While the main reason I haven't painted any of my mechs is the lack of ideas for my own livery (and the fact that I'm still making my mind up on whether to join a unit... which itself might have its own livery), if the painting worked on an unlock scheme it would almost instantaneously erase most of my objections to grabbing colors and patterns.

Heck, I think many people would do the same.

Patterns sold per mech, colors sold entirely, application maybe sold by c-bills. Sounds to me a much better plan than the current scheme, which is.... very expensive.

Oh, yes, painting is very expensive as it is now... thus why the price feels like it should be for unlocking instead.

Right now they have put themselves in a really bad situation, because if they change it in a reasonable way (like many of us are suggesting), those who have wasted MCs with this silly system will raise, as we are raising now against the current implementation.

Well, they probably have a log of all transactions. If they do it's possible to automatically give us any unlocks/whatever for anything we bought before and no longer have, and possibly refund any MCs used on duplicate purchases.

It's not rocket science, just takes having logs and instituting a policy regarding transitioning from one system to another.

Heck, even if they don't refund we'd still be better off.

+1 As it stands I used my pc gamer colors, and bought one color with cbills to offset my mech... I bought a cockpit dropship, because I get to keep that. But I will not buy a color that I will just have to rebuy 100 times over in the future. I will gladly pay if it's made the way you described it.

I originally intended to create a unit when CW went live and we would have our own paint scheme. Now, with this, I won't. UNLESS the ideas listed herein are made real. So, it's your choice, PGI and IGP, either you get my money or you don't.

Feel free to correct me if I missed something, but I just painted my mech for 350,000 CBills. I didn't change the pattern, but I was not charged MC for re-painting the mech.

BTW PGI, why no Blue? Plus the pattern I want is more like a giant robot pattern rather than camo patterns.

I agree. I would love to see this idea implemented. Right now im with all of you. Holding on and not spending anything till they figure this out. With this idea I would have already bought several paintjobs.

I agree with what Banditman said, pay to unlock the colors. I can't justify paying every time I want to change all my mechs colors.

Not all the colors cost MC. Personally locking some of them behind MC seems silly to me. You either charge me real money every time I want basic colors or you charge every time I want to paint my mech eggshell because I can apparently tell it's a different color and thus worth it. Where do you seriously draw the line?

I agree with Banditman's idea of simply buying them to use them. At that point they could put pretty much everything behind MC and I would be okay with that, buy the few colors you like and you're good. I'd even be okay with them costing CB to apply after that (with the option to apply with MC to save your CB I guess). Maybe tone the price down. Paint isn't cheap but a whole mil feels out of place somehow.

Expand available colors for C-Bills, pay MC to keep the colors/patterns etc so you can apply them whenever you want without paying more C-Bills. This is a perfect system.

I 100% support this thread.

Especially the option to buy a cheap single use, or a longer term full application.

I have to say that I agree for another reason:

The current system actually isn't in keeping with the current F2P paradigm. Why? Because in LOTRO (as an example) I can never "sell back" my Elvish Champion. So, characters (which is what most F2Ps run on) are more or less forever.

In this game, on the other hand, I run myself through the mech skill levels on a chasis... and then maybe move on to another chasis. Why change a thing with no game play effect if I am likely to sell the thing off one day?

So, yes... we need to buy paint sets, not paint jobs on specific (and disposable) mechs... other wise, I am not spending a dime on this, except on a founder mech (which actually IS forever).

Possibly due to the founders' mechs... my Atlas is basicly blue to begin with... maybe its some silly "prestige-look" thing.
They may be trying to avoid "Founder Posers" who try to mimic the look of a Founder's mech with a paint job.
But, if that IS the reason, it seems pretty silly to me, because they could just restrict the pattern and still achieve the same...

I could not agree with the OP MORE!!!!!

I LOVE mechwarrior in all it's incarnations since very early beta, until now. I look forward to where it's going. I look forward to spending more than the $60 I already have; I like to support the franchise, and the developers' studio. I REFUSE to buy the same effing paint/camo 6 times though.

As a further note....if I drop HARD CURRENCY, to unlock a mech...that make should stay unlocked, and unsellable for Cbills or MC.You wont let me sell my founder's mech which I paid for; Why let me sell any other mech that I PAID for?

Basic paint costs Cbills. EVERY other paint/camo costs MC.

I agree, if I pay for some thing with real money I should get to keep it not rent it.

Buying single applications of paint schemes doesn't entice me to spend money, much less more money. Buying permanent things, aka increasing my artistic palette to choose from, does make me want to come back and spend more money. Plus it has this Pokemon "Gotta buy 'em all" draw.

Agreed, i would buy colors to collect them, just as im collecting thinks for my cockpit. Id love to buy paint once and then pay cbills to apply. It just makes better sence.

If they want to make some serious bank they should sell mech accessories... like hats, moustaches, unicorn horns, flippers, etc...

Hell, even make it like Global Agenda, where you bought colors like they were items. You could have for example: 1x black, 2x orange and 3x purple.
That way we can swap colors and patterns freely, but we can't apply "phranken red" more than once unless we buy another "phranken red" or "dazzle" to more than one mech unless we own another "dazzle".

It would also keep things fresh as you release colors often and players might want to try them out without fear of having to pay to return to their old palette.

Not really. They could easily just give everyone who bought extras of the same color a refund of whatever excess cost they had. If someone only bought one then they're fine, they just keep the one plus get it as an unlock. If for some reason the price went up I could see there bein a minor problem, but the most consumer friendly plan would be to simply just let them have it for the cheaper price as takin away somethin already bought is always a bad move.
