That's because their leaders are either as Mad as a Cut Snake or Bat S**t Crazy!

Edit: I just realised you can say that about every House!

House marik is representative of most of the eastern Europe including Greece and Italy. House Davion is mostly English, Irish, and French.

We are also the only republic.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTech - Go to this web site if you want a good cliff notes of the different Houses - From reading the entries on that web site, there is no true republic in the Battletech universe. The Federated Suns - House Davion and Free Worlds League - House Marik are the closest.

Davion is a constitutional monarchy. unless the leader royally screws everyone over, they are for all intents and purposes an absolute ruler.

There is a great demotivational poster about it, but I can't seem to dig it out from the internet, so here goes:

"Free Worlds League: Proving Democracy's failure since 2271"

It seems to me that FWL is A league of free worlds, thus similar to United States of America.

I think the term is "Atlases" when it comes to Steiner

I guess no one read the first page of the link I provided. The Federated Suns - House Davion would be the closest thing to the United States of America. They are described as 'North American/West European cultural template. Though outwardly espousing the virtues of freedom and democracy, the Federated Suns is often shown to possess a strongly militaristic bent. They are frequently the protagonists in BT fiction.' From what I have read, there is no consitutionaly limited representive republic like we have in real life here in the United States.

The Free Worlds League is a cauldron of mini-states and independant worlds that produce a barely functional republic. It's a good thing our neighbors are either more interested in cash (Steiner), crazy (Liao), or playing space roman LARP (Marian Hegemony).

We love large lasers since we can't build enough PPCs, although it might be that the Kuritans are hording them all. Once they arrive we put light gauss rifles on everything. EVERYTHING!

Edit: spelling

I would switch kurita up to neutral good, steiner to neutral evil, and davion to lawful evil.

LOL. I see you've got your red white and blue glasses on. Let me know what the world looks like from your vantage point when you manage to take them off.

The FWL is a sizeable industrialist hub for the Inner Sphere, and a big exporter of arms. From a socio-political standpoint, a decent real-world comparison could be the Balkans.
