That's really weird, this female mechwarrior changed 10 mechs in her career already ;) Never seen something like that before.

She makes so many C-Bills with her kills and assists that she's pawning them off on her Lancemates.

Either way, people are too stuck on the tonnage of the mech rather than what it can do. It's faster than anything else in the game, and it finally gives the mediums something OTHER than a standard trooper style mech.

True it does give variety..

Called it. a "light" Medium. Next up will be 70-75 tonns, or 90-95 tonns

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Highlander - 90 ton of variety !!

Highlander has a TON of variants..

and the best thing of all Jump Jets.. ;)

STOCK Cicada Hard Points

3 ( E )

CDA-2B - The -2B variant of the Cicada is a simple upgrade that exchanges the Small Laser for a Flamer. This modification makes the Cicada effective against infantry.

2 ( E )
1 ( B ) (Is Flamer B or E? )

CDA-3C - The -3C Cicada is an attempt to allow the 'Mech to have a much greater reach with devastating results. To do this, the maximum speed has been reduced to 118.8 kph and the Medium Lasers have been replaced with two Machine Guns and the Small Laser has been replaced with a PPC.

1 ( E )
2 ( B )

CDA-3F - The -3F Cicada is one of the most advanced versions of this 'Mech and was designed following the Clan Invasion. The chassis has been constructed using Endo Steel construction techniques and the 'Mech is protected with six and a half tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor. The -3F is powered by an extralight engine, can jump up to two hundred and forty meters, and carries a weapons loadout that appears to be a cross between the -2A and -3C models. The primary weapon is an ER PPC, which is backed up by two Medium Lasers.

3 ( E )

CDA-3G - Based off of the same chassis as the 3F, the 3G trades in the PPC for an ER Large Laser, a Beagle Active Probe, and additional armor.

3 ( E )

CDA-3M - The -3M upgrade of this older BattleMech uses some of the newest technology available in 3050. The engine has been upgraded to an extralight engine and the extra space has been used to upgrade the Small Laser to a Small Pulse Laser and also to add an Ultra Autocannon/5, as well as CASE to protect the 'Mech in the case of an ammunition explosion.

3 ( E )
1 ( B )

CDA-3MA - This variation of the 3M swaps the autocannon for a Snub-Nose PPC and additional armor. This version helps to introduce new technology to cadets.

4 (E)

CDA-3P - An upgrade of the 3M, the 3P lowers the 'Mech's top speed to 119 km/h to upgrade the autocannon to a Heavy PPC. The lasers are replaced with four ER Medium Lasers. Additional armor is added, though not as much as with the 3MA.

5 ( E )

Looks like no matter what you will NOT be able to mount any sort of Missles on the Cicada..

Impressive and disappointing at the same time.

With all the liberties FD (most of them positive) has taken in updating classic designs, I'm puzzled why this interpretation of the Cicade doesn't damn the ridiculous placement of the MLs in the torso (most likely caused by a typo or series of extremely poor decisions by CBTPTB over the years) once and for all...well, at least in the MWO universe.

The original art work and all the minis have the MLs in the turret-like "arms".

That the Cicada (and Jenner) now have a proper waist deserves praise.

Looking forward to seeing this mech in action.

we needed a heavy mech, not another light mech. also, Cicada is a Locust clone, a very bad design IMHO. Too heavy for that speed: too much weight wasted in the engine.

Maybe you will be able to further downgrade the engine for more weight savings a la MW2/3/4. The hardpoints actually look pretty good, but I can't imagine buying Cicada after my experience in Mercenaries.

P.S. There is a jump-capable variant.

"We heard you loved the Locust, but since it's Unseen we went ahead and gave you a bigger, fatter version."

"Cool. But I'm sure a redesigned Locust would have looked nicer."

"Did we mention that one of the variants carries a PPC at only a slight decrease in speed?"

"...sold."

Redesign is adorbs.

The 'Mech itself is awesome. It's a Locust x 2. A Megalocust, if you will.

Ohhhh....nice. Totally blindsided on that one. Looks good too. Might have to keep one in the garage when I'm feeling speedy.

hmmm might have found my ride. The only thing i im worried about is how big is it. It shouldnt be that much bigger than the lights.

If for some reason its the same size as a medium..... Also i hope it can torso twist a large amount, if thats not true and all the weapons are mounted on the torso then you wont be able to strafe very well, which for a fast mech is a must i think.

Devs would it be possible to get a rough drawing of the different mech sillhouetes standing next to each other so we can see how big they are compared to one another?

I found my ride. 3M, cut off the pulse laser, and go with a LBX-10 AC for CQC or an AC/5, extra ton of ammo, and some armor on the other hand.
Or if there's an option for JJ's seeing as the 3F version has them, I may opt for JJ's instead of that extra ton of ammo and Armor.. hmm. Maybe an AC/2 or a pair of them perhaps? Long range harasser...
..
Yup found my ride.

Looks pretty darn close to the original from Battletech if you ask me. If you look at the left torso I don't think that is a medium laser there if you ask me. Could that be an Ultra AC 5 I see?

It's got two medium lasers clearly visible, one in each side torso, small laser in the center, and an ultra AC/5

Glad we're getting a mix of speeds and tonnages within the different classes. This thing looks really fun, and FAST!

I never much cared for the original design of the Cicada. While it looked alright, it had a very weak weapons loadout and was little more than an overgrown Locust with a much higher price tag. However, I certainly did like the updated variants with the Ultra AC-5. I would have preferred a PPC, (like the old, slower variant) but it added some much needed firepower. This looks like the AC variant, which makes it a very usable mech.

@Claw55

Cicada

Pronounced "Sih-KAY-duh" (or sick-AH-dah)

It's named after the annoying, fast, irritating insect. Pretty much a perfect name.
