While I agree with the OP in many respects, I just have to ask... why would you paint all 30 mechs? I have 18 but I regularly play only 5-6 of them. No chance I'm ever spending money to paint the Jenner K.

Great question, I'm really glad you asked because I want PGI to have the answer.

As part of an organized unit, I'm going to be dropping to "do things" with my team. What those things are, only PGI can answer by revealing their Community Warfare, but regardless . . .

Let's say that I "normally" play an Atlas Brawler, but tonite, we have plenty of those but no Scout. I happen to own a few Scout mechs. I don't play them regularly, but I do in a pinch. Certainly, I'll offer to Scout, but regardless of my role, I want my mech to fit in with my team.

Thus, to answer your question, I'll paint all 30 (or more, however many I have at the time) of my mechs to my team colors so that no matter what role I am asked to play, I look and feel like a part of my team.

If PGI wants to take all my money, they will allow me to outfit my mech company, The League of Extremely Dapper Gentlemen , in this way

That would make me both very happy, and very poor.

+1

Take note folks, this is how constructive feedback is done. Kudos to the OP and many of the followup posters.

I am in complete agreement on this as well. During play last night, we were looking at the paint options for C-bill only and free because we didn't want to force our unit into paying to paint their mechs multiple times over as noted by Banditman. But I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that if a color or pattern, once bought, becomes available to all of my mechs, I would purchase them because I do like the idea of the flexibility afforded by the paint jobs and the uniqueness it brings.

Oh, we can indeed be stupid.

But relying on consumer stupidity is both A - Not a Good Business Plan, and B - Incredibly Unethical.

OP highlights pretty much exactly why I have not purchased paint for any mechs.

PGI please do this so I can actually customize my mechs.

We will be getting an overhaul of the camo spec system after the new year sometime. Hopefully thanks to all your constructive criticism, yay!

Given the number of mechs and variants most of us are going to have, absolutely. A lot of grey otherwise.

This is nice: we now have this nonsense going on now:

http://mwomercs.com/...00#entry1498900

tldr: pc gamer camo pattern and colors are usable on any mech you own.
Oh, look at that, the pc gamer colors are free and unlocked already because you have the pc gamer skin. Apply it to a different mech or pattern? Colors look like ****. Want that same vibrancy and color as was on the pc gamer skin? Pay them $$$.

When you get your car detailed you don't get to take that detail off your existing car and apply it onto your other car.
I don't see any reason why we should not need to pay again if we want to color our other mech or same mech again.
Furthermore it makes colors more rare, okay maybe they should rethink it a little because rare colors means rare cash flow.

Did you read the whole thread?

You shouldn't have to pay MC's every time you want to change the pin-striping on your mech. You should have to pay C-Bills.

Yes please! I won't buy any paint in the current non-unlocked system but I guarantee I will spend money on paint/deco I can maintain in my inventory and use again.

I am basically waiting on the moment I can "safely" unlock everything without wasting my MCs on repaints.

I have no problem with repainting costing C-Bills, however. And if you want to monetize that... Well, on one hand, we have the Premium Account Bonuses acquirable for MCs... And what about an MC to C-Bill conversion? Or is that too bad form? (But it beats buying a mech and selling it for C-Bills.)

OK so this thread is growing faster than I can read, so sorry if I'm doubling up.

In the vane of PGI's recent influx of information streaming to the users, I'm going to try to respond in kind.

I agree with the OP, paint prices are way out of whack with the demand curve. The current prices really would only be reasonable as permanent unlock prices in my opinion, but I would be fine with a "single use" price as well, if it were reasonable. Ideally both would be available -- to build on the package deals outlined by OP: "Wouldn't you like to unlock this color permanently (250MC) instead of just for this paint job (50MC)? With only 4 mech bays, this seems like win-win pricing.

To give you a data point, I would pay current prices for permanent unlocks of paints, and I would spend much more MC with deals on sets (75-80%).

Reasoning: I know what colors I like, and that might be half a dozen or eight. But if you're willing to give me a discount to hedge against a future artistic streak or pattern that might change my palette palate, I'll pony up. Maybe I end up with a couple of free colors, but I'm now looking at buying 4-6 "packs" instead of singles, and as an offshoot, with all those colors I might come up with a cool paint job that gets others interested in buying in.

I am more willing to pay for camo schemes on a per-chassis basis, but I'm never going to spend hard currency on a scheme that is specific to a single variant -- that includes hero mechs. If buying a hero mech opened that scheme for my entire stable, however, I might buy a hero mech that I would never have otherwise.

I hope this info helps your decisions on pricing, and keep up the improved communication!

Let's say they haven't planned it well on paper and hopefully threads like this will make them understand how to tune the system better. This is a great constructive criticism document imho.

Keep this nice thread up ;)

I refuse to buy paint/patterns until they are permanent. Once they become permanent I will buy a bunch of random colors.

I want realism in the gameplay, not in the economy =/

Hahaha...Thats feckin ********.

You aren't supposed to take away legitimately bought and owned content and then replace it with more paid content PGI. That's the shadiest of the shady business practice right there.

I don't remember how deep into the thread I saw this, but I also agree that OP should throw up a poll. People like numbers, and when a large number of members vote for this idea, I'm sure PGI will take notice quickly.
