Method for Deterring macro/botting/farming in game.

please take this seriously as a method for reducing in-game botting/farming and illegal macro usage.

is it possible by using a in game in hud "captcha" login code. ie: a 4 digit code (like captcha) that only appears on the hud when count down starts, to reduce the use of illegal activities.

here's how i see it working.
1. after count down starts a 4 digit code appears on the screen.
2. this 4 digit code acts like a security code to access your mech, like in the novels before you can unlock the systems and start up you need to punch in these numbers to "unlock" the HUD.
3. so all you have to do is type in the 4 numbers that show up on your screen to get you mech moving...
4. however if you don't unlock your mech, you'll get nothing. it also wont cost you anything, but you'll also earn NOTHING. no cbills, no xp...

i would ask for this to be taken seriously and for there to be an mature, adult discussion about pro's and cons to a system, that would implement this or similar measures for deterring inappropriate activities.

Regular captchas are annoying enough, we don't want to have to prove we're not bots in MWO.

Whilst the suicide farming needs to be addressed promptly, I STRONGLY disagree with typing in a code 'every' game.

Yeah because it is so hard to type in a super basic code, it doesn't have to be a crazy 3298 digit code, sure some people are still going to get through with their machines and drop out after.... but it would slow it down some. Make it a little less frequent. Without other options on the table, this would be a start, and if this were done, and it sucked. Then perhaps someone would come up with a better idea in the future. Perhaps it could simply be something like pulling your trigger fingers? Mechs often had an initiation code in the game history anyway, so that not anyone could just steal a mech... like your enemy sneaking into your base. They did have to hack the machine as I recal.

Maybe something like clicking a couple of buttons to begin the start-up sequence would be cool. Then I can hear Betty tell me everything is nominal....

However, a code to authenticate or some such is, in my humble opinion, ridiculous....

clicking buttons in a sequence can be done with a macro, which is what the op is trying to guard against.

I'm not sure I like the idea, but I'm not really against it either.

Just report them... Eventually, they'll get banned once the PGI team can review their logs, and then any of their botting will have been a waste of time.

captcha is the most annoying thing ever created. seriously dont put that in the game. however i think it would be cool to punch in a code to unlock your mechs and see them boot up and what not. though i can see how that would get old after the 100th time. this idea is not bad in anyway shape or form. but they could easily put in the code and then leave their mech there to die.

why are you making it difficult.

it's very simple. you do no damage. you get nothing

that stops bots and ppl dropping and intentionally overheating.

problem solved.

it is not hard for a bot to defeat this "code" all they would have to do is write a new pixle detection to figure out the combo

Do you know how much time captcha's actually waste in real life? No no no! :)

Oh yes, and its not even 100% foolproof..

I think it'd be far easier and more effective to have a launch confirmation dialog box appear in random locations. Adds 1 click, sure, but it'd be far easier to code in as well as quite successful in defeating macros.
