<picks himself off the deck from laughing> this game was never inteded to have 3rd person, as 1st person is a KEY design pillar, of which arcade view breaks that pillar on multiple levels and allows for cheap and dishonorable tactics and a cowards way of fighting.

Rofl IKR?

"I'm hardcore but I WANT third person" - Oh dear God, we have to change our entire perception! The harcore gamer WANTS third person!? No way. Such contradiction to the norm, the quo; we need change!

People will stop asking for 3rd person view as soon as their 100 ton mech doesn't get stuck on a tiny little fence or some other BS terrain.

Having 3rd person view will enhance the game not hurt it. If you don't like it then don't use it. I think it would be nice for positioning but it is sad that you often need it and don't have it.

HAHAHAHAHA Dude, you could NOT be MORE wrong here. Being able to see around corners, over hills or buildings w/out exposing my mech, is exactly what 3rd PPOV will give me. That is a HUGE HARM to the game. As it will ultimately turn into Jump Sniper Online. No, this game has 0 need of 3rd PPOV. Oh, and, uh, Paul said no. Proof: http://mwomercs.com/...__fromsearch__1

i agree, there is just toooooo much vision with 3rd person.

the whole game will end up with people peering over mountain or around corners with thermals.

Or how about have a checkbox in options that says "Prefer first-person only matches" that will put you in a separate queue and let you ONLY group with people that have also checked it. Those matches will of course disable third-person view.

Not good enough though, is it? Can't make a change that has no effect on your gameplay whatsoever now can we?

It wouldn't have much effect on my gameplay if it's just meaningless drops like we've got now, but hell no on 3rd person when and if Community Warfare comes out. Dividing the player base for that would be detrimental.

That's how it worked in third person CoD. Oh look, I don't have to get shot at to get tactical info. just look at my feet and get extended view over that ridge.

Ok, how about REPLAY mode in which you can choose 3rd person for better understanding of what went on and for better screenshots/video recordings?

How about... give players in single player/PUG queue the ability to toggle 3rd person... and if you're grouped, you get tactical comms advantage... which is the bigger advantage anyway.

Helps even out the playing field somewhat (it'll still be balanced heavily towards groups though), it'll be usable by new players (because they generally haven't found a group to play with yet), and players will be able to take sweet screenshots and vids.

I mean... that is if you guys really care about game balance and all that. Because you can't talk about game balance and ignore the balance issues caused by grouped players talking to each other and ungrouped players unable (or at least not very conveniently) share information and tactics.

And I'm suggesting this as someone that plays mostly in groups in a unit.

If people want 3rd person views thats up to them.
It means they get to watch themselves getting destroyed from all angles ;)

Remote drones would be a nice way of doing it.
Small orbiting camera drones that get damaged/shot down/jammed and just hover above the mech.
Or limit it to command mechs that have the extra command interfaces.

The community voted overwhelmingly against the idea, PGI will probably implement it anyway, such is life.

@ OP
Your name-calling will convince PGI that your opinion is worthless.

@Everyone else
Didn't one of the prior MW games have a "Centre legs to torso" key?... maybe PGI adding that would be more helpful to beginners.

There is a Center Torso key already, c.

By center legs to torso he means a key he can hit, that instead of rotating the upper torso to center on the legs, it turns the legs to center on torso instead.

Why would it make a difference to beginners? As for players being used to centering legs to torso instead of torso to legs - I'm old, and had a few days of difficulty learning the MWO way, but learn it I did and prefer it. It makes more sense. The torso is twisted - not the legs. 'C' un-twists the torso.

I'd like to consider myself a pretty savvy MW veteran. I can tell you right now, most leagues that had 3rd person (I'm looking at you MW3 & 4) that allowed it, meant everyone; and I mean EVERYONE was "forced" to use it to keep a competitive edge.

There's really no thrill like waiting behind a hill with 3rd person for 15 minutes with your thumb up your *** until someone gets impatient and then gets poptarted to death. /sarcasm

Third Person won't destroy the game per say. It will just drain it of 90% of its fun.

Just add Analog Turning to Joystick Support and don't waste time on third person. Players who can't navigate with a Mouse (like me) will pick up Joystick piloting mechs in a day or two and be pros in two weeks. Joystick piloting is the way MechWarrior plays easy and if you like to brawl, well the Joystick brawls best. You run circles around most players. Now gives us Analog Turning so we can aim competitively too.

I am really just saying this because i think, as the OP said, that if you think 3rd person will help players learn to pilot their mechs better than first person, it won't. The problem is that most humans can't pilot Mechs with a Mouse and Keypad, or find it very confusing. They get stuck on walls, each other, turn the wrong way. Give them a joystick however (working joystick/analog turning) and they play happily ever after. ;)
