In case you didn't know, it wasn't Mechwarrior Online.

Say hello to the two other f2p games you funded with your real life dosh when you thought you were supporting MWO.

How do you know that those funds went there?

He's making the assumption that the money all went to IGP (which is plausible) and then the assumption that all the money was funneled into their two other projects.

Because we'd rather think the money was well spent on Mechwarrior Tactics than think it was wasted so hard we didn't even notice it was being wasted on MWO.

This. It's just logic. If I was working on a project and received a cash injection of 5 million dollars, don't you think there would be a significant improvement upon said project? On the other hand, if there was no change at all you'd assume I spent the money on ******* and yachts and I couldn't fault you for it.

Obviously PGI/IGP will never say that's the truth, because they know the PR backlash that would result from it. Doesn't change what probably happened though.

While I disagree this is where the all of the money went, I believe we know what the next 3 of the next mechs are going to be from MW tactics: Grasshopper, Orion and Clint are the only mechs in MWtactics that are not in MWO.

Which is good if true. I love the Clint.

In a video covering Star Citizen a german pc-gaming magazine recently said that the 6+ millions spent on that game via crowdfunding & kickstarter are a new record, previously held by MWO with it's 5 millions.

Back then I didn't think twice about it, but while the Founder packages were definitely a form of crowd-funding, it all went to the publisher, not the developer. So in reality it is not truly crowd-funding and not all the money went to the MWO publishers. That means also no second or third place for MWO in the statistics since we can't know how much was used for MWO exclusively...

Didn't realize this before.

so far i prefer star citizen version of "help us build the game" - with frequent updates realistic devs and sap people willing to help me and provide me with info.

while op indeed have a point i think those millions were wasted on MWO. This was unavoidable given experience they had when started and i can tolerate this. what i cant thought is that they are too slow to learn imho - now i'm in now way game dev or uber programmer or something like that, but something tells me that many things and many choices were obviously wrong even to someone without any experience in game dev. So given current situation and some coincidences it is entirely possible that project will run out of money before actual release =_=

Maybe they were smart and still have it..

Though with the thoughts of they have a team building this game it was probly put in the teams fund to pay server exspences and hire new and pay existing workers.

btw they had the other games b4 the money, and they are pulling in more money than this game.

I thought the whole idea was to pay back the publisher what was borrowed.

Doesn't it work the other way once those games are launched?

I assume MWO will get funds from similar transactions on both Tactics and Sins of a dark age. Only fair right?

Video games cost a LOT. I would be very surprised if they had not spent at least 5 million prior to getting any founders money.

If no one had spent money on MWO, the studio would probably be laying off staff by now, which always sucks. Fortunately they have produced something that works pretty well as a ftp model; I've somehow been lured into spending on 12000+25000 mechwarrior points, even though I did not buy founders due to initially being put off by the game play during the early beta. Said game play has substantially improved, in my opinion.

The point is, though, that the game will continue development and gain improvements while it is selling well.

And it probably helps other battletech games if this one does well, too. I know I will want to play Mechwarrior Tactics too.

OP forgot to mention though all those Lamborghinis the 3D modelers are driving instead of fixing the netcode. *scnr*

Of course the money went to the publisher and the publisher decides how to put it best to use. Also loans, private investor's money and income from MC shop went to the publisher. Its how publishers work.

Maybe you haven't noticed but MWO ads are everywhere! I suspect a large amount has been put into marketing which is a very very good idea.
