Yep, since the entire unit is paying for that, it should cost a lot.

I agree with the OP i should beable to purchase a colour/pattern/special and apply it to any mech, that way i would have to purchase 4-5 things to run around in my merc corps colours on all my mechs, right now im not that bothered as it seems to expensive, and the only mechs i will have to piant are the ones i will be using in Skaldborg matches, but even my corps would not make you piant your mech to play with them.
Buying colour/pattern/special with MC, and applying them with C-bills is a great idea

I had also thought on the "buying packs"...
But, another idea could be memorabilia packs...
I consider 250Mc for a banner or 250 for the dropship a rip off (true, you can remove it from the current mech and put it on another.....so you need to only buy them once)
But what if you want your "office" trully decorated?
you could sell a "Kurita office pack" for example... kurita banner, katana hanging in cockpit so you can have it in case of ejection, dragon boblehead... this kind of items... not just 3 items, but maybe 4-5 so it can please a wider kurita audience for a cheapo price. (and of course davion/merc/steiner/marik/liao sets would also be welcomed)

Agree with the guy who said it originally... Buy the paints with MC and pay c-bills to the poor blue shirt guy who will apply them (but not 300k cbills)

His reply is interesting. In essence, he's telling the players to hold off on buying paint because they will likely revise the way it is currently set up.
I concur with the suggestions in the OP.

Look at planetside 2, they had a very similar payment model in relation to camo and weapon unlocks. Someone asked John Smedley on his twitter the day after the game launched, if there was a chance that purchases would change from locked to character/server to account wide unlocks. His response? "Sorry no."
Few days ago?
Oh yeah, we are totally going to change the unlocks for real money purchases to account wide.
Its being touted as "we listen to the community" but, honestly? I wouldnt be surprised if they looked at their week one purchases and saw that almost no one saw any point in buying largely cosmetic items under such a punishing system.
Consumers are NOT STUPID.
Once word gets out that your business model is largely unfair, people are NOT going to spend money on it. If you want this game to flourish and you want more money coming in, you have to meet us (your playerbase) somewhere in the middle. Pay real money for skins? They should be available for ANY mech that can utilize them. Thats just common sense. I could even see restricting it to weight class (buy tigerstripe for assaults, can only use tigerstripe for assaults).
Restricting it to mech or even losing it all together if you change the pattern is unnaceptable when we are having to pay real money for it.
Meet us halfway and we will support your game by throwing money at you. Try and **** us over with greed ..... well, see where that got SOE and J Smedley. Adapt or die guys.

Because you want to be able to look good, and/or match your unit colors, even when leveling up mechs you may never play again.
