Remember Mech Assault 2? not everyone may be a fan, but conquest mode where several battles were fought over planets made it awesome.

personally I wished there were more planets it was still great to go in win a planet or 2 and come later to see that some one else had take it from your team.

I would love to see a space battle. Something with outerspace and mechs just seems so invigorating.

i guess under water warfare would be similar and interesting as well. It would slow all the mechs down so players would benifit more from smaller class mechs with more menuverability. Slowing down weapon fire as well would allow a greater chance to dodge.

Game Mode - Fastest Delivery.

Deliver VIP from one side of a map to a transport. Could tie in with Bounty Hunter mode.

Game Mode - Sudden Death,

Low Gravity on a Moon. With no atmosphere this means that as soon as the armor is depleted the mechs internals and weapons stop working. Faster movement but higher stress on the leg,hip and foot actuators.

Game Mode - Solaris

Where you can duel one on one or batlle royal style. Winner takes the most C Bills or salvage.

Game Mode - Bounty Hunter

Destroy the wanted pilots mech but try not to kill the head as he/she is worth more alive.

Game Mode - Offline Ghost Bear Ace Mode.

Fight the best in the world to practice your skills against bots.

I just discovered this thread, and honestly it is TL;DR - so I apologize in advance if any of the things I suggest here are rip-offs of previously posted ideas. With the disclaimer out of the way, here it goes:

Assault / Defend - This would be where one side has a base to defend, and the other is trying to capture it. Similar to the standard battle (I think the normal mode may even be called 'Assault' in MW:O, so a different name may be needed here) but with fixed jobs for each side. The attacker has to capture a base or wipe out all defenders, the defenders need simply to hold off the enemy long enough (or wipe them out).

Capture Resources - This would be a mode where there is one base or other sort of location that both sides are trying to capture. It would represent a struggle over a limited resource or special facility, with the battle over when one side occupies it for a sufficient length of time or is entirely eliminated.

Escort - Some sort of high value target has to be escorted from one location to another. It would need to be somewhat armored, and the defenders might need a numerical or other advantage, but this could make for some interesting things like ambushes and whatnot.

Destroy Base - This would be similar to the normal or assault/defend modes, but instead of trying to capture the opposing base the goal would be to destroy it. It could even be represented by a hardened target, like a dropship, with some defenses of its own. It could also be adjusted into a mode where there might be several targets, with the win vs loss depending on how many of the targets the attackers were able to get within a set amount of time.

Steal data - This would be most similar to a capture the flag mode, but trying to keep it within the confines of BattleTech lore. One base has some sort of data that is needed by the other team, who are trying to get it and return it to their base.

I would love to see all of these - and even more! - in MW:O eventually... but I want to make sure that each mode included in the game has some way of fitting into the BT universe. I don't want to see simply 'capture the flag' with a giant flag on top of my mech, I want everything to feel immersive and like it all fits together. I also understand that such modes will have to be added slowly, over time, as programming resources are available and ensuring that things can be balanced properly.

Although this is very different, I would like to see a Solaris 7 (Arena/one-on-one or lance-on-lance) for several reasons.
1. After the game is launched and those of us waiting for August 7 have played for a few months, there will be a significant experience deficit to any new players. They could train at a Solaris 7 "Training Mode" type of facility and not suffer damage until they choose to advance then they can hone their skills in the same type of environment until they have X number experience and can then join the regular battles. This would limit their starting costs and give them a running start.
2. Many players in MechWarrior have the "Top Gun" attitude that all they want is kills and duels. Give them their chance to do just that in a Solaris 7 format. They could gain fame and fortune as the gunslinger.
3. It would be a good place for players to settle arguments that seem can only be solved by a good Mech to Mech fight. There could even be bounties placed on characters and tournaments with prizes that could be sponsored by House and Merc units looking for good recruits.
4. Solaris 7 would also be the place to test new equipment, maps, game tweaks in a more controlled environment.
5. It would be AWESOME to crown the first ever Solaris 7 Grand Melee Champion(and any other contests that can be thought up).
6. You could even offer Pay to Play tournaments with rewards like: a clan unit, a house unit, a merc unit (From canon), etc.

I know it would take work to set up, but I think it would offer a wide variety to an already great game.

I miss the good missions on Tie Fighter. When you get 6 X-Wings, a dozen Ties and 2 2 man teams. You just respawn in the remaining mechs/craft, untils no more mechs/craft.

I like escort missions too, could be nice. Shooting incoming bombers or intercontiental missiles / Pods using reticule and Targetting computer would be nice too.

I don't see why there could not be "super mechs" like 4 legged 180 tons or something though I am not THAT fammiliar with the "cannon" so its just a suggestion considering the mention of dinosaurs... I mean, why not BIG BOSS Battle? One Friggin' big mech, 4 guys trying to kill it...

Chapter typed campaing for 4 players à la Left dead? Survival repair your mech on site hardcore campain would be nice too?

I would love to tell more. But I would need to PLAY it first... 16 nights.... counting down...

What about a Courier mode?

One team, the Delivery Team, gets a random drop point, and delivery location at the start of the round. The other team is given a strategically placed drop point near the delivery location, and would have to make some quick decisions about whether to stay and defend the delivery point, or go and attack the Delivery Team at the items location... Have 'timed' rounds with teams swapping roles at the end of each round. The mech holding the package will be impeded some how (as others have suggested, slower movement - no jump jets etc.) - scouts on the enemy team will have the ability to ID the mech carrying the package and paint it as a target for others on their team.

Variant on Courier Mode:

A random objective (tech cache etc.) is placed on the map and is shown to both teams as a map marker, with both teams spawning at opposite sides of the map. Once the objective (package) has been picked up by one of the teams, a randomly selected destination will show up as a map marker, and the team with the package has to try and get it there. If the other team manages to destroy/disable the mech with the package, they may retrieve it themselves and head to the destination - stealing the win...

Hi. Ever played Homeworld 2 Complex mod? I was wondering if a game mode or mod could, would, sould? Push the envelope of realism farther in the game. If you ever played Armored Core 4, you saw a mech lab where you could choose the model iof the engine, actuators etc.

For exemple here, we could have unique / detailed pieces. An heat sink could have many properties, or there would be a very effective coolant but it costs a lot of money, so you think twice before fushing it in action. (btw, I hope we can still flush coolant?!?). And access could be dertermined depending on what house you represent.

Lets eleaborate a little : The item can be various pieces of the mech. For instance, front lower leg plating, or knee actuator, or heatsink, coolant pump, gyro etc. They could have certain stats like : power consumption, peak load, heat generation, structural resistance, price, etc. Now for the setup: I always like the MW3 setup where you have 3 giant trucks, your mech, and you can salvage the poor sods you just legged. So giant maps, 8 players max, you have to protect your 3 giant repair units and destroy all else. You get to "harvest" the parts that have not been detroyed on other mechs as a reward too.

Elegant. Simple. Exciting.

I like it

Let us add an idea from Battlefield 3, called Rush. Defenders have infinite lives while the attackers have limited tickets to take a pair of objectives, say, 'Mech Hangars. Once those 2 OBJ's are taken, the defenders get 1 minute to retreat while the attackers are held back by an out-of-bounds sort of deal, along with attacker tickets being reset.. You go for a ways, until there are no more bases to attack. Attackers win by take out the bases before their tickets run out, and defenders win by removing the tickets.

Fair enough? Or are new ideas needed?

The problem with this is respawn. This isn't supposed to be a game where you get to respawn, and this sort of game calls for it.

God of War mode

I may get some hate from this but in the future when clans are introduced, maybe a game type that integrates the colossal class mech Ares in which each team would have 12 players on each team 1 Ares per team. Since an Ares takes three people to pilot it would require and large amount of team work in order to operate and the players who are to be its pilots are selected randomly each round and the objective of the game is for either team to disable or completely destroy the opposing teams Ares. And since the Ares is a large slow moving target but can be easily destroyed when multiple units are working together as a team. Since people are going to say they are to heavily armed I suggest a base one with just its standard loadout. Also because I sorta wanna see what it would look like when two colossal class mechs fight each other.

Here's one: Free for All. (Whoops. This one's already been suggested a lot. I should probably read the posts before I make my own.)

I was just playing MW4, and the Solaris tournaments are a blast!

Perhaps we could have some 'Class' matches with Light v. Light or Heavy v. Heavy, etc., along with some open ones. (However, for an open class free for all, I fear that the light class may be underplayed.)

Never said there shouldn't be modifications to this idea. And I posted with when BF3 was cool, before them huge patches destroyed the game.

I know that out the door this game is going to be mainly about player to player combat in big multi ton death machines, which is to AWESOME. but personally i would love it if we could see a little PVE down the road, I was thinking that you could use the Clan invasion as a way to do this, start out with maybe a series of lance missions and a company mission, the AI for the clans would have to be intense and skilled seeing as it wasn't JUST the superior tech that made the clans terrifying but their skill as pilots. That said the clans ARE the best choice for antagonists, but you could also plug in some house to house missions as well, with bonuses for house pilots of the respective house versus a mercenary pilot / group. because while nothing says fun like hulling my friends with a gauss rifle, i also want to run missions with them. Also if and when you do implement pve, please remember to put some kind of salvage system in the game, I remember playing mech commander for months and always looking forward to what kind of salvage i would get after each mission.

I have an idea for a VIP Escort with some interesting twists. Probably would work best as a competitive Merc group game mode but could work as an open game type.

The map has 1 base at either end, i'm imagining a larger than normal map for this. One mech designated as the VIP must survive & reach the other base to scan it to outright win(ie:remain standing in close proximity of the enemy base for a certain amount of time, maybe at least 45 seconds uninterrupted). As a secondary objective would be to assassinate the opposing teams VIP for a team C-bill winnings bonus.

Smack bang in the middle of the map is a radar array which begins as neutral. Whichever teams captures the tower will be at an advantage having the entire enemy teams locations shown on their maps say every 20 seconds or so

This is where the fun begins with team decisions :D Will you leave some mechs near home base to try & ambush the enemy VIP? How many will rush to try & cap the radar tower? How many mechs will stick with the VIP, or will you all stay close & try to rush your VIP to the objective enemy base?

The start of a match you would have to try & second guess the enemies gameplan to try & counter it. I can imagine alot of heated combat around the radar tower early on, then once your radar scan is up, game plans will change dramatically and you can go on the offense. After communicating with your lancemates, you could then split your teams lance up to intercept the enemy VIP, choose to hunt down small groups of enemy mechs whilst also being able to keep your VIP relatively safe.If you lose the array then you have to switch plans accordingly back to defense as you will be the ones hunted down!!
My vision of the game would play out would be that most teams would attempt to get their VIP as close to the enemy base as possible whilst trying to cap the radar array. Once the array is secured the controlling team will go on the offensive to reap the maximum c-bills for damage. Then when the time is right move in for the base cap.

Problems i can see are who wants to be VIP? They probably wont get to shoot much but if a player volunteers to be VIP will gain a substantial C-bill bonus endgame if you win and even if your team loses. If everyone wants to be VIP then it is chosen randomly from those that have volunteered. Any mechs escorting (being within a certain proximity) a VIP would gain a small c-bill bonus accordingly for time spent within that proximity over the course of the whole game. That would also be to offset people not wanting to stay and protect the VIP. More than likely i think that the VIP& escorting co will see a fair bit of action.

And when the enemy VIP reaches 1/3 distance from you base your team will receive a voice over warning "Warning, the enemy has breached the base perimeter" the first time they crossover so you will have a chance at least to change your game plan to try and counter. Its no fun if the enemy VIP is a light mech & they try to rush just for a quick win.

Even If your teams VIP has been taken out it is still possible to win by annihilating the opposing team.

Just as a last second thought to add a bit of fluff to the game type, your teams main mission is to scan your enemies base to receive blueprints of new enemy weapon tech. So if your team wins by scanning the enemy base, all members of that team will receive a weapon blueprint which in real world terms would mean a once off small discount on a randomly chosen weapon in mech bay. If anyone has played blacklight retribution they should get what i mean. In blacklight when you level up you might receive kinda like a voucher in your inbox to trial a weapon or upgrade for X amount of days. For MWO maybe the discount voucher or free use of a purchasable upgrade for X amount of days?

I reckon this is a pretty awesome idea if i do say so myself. Hope u guys think so too!!!
Even if it might be a bit flawed at the moment, with a bit of tweaking i think this could be a real winner

Survival mode.

Like they have zombies for call of duty. This would require AI for enemy bots but I thought I'd suggest anyways because it would be a fun mode for this game.

Run Like Hell.

A doomsday scenario where you need to get off the planet while stranding your opponent. You run to your dropship while trying to slow your opponents by blowing up bridges, causing landslides, or even (horror) legging a few of them. I can see where this might get dicey because the point wouldnt be to destroy the enemy mechs but to slow them down and let a natural disaster (asteroid strike, sun going supernova) destroy them for you.

Special event games.

Somebody suggested "hungry hungry hippos with Jenners" (everybody in a Jenner killing as many civilians as possible, love that idea). How about a "scorched earth" game with everybody in an Atlas. You're facing an overwhelming invasion and have to abandon a planet. You need to destroy as much material (buildings, vehicles, lumber yards, etc.) as possible before it falls into enemy hands.

How about a 24 person turkey shoot with everybody in the same random mech (everybody fighting in an Urbie, Mackie, Cicada, etc.)?
