fixed most if not all the major bugs with vista and reduced the needed resources your computer needed.. Xp 64 bit wont be able to provide 100% support to some new computer/parts and games..

Your logic stumbled over Windows Me, which is short for "Millennial Edition", which is an even number and was released on 2000, an even date.

Was using Windows 7 pro 64 bit but trying out Windows 8 for a bit. To start with it kept crashing all the time and had driver issues. But now seems to run very well and getting a nice boost from my FX1850@4.9. Gonna stick with it for now as performance boost is worth putting up with the gimmicky metro UI

I stay with Win7 and will avoid Win8 as historically Windows changes with every version between good and crap, so Win9 may be a good one again.
Regarding to a magically enhanced Bulldozer performance tests of the Beta have shown that Win8 will have no significant performance boost in games as it is between -3% and +3% performance change compard to Win7.

Even Microsoft have said that if you're not on a tablet or touch-capable monitor, it would be better to stay with 7.

Windows 7 vs Windows 8 Gameperformance (ATI 7970 + Nvidia GTX 580)
http://www.computerb...m-spieletest/2/

Crysis 2 did not run and Dirt 3 only run windowed.

Win 8 will also have a better support for soundcard hardware acceleration - dedicated soundcards will get an edge more over onboard sound.

After reading PeterB's series of Windows 8 Previews at Ars Technica - in particular the way it handles multiple monitors - I specifically decided on Windows 7 when building new computers for myself, my wife and my best mate. It's a decision I have yet to regret.

Windows 8 may eventually prove to be a decent operating system (I used Vista for three years without suffering through many of the complaints people had about it specifically because I came to it late in the life cycle), but for now, the very few refinements it seems to have for gaming pale heavily in comparison to the kludgy nature of the desktop implementation.

think about this:
win 3.0 crap
win 3.1 good
win 95 crap
win 98 good
win me crap
win xp good
win vista crap
win 7 good
win 8???

This is the deepest truth concerning MS operating systems, even if it left one or two of them out. If you have one that works, stick with it until the next one that works comes out. Vista wasn't an operating system, it was fraud: "crap" does not go far enough.

Right now, I would say Windows 7 x64 to give you more RAM support. I personally run Win7 with Areo off, but that is just me. Win8 looks to run a bit better and I believe may be more optimized for multi-core CPU's. I haven't played with a whole lot and just downloaded the release preview the other day, but if I can set up a way I will like, I may run that as a primary OS. While I am a fan of the desktop and having multiple windows open, that is my comfort zone. I am willing to try other things, and we will see in due time. At this moment though, I would stick with Win7 until Win8 is ironed out so to speak.

Window's 8 kind of disappoints because you need a touch screen to fully utilize the freature.

Windows 8 is really Windows Mobile from everything I've seen. The folks that have touch-sensing screens will find it really easy and intuitive. Those using mouse and keyboard interfaces... not so much.

Personally, I plan to stick with Windows 7 for as long as I can.

Like Star Trek movies. Every other Windows doesn't suck. Windows 7 is very good............................... need I say more?

Yup, every other one, since 98. Me SUCKED, 2k worked really well, Vista BLEW, 7 is what I'm on now(although I would switch to Linux if PGI releases a Linux version).

I use Windows 8, can see why some people dont like it but for me runs great. One of those once you get use to it kind of things. It can run every game i've thrown at it except for shogun 2, though thats always been wonkey.
