You mean "impossible to avoid and invariably fatal to anyone whose lag precludes the effective use of unguided weapons."

I've got 190 average ping, 15 average FPS, graphics set to MS paint, haven't been using guided weapons since OB. It can be done.

What everyone is missing here is that all of us old streakcatters are now running ECM Commandos with 3xSSRM2s. It's a "Halfcat?"

No, it's the tiny little metal babby man, the mech that falls apart if you flap your missile bay doors at it really hard. Can't stand even a few casual strafes with lasers, through the lagshield. It also has poor torso twist and no jump jets to boot.

You know, for months when people complained about guided missiles, their users responded with "it's fine that they're powerful, people need to spot (as in: press R, or look at the enemy, lots of effort) so it's teamwork".

How about some actual teamwork now besides counting on teammates to have a working R button: get a counter ECM, or your friends to kill the ECMech. Then fire ze missiles. No more point + click = 1000 damage. No sympathy here, sorry.

The problem is the netcode that you're talking about, not ECM. So stop whining about not being able to use your streak cats anymore.

/facepalm

Dude, the netcode is the ONLY REASON WE WERE PLAYING STREAKCATS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Now we are all going to run 3xSSRM2 Commandos; how is that an improvement?

If you have SRMcat, set the SRMs to chain fire, "spray" the area that the commando is moving through with SRMs.

Love it.

Really? I've got 90-100ms ping, and even Garth was astonished at how bad my lag is; as in, I would hit the button to fire, AND IT WOULDN'T ACTUALLY HAPPEN FOR 3 OR 4 SECONDS. How far does a Jenner move in that length of time?

Heh, I'm chewing people up with it; almost impossible to hit with lasers or ACs, I added some armor (and went FF) so those little slashes don't do much, ECM so no LRMs or streaks, SRMs are such a joke against lights that it's not even funny- OK, since I'm piloting the Commando, it's pretty funny, but it's not right.

Um, I was one of the ones in here arguing about that, and I never needed teamwork to take out a streakcat; they can't concentrate damage, they have a hard time keeping lock of you move around, they have a hard maximum range. The ONLY thing they were good for was killing lights.

Dude, did you even read the !@%$ing OP?! I AM PLAYING THE COMMANDO NOW! I AM DOING EXACTLY WHAT IT IS YOU ARE SAYING!

Well, other than playing with friends, because none of mine are willing to play the game until there is a camaign/PvE mode. Until then, I am stuck PUGing.

No, that's a convenient excuse for not learning how to shoot better. We all experience the lag shield effect. Some of us learn to compensate for it in the mean time that the netcode will be fixed.

I've lost count of the number of times I've cored a jenner or a cicada with the AC/20 that was trying to hit my rear torso circling me at full speed. GOD, that's such a good feeling to completely own jenners like that.

To be fair, I have used SSRMs in the past: In my COM-2D, which happened to be the first mech I ever got. And I didn't even use them initially, only later when I encountered the dreaded 3 SSRM2, 1 MLAS build. That weapon made me useful against other mechs, especially since I was a total noob and didn't even know about lag shooting.

That all changed when I got Hunchbacks and Atlases.

If you're RELYING on SSRMs, you have bad aim. There is no other way to say it.

LOL, go ahead, I like free kills. Also, FF does not actually give you more protection.

Well, that settles it. You win. Everything is wrong for no one but you. you are just awesome at this game, but everything else messes with that. so...I AWARD YOU THIS TROPHY IN YOUR NATIVE, ALL CAPS, LANGUAGE. IT SIGNIFIES THAT THIS GAME HATES YOU, AND ALL YOUR ARGUMENTS SHOW US THAT YOU SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING. ENJOY YOUR VICTORY!

No, it's because those are apparently the only words you read.

All of this was explained, pages ago, yet I'm still hearing, "Dude, just learn to lead," as if that helps when the target in front of me instantly jumps from one place to another on my screen.

As for skill, despite these problems and the fact that I PUG exclusively, I have a better than 50% win ratio. All of these little insults from people who don't even appear to play the game have no effect on my confidence in MY abilities.

Oh, yea, it must just be me; never mind that I can show 2xGauss hitting a Jenner in the cockpit and wind up with 0 damage for the round, it's just bad aim.

Maybe try playing this game, then come back and comment.

Yes, thank you for explaining BASIC AIMING IN EVERY FRIGGING GAME OUT THERE; I'VE NEVER TOUCHED A COMPUTER BEFORE, RIGHT?

No, I CAN SHOW A HIT, BUT GET ZERO DAMAGE. LITERALLY THE ONLY WAYS FOR ME TO KILL A JENNER ARE WITH GUIDED WEAPONS OR IF THEY STOP FOR 3 SECONDS.

Maybe you need better internet and less caps? Because I use ballistics more often than any other weapon and I kill plenty of scouts with them.

Do they teleport out of your reticule in between the time you press the button and the time the game actually decides to fire?

Codejack.

You've been playing a commando for a bit now, then, yes?

Tell us if you've had the same survivability in a commando than an A1 catapult.

With your new commando, have you been dying only to streaks (while you have your ECM equipped), or have you been dying to lasers and ballistics?

If you've been dying to lasers and ballistics and even SRMs, then this should tell you the only one having major problems with hitting IS YOU. And it's not a problem of streaks vs ECM.

Nothing; it was "magically" missing before. That's WHY I BUILT THE STREAKCAT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Ahh. This post reminds me of me.

I think you all are being extremely cruel to the OP. He most likely can't land a shot because he has not grasped the amount of leading he has to do to get a hit registered. Personally I don't see what is so funny - it reflects the horrid netcode and lag shield issues that are happening in the game right now. Some of you other posters don't think before you speak, which is not uncommon on game forums.

OP; I did the same thing you did. I ditched my UAC5 cat to jump in a streakbost. Why? Streaks hit, lag or none. UAC5's, however, were the entire reason I got excited about this game. When I found the build, I loved it to death. It was an absolute killing machine. Sad that I had to ditch that and jump in a streakboat, but I figured that if the game was this bad, along with my frame rate issues on my more than ample computer, then I'll use the lock-ons.

If you want to keep using them, you have to lead your target, a lot. I mean a lot... If you are ni a dog fight locked in a circling angle, lead mech lengths in front. It sucks, I know, but what can you do eh?

Not learning how to shoot better? Are you sick? You are sick, go see a Doctor...

Are you saying that skill also means making unrealistic compensations? If a flood light is hitting a goal kicker in the face, you remove the f**n floodlight. Not tell the player to "compensate" his blindness... Jesus - I bet you'd get your *** kicked if the game was working proper.

Dying to streaks with ECM equipped?! What game are you playing?

It takes 2 or 3 enemy mechs working together to take me down, either with another ECM mech countering my ECM (and even then, LRMs are much more dangerous), or through massed direct fire.

Yea, no; my Commando is about half as tough as my streakcat, as you would expect, but much, MUCH, MUCH harder to hit, and it is not just me. I have had as many kills in my Commando as I have had in my streakcat, mainly because almost no one can hit a 130kph light circling around them unless my ECM gets jammed.

If anything, the Commando is more powerful than the Catapult.

Bad analogy is bad. A more accurate analogy would be in basketball when the away team makes free throws fans of the home team, who are sitting roughly behind the glass backboard, start waving and fluttering stuff to distract the player. It's annoying, but if you know what you're doing, it's just that - an annoyance.

Thanks! I actually have to admit this turned out way better than expected for something kitbashed from old screenshots and 60 minutes of Paint :) . Probably my favorite now. I think it's the ECM lines and smoke puffs that really "make it", giving it a bit of retro-poster feel.

I am not wild about it, but until we get some heavy/assault Mecha that can kill them, that'a what I'm driving.
