Run Like Hell.

A doomsday scenario where you need to get off the planet while stranding your opponent. You run to your dropship while trying to slow your opponents by blowing up bridges, causing landslides, or even (horror) legging a few of them. I can see where this might get dicey because the point wouldnt be to destroy the enemy mechs but to slow them down and let a natural disaster (asteroid strike, sun going supernova) destroy them for you.

Heh. Was about to suggest a Gauntlet type mode too, on some linear map. Kind of like Evac from AvP2.

Total war game mode.

basically a sit down and slug out. on maps twice as big as the normal ones. with 2 times the playes on each team. objective based, or assault style. something that takes 40-60 min to finish if you live through it that is. this would be a great dropship gameplay style.

Clan Wars? This is in World of Tanks. I do remember a development video talking about this for about a second. Anyway it would be very very big scaled long term game where there would be a bunch of different planets or star systems or sectors whatever they choose and clans would apply to be in the clan war. Each clan would choose a landing place in a sector and from there try to claim different sectors by having clan battles. This would be just a normal team death match except with future consequence. Which ever team wins gets the sector. In order for a clan to win they would have to control 60% of the entire sector map or whatever. Of coarse each battle would be scheduled accordingly to the clans but it overall if your clan wins the clan would get rewards such as c-bills or a month of premium access.

Team A= Attacker

Team B= Defender

Team C= Target

Teams A & B start with opposition knowing where they spawn. Team C starts at a hidden location.

Team A points awarded for kills on team C no points for kills on Team B.

Team B awarded points for Kills on Team A and Points for members of Team C that survive the battle.

Team C rewarded for surviving/amount of time they survive in the battle.

Team C will have no weapons.

Battle lasts for 20 minutes, at which time teams switch positions. Total length of battle 60 minutes.

All 3 teams will have 3 lances.

Ideas? Feel free to critique this.

I wonder if they could have the programming set up already for something like "protect the siege weaponry." The scenario would be one group keeping the large stationary bombardment platforms safe until the shelling of a distant target is complete. the other team would be trying to take down the platforms by either destroying the defenders, or trying to take out the target with lrms before the get killed themselves. It's basically a timed base defense that gives target choices and a changing game timer based on how many platforms have been taken out and when.

I had another idea based on a different topic. I'd love to see 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 arena matches to decide clan, battalion and house grievances, not effecting the galaxy map. Ranking and glory for the winner? The maps could be small octagons, interesting mazes, rusting factories, or old reactor cores.

some of these game types , while they might be entertianing sound awfuly long. i don't care for the idea of having to hack my way through a bunch of mindless gun turrets while getting back stabbed by nme mechs. the deffend attack idea isn't bad but i think some peeps are going a bit over board. what about 4 vs. 8 or 6 vs. 12. deffend a destructable repair bay. smaller team has a repair or rearm station, larger team has numbers but no repair re-arm. elimination with a new twist. suitable for pub matches.

Bot test option : test your favorite mech out against bots for people who arent online. In this online community there is a problem with 'when you are able to be online'. By spending time in this 'virtual' test chamber you test out the kinks out of your mech and see when it is faulty (heat etc, to little damage output).
In the chamber you have following possibilities :
- test the mech against friends or bots (if any are offline) and choose between online players
- test a map with the mech of your choosing
- test out the possibiilties which are never online : unlimited ammo, god mode , cant be shutdown mode (no heat :))
- you can swap out loadouts in a fly without leaving the mech in the field

another mode would be a survival mode with waves

One of my favorite tabletop quick games was for everyone to throw a mechsheet into a pile and then have them randomly alotted. Meant lots of mediums, a couple of Urbies and maybe a great big Daishi that everyone shot at. Picking the mechs was almost as fun as playing them (plus a great way to play new designs).

This would be great fun here (pick one of your mechs and randomly get one back), especially if the whole vanity cockpit business comes into play. How much more satisfying would it be to gun down the guy riding in your Awesome with their Ostscout? Sure the Ostscout wo't be in the game. Dreadful thing. But you get the idea. Maybe just base designs to avoid a modified Spider that's slower than an Annihilator and doesn't have any guns...

Also, some sort of Solarus business down the line, if not off the bat, seems inevitable. Don't fight it. Canon arenas...?

Solaris Tournaments. Anyone remember the old tourneys you could get into in MW4 and I think 2? Why not have weigh class based tournaments with a C-bill buy in? The tournament play could be done a dozen different ways. Randomly provided standard mechs, pre-built mechs owned by the participants, non-mechs if the devs ever decide to make such things pilotable. The rounds could be team based, free for all, objective based in big arena maps.
Something that would be interesting is if there were special tournaments held each week or each month that the winner not only got a nice pot of c-bills but was allowed to dedicate the win to a house or a particular mercenary group increasing the faction's influence.

Sorry if this idea has already come up...
But when the clans come out how about some sort of bidding game where you could set up game lobby for Star of clanners(or any number) against more numerous IS foe?
(In any game modes already out)
This would be canon and you could get bragging rights(or some sort of achiements) for heroic wins.

So many ideas! Sweet. MW is all about the story. But...online games are about the simplicity of the match for all people. <sad face>

My favorites from this long thread are (1 life, standard time limit):

PRIZE

One base/dropship/cargoship that both teams try to capture. (King of the hill)

CONTROL

Multiple objectives (mini-bases) that have to be captured. (Dominion style)
v1: all objectives stationary, capture to own.
v2: all objectives stationarty, but can be recaptured. (Headquarters style)
v3: objectives appear randomly for a short period of time. (Headquarters style)
v4. objectives are sentry guns

CASTLE

One team defends base (kill all or defend until timer runs out), one team attacks (kill all or capture base).
v1. base capture
v2. base destruction for win

DESTROY

Both teams have objectives to destroy for the win.
v1. multiple objectives
v2. only one objective

So many great ideas, although these are conforming to standard game-play.

In the metagame, have planets that provide a faction with resources, maybe even specialist tech.

In game, the owners defend the bases. Each player has their four or more mechs (if they invest in extra bays) that spawn from the hanger.

The attackers have a dropship, once again with four or more mechs per player. The goal for the attackers is to take the base. Then they own the planet and resources. If they fail to take the base, they can still damage buildings or defenses that then need to be repaired by the owners.

When the mech pops, have the player escape launch to the hanger or dropship, just like in the original mechwarrior games (I used to love watching the escape pods launch).

]Indestructible walls? Inanimate buildings repairing themselves? Maybe I'm not reading this right, but you may be asking for a major rewriting of the physical mechanics of the game. This goes way beyond the scope of a mode. Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting concept, but I feel it will entail much more work than what the developers might be willing to do.[/size]

Why not just respawn the whole blasted contraption each time it changes hands?

I think there should be some kind of co-op pve mode in the game aswell. since this looks to be a mmo I doupt there will be a single player so I hope there will be some kind of pve mode.

mabye. a survival mode or co-op linerar missions.

and as for pvp I think there should be some kind of free for all mode like in MW4 (last man standing wins no respawns)
if it is done it should be like in mw4 with lite mech only matches and so on.

FFA - SOLARIS VII arena with leaderboards (light, med, hvy, assault, mixed)

PVE - Defend or Elminate a Clan invasion(vehicles always fun to blow up also) adjustable difficulty settings for AI would be nice

PVP - Convoy escourt

all those ideas sound perfect hope they get implemented.
althogh a convoy escourt sounds like a pve mission to me infact there were a few convoy missions in MW 4 what did you have in mind for a pvp convoy esscourt. attack and defend?

In my opinion, a mech game needs to have much action and the battlefield should be filled with mechanics.
Just take a look at League of Legends.
You are fighting with a Champion you choose and on the battlefield there are GUI's who are walking on their own.
I mean, actually tanks and aircrafts are the most important armory in the world right now and wouldn't it be realistic to add GUI's being tanks and maybe aircrafts? In the realism big mechs wouldn't be able to fight alone for sure and it costs really much to build one.
So, a PvP gamemode with added GUI's or BOTS who are fighting the other side is interesting in my opinion.

Also not to forget, a PvE gamemode is a must in the actual gameworld.
I've got much experience with other online games like Combat Arms and a few others.
If I take a look at Combat Arms, there are many PvE gamemodes right now and one of the most popular is "Fireteam".
There are various missions like surviving a zombie horde or running into a Headquarter to get some datanodes.
Those gamemodes can be implented into MW too in a different way.
Just like destroying a big Mech build from an unknown laboratory, which wants to destroy military bases or else.
