ML/SL/armor/AMS to taste. My feeling is that the ML are indispensable as a backup/alpha kickup weapon, but mo' ammo, mo' betta ain't a crazy thought either. I like to fire all four ACs together as a long-range, fast cycling AC/20 but I have them grouped L/R and some people like to stagger fire. IMO, that spreads damage, generally weakening the build, but I keep them split up for hills and corners.

Ilya Standard UAC

Feel free to live dangerously and slap an XL + Meds in for pugging, but this is a pretty brutal shooter. Remember you use your head ammo first, followed by right torso ammo (if the order is still the same), so once you've burned a bunch of shots, block with your right side to minimize ammo explosion risks.

All good except...

NEVER
EVER
DROP LEG ARMOR
AND FILL IT WITH AMMO!

heh, in all seriousness, you need to fix that. Re-up the leg armor in general and definitely, positively don't stuff half-armor legs full of ammunition! I don't even like running ammo in the legs on a fully armored 'mech most of the time but this is a terrible idea.

Fortunately it's an easy fix for a single ton of ammo. Leg armor is STILL a tad lighter than I'd like, but much improved (and not explody.)

Cottontail Repaired

EDIT: I am absolutely not joking when I say a single strike from the right 'mech could blow your 4X up in a single shot with a bit of luck the way you've got it setup. AC/20 + 2x PPC for example would easily crit into the leg and stand a chance of igniting ammo instantaneously.

Nasty. I'm just getting to the point ELO-wise where I'm starting to hate running XLs in my big mechs. Going to have to steal this.

Yeah, I knew you were going to say that. It's a build I hadn't looked at in a while and I had the same thought. (See above, these weaknesses are now getting exposed)

EDIT: Yeah, I know. :) There is a lot you can get away with in low to mid ELO (and even profit from) that starts to cost you higher up.

The hero mech already comes with a XL planted firmly in so no need to slap 1 in :) also why would u take a XL engine out for a standard do XL cause more problems then standard or something?

You die if you lose a ST with an XL. Huge difference in survivability.

EDIT: Also, good players will be able to tell which you're running from your loadout and if they see you're running an XL, will target STs because they can kill you faster that way.

1) 30 point alpha vs. 20 in key situations

2) I've shot it dry and killed two more guys to win a game

I hate going into a match, especially a PUG match without a couple medium lasers. And I get really annoyed with teammates who are "men" who shoot their jager dry in five minutes and announce "I'm out of ammo."

ST: Side Torso. XLs take 12 slots, 6 in the CT and 3 in each ST. STDs just take 6 in the CT. You'll always die by losing: 1) head, 2) both legs, 3) CT. If you have an XL, you'll also die by losing either ST.

EDIT: Read this:

http://mwomercs.com/...s-guide-to-mwo/

Some of the particulars on weapon/chassis balance are dated, but the core concepts are sound and you'll have a much better idea of how the game actually works.

That's the whole point of the XL (for eXtra Light, actually). It's lighter but larger and riskier.

You didn't read your homework. :)

Thought you meant the 4X.

Did you get Endo Steel? Are your armor values the same?

It does take a fair amount of getting used to, and all CTFs get MUCH better with doubled basic efficiencies.
