I also agree with Banditman's post. At the very least unlock the color / camouflage for a chassis type and the ability to save each of your color schemes vs. having to pay to repaint it all over again. Should be similar to weapons purchased or mechs. You get to choose when and where you use it.

The OP has put to words what we've all been thinking. I'm itching to spend some of my MC on some paint but I switch between mechs pretty often and I'm not too keen on being robbed.

We waited so long for the option to paint our mechs. When we finally got the ability, the cost to do it made many of us decide to not do it. I have seen a few drops that included mechs with matching paint jobs for mech units (fantastic!) and some paint jobs to make your eyes bleed! (WTH PURPLE AND ORANGE!! lol)
Either way the chance to personalize your mech is too good of an opportunity for PGI to make money without gouging its player base. Please take the time PGI and adjust the cost with an honest eye towards your players as the OP suggests. His ideas make sense and provide ample funding to support the camo feature.

I won't be buying paint jobs/patterns that cost this much real money. I switch mechs too often to be able to afford it. MC's for mech bays is okay BECAUSE I switch so much and it's a one time transaction.

I totally support the idea.

If they want more cash flow, than they can implement more paint jobs, so there will be more diversity and everybody will be happy.

Agreed. Heck, I'd probably pay a little more (say 500MC) for paint if I can use it everywhere forever. As it stands now, I (and many other it appears) won't pay for each application of paint so implementing OP ideas seems like a money maker for PGI.

Agree with Bandit 110%! Allow me to add a personal appeal that furthers the case for this style of payment.

I'm a PhD student making peanuts and using the spent shells to fund my meager entertainment budget...which was not very entertaining until MWO came along. I've been waiting 10+ years for this game, I signed up for an account before Closed Beta even started, and bought into the Founder's program with as much money as I could afford (actually, it was my Anniversary present from my wife). I'm sure my story is not unique. I would imagine there are many who play whose stories are close to mine.

I don't mind spending more money on this game...I've waited so long I'm practically foaming at the mouth to drop money on my big stompy robots. But I'm also not stupid. I'm not saying PGI thinks I'm stupid...far from it...I just know I'm on a budget. Given how much MC cost in real-life dollars, I can't afford to spend MC on paint at their current real-life costs. Knowing that a whole host of MC-dependent mechs, items, possibly even missions or dropships or whatever else PGI can think of are coming down the pipeTM, I have to wait and spend MC where it will make the most sense for my continued enjoyment of the game for as long as humanly possible. Implement a paint payment scheme like what Bandit suggested and you'll see another $10-20 in your coffers.

As I said, I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation and the popularity of this thread speaks volumes.

Had I more than one +1 I would give it..

As it stands I probably wont paint any but my elite "Keepers".
With a package I would probably buy and use it on all my mechs.

While we are at it..how about a free set of house parade colors, down the line.
For when houses become active.

I myself am waiting to see how they fine tune the pay for camo colors/patterns before I spend any real money on things. I'd love to be able to add a color or two and a new pattern to my mechs however, I don't see that happening unless they do something like this or at the very least less money intensive compared to now.

This makes way more sense then what they have now. I can't see myself paying to paint more then one mech with the current system. They have half way implemented Banditman's suggestion when you look at the PC Gamer skin + colour and the way it works.

This thread needs more pages. There was a reddit thread on this too.

PGI, if you want to see how to make your community happy, look at Riot Games & their base. The reason they're so loyal is because they don't feel ripped off when they spend cash & never feel like they "have to" spend to be competetive. I bought the paint before I saw how it worked, The way it is now, I kinda wish I could refund my whole $50 purchase, but I'm gonna roll with it & hope you guys do the right thing.
