Exciting!

...and of course you need a well coordinated team.

They are non optimized, heat heavy mechs in a game where you can shoot more often than the game they were designed for; there are no to-hit penalties; and the ranges are far shorter.
That being said, they do what they are supposed to do. In the hands of a good player, they're often as effective as (some) optimized builds.
THAT being said, they are terrible for new people who have zero understanding of heat, rates of fire, the benefits of chain over group and always-alpha, and aren't working together cohesively.
In short, they are good mechs...for the top 1% who could have killed you with an agri-mech. For most players they are terrible choices to learn in, and the variants available to rotate through are not chosen for their heat efficiency.

I'm a big fan of "all things being equal" in competitive games.

Not impressive by premade standards, and of course we have many rambo uber gamers who can wipe out whole premades on their own (or so they say), but I think Trials are fine for what they are. I learned weapon grouping, heat management and chain fire very soon!
I am not part of group, I PUG only for now (i have reasons, but will hopefully use TS soon!). But my best game I get 3 kills. With piece of poo worthless Trial Cataphract. I find Hunchback is good too. I get 1-2 kills not uncommon. (On three kill match some fancy super custom Awesome overheat near me, so I walk over and alpha his face. So maybe it really should be 2.5 kills, since stupid pilot made it easy?)
I go in 8v8 right now with ANY mech (even a Clan mech) and I will die too fast. Because you teams are all experienced. I am not. But I would not run away and disco just because I was in a trial mech.

4 man on coms versus PUGs, several of whom were in trial mechs too? Color me not impressed. From here on out, any game play videos that aren't 8 v 8 are to be mocked.

As the originator of the trial mech tournament idea, I am looking forward to it as well
As long as *everyone* is in crap mechs, it should be fun.

What exactly did they prove?
exactly what they set out to do, show that trials can be piloted effectively, and that the people complaining about them are bad pilots who don't understand game mechanics. And that's exactly what it showed.

Hope there will be a mode a team can challenge another team, even there is no reward.

Hate to break it to you but only one of them actually piloted a trial awesome.

Unless it's 8 v 8 it doesn't prove anything. You can drive a stick of rancid butter, and if you're playing against PUGs on voice coms you're going to dominate.

Really? In the video I watched, I saw 8 trial hunchbacks. Maybe I saw the wrong video.
You saw 8 trial hunchies? Really so that Founders cat bounding around in the first video was a figment of my imagination? they only took 4 trial hunchies, and even I will admit the trial hunchback is a decent mech aside from the K2 its the best trial mech so far.
Watch the second video, only one of them is piloting a trial awesome if you can't figure out how I know that I can't help you.
The fact that only one of them took the REAL noobcake oven and was bodygaurded by three customs tells me all I need to know.
This is a perfect example of whats wrong with this player base, rabid fanbois (and girls) that will lie and distort to defend a broken system.
